Sunny Weather

The days are beginning to become a little samey, each day merging into the other.  No clear definition between one day and the other each, feeling the same.  So what a delight to wake this morning to sunshine.  What a difference a little sun makes.  Both Gerard and I were happy to 'don our coats and work outside today.  Gerard worked on getting the lawnmowers ready for the season and gave them a service.  They are both now ready to go.  The plants that we overwintered in the garden room are back in their positions at the front of the house.  A little addition is needed here and there to give them a little colour but they have done well.

We have made a start organising the garden room, positioning the endless trays of seeds.  We are hoping to grow a few veg and salad produce to add to the kitchen.  We added a table and chairs to the room so that we could sit down and enjoy a cup of tea.  It will be fun to enjoy afternoon tea down there.  We would like to grow a few flowers to make it pretty but food seems more important at the moment.  We are a little concerned there will be a shortage as there appears to be a lack of labour force required to pick the fruit and veg at the moment.

We like to grow herbs too, which I like to dry out and add to soups and stews during the Winter months.  The mint is prolific and is coming back with a vengeance, although once contained in a tyre it is growing around it now too.  The chives and both flat and curly parsley are now coming back too.  I love to add chives to salad and the parsley is always good with fish.

The girls are getting out and about and enjoying the freedom, they have not stopped laying all Winter and are a joy to watch.  They have been basking in the sun and run as soon as they Gerard.  They love him.

We achieved a fair amount and  it really did make a difference to be outside once again.  Bringing with it a feeling of normality.  It was nice to see villagers go by and wave.  It was cold but so nice to see the sun and so good to realise it was the same sun that the family were seeing and in fact the same sun the World over.  The isolating thoughts and feelings disappearing as the sun did its thing and worked its magic.  Long may this good weather last.

As always I do thank you for your visit to this blog and your uplifting comments.  Internet is still a little intermittent here but I do visit as often as I can.  These are strange times we are living in so take care and stay safe.

See you soon.

  1. I enjoyed seeing all of the things you are Gerard are busy with and hearing the plans for all of the good things you plan to grow. We had a beautiful day full of sunshine yesterday but today has dawned cloudy, much to Dennis' disappointment. It seems all of the beautiful, warm days are while he is at work and then rainy weekends. But that's April. Usually lots of showers and cool and then May is better.
We're well here and the days for me are much the same. They roll one into the next with not much change. Tonight we'll watch two church services on utube and tomorrow morning...two more! Tonight we'll watch the church our daughter attended in Portland, Oregon and her current church in Nebraska. Tomorrow we'll watch services at the church we were married in and our church here in Spokane. We're actually enjoying hearing all of the uplifting messages and seeing the familiar buildings and ministers is very comforting. I am looking forward to actually being with people again someday. I haven't gone anywhere except two grocery pick-ups in over a month!
Take care my friend and love to Gerard too.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. We had a bit of rain which is good. A cold day but when the sun came out, it made a difference.

  3. I know what you mean about the samey days, the garden room looks sweet. I have tried to order more flower seeds today and all the ones I wanted were out of stock? It is a bit bizarre as surely everyone doesn't suddenly want the same flower seeds as me. Oh well I have a number of things growing for now. Take care and enjoy that sun. x

  4. The temperature keeps fluctuating here but we've been blessed with many dry sunny days recently. It's good to see you're beginning to experience the same and if it continues you'll be in for a very productive growing season. X

  5. I love your set up there. Your chickens look happy and energetic. I have planted a lot of food, too. It gives me a feeling of security. The flowers are in bloom here, and it's so uplifting to the spirit to see them.

  6. We've had it cooler, with some rain, the last couple of days, but it's still good to be outside, and boy did we need the rain (didn't get enough).

Just being out of doors, walking or gardening, takes your mind off what you've just heard or seen on the news, so it has to be a positive right now. Seeing things grow is always so rewarding, especially if they make it to feeding you as well!

We had a few hiccups getting the seeds we wanted, but have some to open tomorrow (still in quarantine!) and some more hopefully in the post soon. My daughter is a lot more adventurous than me in what she grows (as long as I have various beans and a few salad veg I'm happy) so this should be an interesting year in the garden!

  7. The sun does make such a difference, doesn't it? I didn't know parsley is growing in the West of Scotland. It must be my poor gardening skills rather than the windy climate! Fingers crossed the weather stays like that for a while

  8. Monty Don says it is worth using up old seeds, as they last longer than the date on the packet. The potato bags are such good value, aren't they. Love your shed.

  9. Those chairs don't look very comfortable :-) Having said that, if I don't stop eating I will probably find them very comfortable. It's been cold but sunny here today

  10. Nothing like a day of sun and getting outdoors to brighten one's mood and seeing the girls running around the yard as well. We have had a lot of rain and a bit of snow in recent days, plus windy conditions. Going out for walks we manage not to see many people at all, less walking on city streets than in the city park.

