The Romance of Hats

Spring is here and hats years ago would have been a major part of Easter celebrations.  Everyone would have had a new Easter bonnet to show off at church, along with their new outfit.  I have been thinking about hats for awhile as I need a rather elegant one myself for my daughters wedding.  Are there any rules about hats these days?  Out came the book:
What a wonderful read, it is one of those books that you can sit and read in one sitting, or dip in and out of.  The pictures are just beautiful and capture the romance of everything to do with hats along with a witty dialogue.  It states, and I quote "Hats have the power to transport us to other times and places and personas as well as keeping us warm and making us beautiful on all the most important occasions.  In this book there are dozens to try on and dozens to inspire your next shopping trip."

It certainly does that and a whole lot more.  I was inspired to decorate some straw hats just for the fun of it to use as props in my craft room.

There is a chapter on hat pins, which are a real delight and also one on storing, for safekeeping.  A hat box a collectors piece in itself.  I have been looking for a leather hat box to sit on top of my wardrobe, but my budget doesn't extend to the ones I have fallen in love with, so for now I have a cardboard hat box covered in chintzy paper.

According to the book, rules for wearing a hat are yesterday!  Suits me, I'm thinking big is beautiful and the bigger the better!  All I can say is watch this space....

Have a wonderful Sunday.

  2. That sounds like such an interesting book, and those straw hats are lovely. I so wish I was a hat person, but unfortunately they just don't suit me :-(
Have fun choosing yours for your daughter's wedding and do share the pic with us when you find it.
    Have a happy week,
    Xx

  3. I have been wearing hats more recently. I think they are so pretty and they remind me of my granny... and they can be quite stylish.

  6. Oh, I just adore hats! I have been wearing them to tea parties and collecting them for over 20 years! In fact two years ago for our Civic women's club our keynote speaker were two hat historians! They brought over 200 hats and had them modeled for us - dating back all the way to 1700s up to modern ones, but most of them were old, hardly any new ones (why bother, we know them.)

The ladies who decorated the tables for this borrowed 15 of my pretty spring-coloured hat boxes and decorated around them in themed vignettes with the boxes as center. I was so happy to see them double used - makes me feel less guiltyf or owning so many hats and hat boxes!!

I wear hats to ladies functions, always for Easter and Christmas Mass and some weddings - not all - and I am always the only one.

I encourage you to wear hats - and feel beautiful! What a GREAT post. Thanks so much for visiting me today. I am your newest follower.

Have a blessed Holy Week. ~Michele
