Crafting

Mixed weather this week, which is such a shame after all the beautiful sunshine.  The temperatures have dropped making it feel rather cool, not conducive to wanting to get outside.  Whilst the plants have been watered and such no real work has been happening out there.

I have not idle hands I finally finished the knitted bag and stitched it up.  It is quite a nice make and so quick to knit up using such large needles.

I had some oddment Harry Potter fabric left over from other projects so I made a laundry or storage bag for our Grandson.  Once again a good use of scrap fabrics.

Just needs the tie threading through, to finish it.  I finally sorted out some oddments of fabric and made a stack of face masks.  I intend to make a few each day and give them to friends and neighbours, or whoever needs them.  It has been suggested here in Scotland that we wear a face covering for the times when we cannot meet social distance criteria, such as public transport.

I am so thankful that I found a stash of elastic in my sewing box bought prior to our move here on the Island.  A bit of a mixed assortment of widths, but they all seem to work.  I have left a gap to put in a filter if required.

The wonders of technology, we have a quiz each week with the grandchildren.   What fun that is and how they are growing up so quickly.  They take it in turns to devise the questions, so far we have had horrible histories, animals, Disney characters and little Hector this morning asked questions on Hook.  It is such a joy to see their little faces as they interact with each other.  I am so proud of them all.

To finish a beautiful sunset.  How I love watching the sun as moves across the land casting its shadows across the buildings and imagining us all looking at that very same sun.

Take care dear friends and stay safe.

See you soon.

  3. We are meeting with our grown children once a week online and playing online board games. We keep the volume on so we can razz each other as usual. I have been busy making masks for family too. I found extra elastic in my mom's sewing box this week. Stay safe.

  6. Nice laundry bags. You've given me an idea on using up some fabric I have.
I watch my grand girls for parents who work so I am thankful for that. Playground is where we take them when weather is nice. Kids are out and the sunshine is where they should be, well when we have some anyway.
    Happy Week end to you

  7. The weather has certainly become much cooler, I've put the heating back on, it's rather chilly without. We're so lucky to be able to keep in touch with family and friends with technology, it would be so hard otherwise.

  8. I like your projects of bags and masks. I know the masks will be very much appreciated by whoever receives them. I quickly used up the little bit of elastic I had in my stash and it's very difficult to find more here. I also loved reading about your families fun online. How creative the children are! I'm so grateful for the internet during these difficult days.
    Take care my dear friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. I just saw an ad for Home Depot, and that they were selling giant spools of the elastic. Not sure if it was true, but love that you are staying busy.

  13. Nice ideas. I like that knitted bag. How's that done? A few years ago I knitted a purse for my then only granddaughter. She liked it. Cute. I had a friend make a mask for me. I have one N95 mask left. Megan was given a few masks that were donated and made by Vietnamese people when she was a donation center working the other week. Orange. She gave me one. We've had sunny/cloudy weather but mid 60s. Hugs across the waves!!!

  16. I love using up scraps. Right now I am crocheting "ear savers" to use with the facemasks. I am using scraps of cotton yarn left over from making dishcloths.

  17. It's nice that you have a fabric stash for doing all those sewing projects. The quiz with your grandkids sounds fun. It's gotten cooler here, too. We had so many nice sunny warm days, it's hard to go backwards, isn't it? Stay safe and warm. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  27. It's so very thoughtful of you to make masks for others as well as for yourself. I might need to try and make one myself if it is decided we all need to wear them. X

  28. I like your laundry or storage bags, they come in very useful. Pretty fabric masks. I think they are more comfortable and less warm.

  29. The face masks look really good, I like the fabrics.

  30. You've been busy. The face masks look simple - is it just the material folded up with four overlaps and then sewn together and ear-loops on. I have such small ears the latter don't work so I would have to use back-of-the-head elastic I think. I made a prototype one hear in the week, only to have Eldest Daughter laugh and ay it looked like I'd made it out of an old pair of knickers!!

The weekly quiz with the grandchildren sounds like fun and a great way of keeping in touch . . .

  31. I've not thought about making face masks. They look quite simple to make, but I haven't got a sewing machine so that puts me off organising anything. You've been busy as usual with your makes. I'm glad that you're having fun as you connect with the grandchildren. Thank goodness for up-to-date technology that allows this to happen.

  34. Your masks look very much like mine except I did not have elastic so I used shoelaces. I bought out every store I could and they worked well. I am so glad you are in touch with your darling grandchildren. Stay safe and well.

  36. Your face masks are lovely, I've been putting my scarf over my face on the few times I've been to the supermarket, looking like a bank robber!! I have some material left over from quilting so I think I will try making some masks.

  37. lucky that you have scrap fabrics about the house. The only scrap I have is flannelette - not good for masks but perfect for kangaroo and possum pouches.

  41. Lorraine, those homemade masks are quite lovely, and who would have though a few short months ago that folks would be focused on face mask styles, patterns, etc. Life is certainly quite unpredictable and surprising. The laundry bad should be a big hit too. Sad to say a couple of unscrupulous spammers have visited; best advice is to go to Comments, mark as spam and then delete so they go away completely.