  11. Lovely to get things done. And to wave to people going by.

Yes, veggies seem better than flowers, this year. We think we will put tomato plants in our patio pots this year, instead of flowers.

Thank you, for your comment, about our son's dog...

  12. That is a wonderful space! it is fun to think of your husband's having a fan club of chickens. He must be the one who feeds them.

  13. It's wonderful the sun is shining on your corner, Loraine. The sun has amazing qualities that make us feel better as does the fresh air. I wish I had a sunny garden to grow vegetables. Looking forward to seeing your success.

  14. Good to see your day sunny and the chickens enjoying too.
We have very cool windy days and then warmer days. Can't make up it's mind what it's gonna be. I need to set some plants out but scared too. I look forward to seeing your plants in the garden.

  15. Great idea to have a table and chairs in the garden room although I'm a little confused about the chairs. They appear to have no seats.

  16. Doesn't it feel wonderful to get out in the spring weather and get some of those long awaited tasks done? Your "girls" look very content basking out here in the sunshine. Maybe next spring after we get in our home, I can concentrate on getting some chicks...it has been something I've always wanted since I was a little girl. I pray you stay safe and healthy as we make our way through this crazy crisis!

  18. We are also enjoying sunny days. I too feel like keeping some chickens but I don't have the space.

  19. What a sense of achievement you must have had after all that sorting and organising. You'll be able to enjoy your tea in the garden room on those chilly days but still feel like you're outside.

  20. It will be beautiful your little corner, once you have decorated as you want. We have no shortage and probably won't except for flour, suddenly everybody makes his bread (me included but since at least 5 years) with a machine of course. For picking up fruits etc, the EU let come in season workers as they had before, but they are first tested of course. Probably this is not possible anymore in the UK because of the Brexit. I wish I could go out and see a museum or exhibition or a movien, something normal, but of course a part from TV and fortunately our blogs I see nothing. My husband sits behind his computer and plays cards ! Our house is sold but we can't move and I haven't seen the apartment yet life, only on video, thanks to confinement !

  21. It is lovely to see the sun, a little sunshine can work wonders to lift the spirit. We've been so fortunate to have some bright and warm days just lately and the good weather looks set to continue this coming week.

  22. Firstly I want to apologise for not visiting your blog in a while. I had neither the time not the inclination to go on my computer. We've had some sunny weather and John mowed the lawns. Getting washing out on the line has been good too. Glad to see you are keeping safe and well. Best, Jane x

  27. The sun makes such a difference doesn't it? We had snow all day here in Michigan US on Friday but it has all melted and we had some intermittent sunshine today which felt so nice. We can't get any gardening supplies or plants here as they are not considered "essential." I'm not a gardener but I do want to get some things in this year with all the uncertainty. How fun to have chickens, and so nice of them to lay for you all winter! xo Deborah

  28. Hi there, waving at you from Oregon, USA! Same sun here, too. Your chickens are so lucky to get to run around the yard, we have such bad predators here we're afraid to let them out of their fenced in yard. I love your garden shed! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  29. I think gardening is a great idea but for me it remains in theory. I can't garden without irritating my arthritis and I rely on my husband who likes to garden flowers more than vegetables. I hope we can get in something in mid May.

  31. With better weather it was a good opportunity to service your lawn mowers and do other essential jobs ready for doing more gardening. I think you are right to concentrate on growing vegetables as it's possible that there will be a shortage. You certainly have no shortage of eggs so well done to the hens and to you for looking after them during the colder days of Winter. I'm sure they were also happy to be out and about running around on the grass.

  32. I sense the same feeling of days running into each other and wrote about it in my post earlier today. Getting out into the beautiful sunshine certainly does the spirit, and the body, good. Your hens are lovely and how great that they laid all winter. Enjoy the gardening, stay safe.

  39. A GREAT SPELL CASTER (DR. EMU) THAT HELP ME BRING BACK MY EX GIRLFRIEND.
Am so happy to testify about a great spell caster that helped me when all hope was lost for me to unite with my ex-girlfriend that I love so much. I had a girlfriend that love me so much but something terrible happen to our relationship one afternoon when her friend that was always trying to get to me was trying to force me to make love to her just because she was been jealous of her friend that i was dating and on the scene my girlfriend just walk in and she thought we had something special doing together, i tried to explain things to her that her friend always do this whenever she is not with me and i always refuse her but i never told her because i did not want the both of them to be enemies to each other but she never believed me. She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR. EMU and I emailed him and he replied to me so kindly and helped me get back my lovely relationship that was already gone for two months.
