Florida Trip

I have had a wonderful holiday, spending quality time with my parents and husband.  My father uses his wheelchair all the time now and is only able to walk a few steps.  Travelling with the wheelchair was not as hard as I had imagined.   The airline we used were helpful in every way, providing extra assistance whenever it was needed even allowing Dad and I into the cockpit at the end of the journey.  The staff at the airports were also helpful, giving assistance where necessary and therefore making it an enjoyable experience.  America is so geared up for the disabled, with ramps into most buildings and disabled toilets everywhere.  We did have one negative experience in a restaurant but that is the ignorance of one person out of hundreds of others that we met, not worth dwelling on.

We did so much that it would take days to record everything, so for now here are some of the highlights of our trip.

As you can see, a very full holiday.  We stayed at a resort on Lake Davenport with several pools, hot tubs, bars and restaurants.  We had a lot of trips out which included Disney, Winter Park, Winter Gardens,  Old Town Kissimmee, Mount Dora where I did manage to catch up with a couple of friends for a short visit.  Food as always played an important part of our trip.  I now need a holiday to get over this holiday but it did us all good to have a break away from the mundane.

  6. Looks as though you had a fantastic time!!!!! So glad to hear that the airport staff and everyone else was helpful where your Dad needed assistance, that sort of thing makes travelling so much easier doesn't it. These days they are geared up for this sort of thing so well. I love the photo of your Dad in the Goofy hat!!! It looks as though he had a great time, and I am sure that the rest of you must have done as well. So glad that you enjoyed it!! xx

    1. It is in the indoor flea market at Renningers Mount Dora. A wonderful booth with vintage clothes and linen, a great place for a rummage. The booth opposite is a man called Vinnie who is now moving down to the street of shops, also has some amazing things ...I wish I could bring it all back.

  8. LOVE your post and pictures! You look AWESOME in that maxi dress. We are huge fans of Disney World and have been there an embarrassing dozen+ times! My brother works for Disney in Orlando, so....we have been VERY fortunate. I also loved the pics of your family. Thanks for sharing and commenting on my blog!

  9. So fun to see you looking so happy! Glad your trip went so well. Love all the pix. My dad is in a wheel chair too as is my SIL. It's is easier now that our society is set up for the disabled.

  10. What a special time with your parents. I am so happy for all of you.

My own Mom died very young, 20 years ago and my Pop 14 years ago so I am envious but happy for you.
