Weekend

What a mix in the weather.  It went from snow and ice to a couple of days of raining.  Raining hard with a horrible wind.  Once again the wind was howling around our little cottage so the decision was made to stay in and not go out for the Burns night.  For those that asked Burns Night is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns.  His best know work is Auld Lang Syne, so popular for new years eve.  Once again the Ferries had cancellations on Saturday although not all.  The freight ferry was OK so there will be plenty of stock in the supermarkets.

The rain fell endlessly for two days creating quite a few issues in the garden, not least the overflow of the soak away at the side of our garden.

The ground just couldn't cope with the amount of rain falling and the water very quickly started to pool.

Thankfully the wind helped and dried up the overflow of water quite quickly so once again it is dry.

Another questions asked on my last post was which pattern I used for the shawls.

I used the West Yorkshire Spinners Crochet Winter Warmers book, I am not sure if it is available on line.  The pattern is Called Bryony triangular wrap.  The two that I made were gifted to a friend and her daughter.  I used to do the craft fairs before our move but since moving haven't.  I always have enough to do for our home and family but I am not going to rule it out for the future, not yet.

I have worked on Bertie's blanket and am now starting on the border.  Honeys will be a mirror image but a different colour.

My grab and go project is going to be slippers and then I want to get going on some flowers for a wreath.

Hope that helped with all your queries.

We have woke to a rather grey and dismal day but I am going to tear myself from the stove.  Aerobics here I come...

See you soon.

  3. We've also had torrential rain and high winds over the weekend. Luckily I was working all weekend, although this means John gets stuck at home alone all day with Ginger. Best, Jane x

  9. That ground looks good and soggy. It's crazy how quickly it disappears though isn't it. I plan on crocheting some slippers and then stitching them to some cheap flipflops.

  11. Good idea to stay at home in all that bad weather, glad to hear that the large puddles disappeared quickly. The colours in your crochet work are lovely:)

  12. It is good that you are always prepared for the times when you need to rely on your stored food supplies. It almost seems there is a tug-of-war going on at this time of year when Winter and Spring are at odds as to which is in control. I missed commenting on your last post, but just want to say how much I love the shawls. The colors are so perfect for Granny's Island! :~)

  13. Very wet-we are forecast more snow tomorrow. If you want to hear my favourite Burns’ poem, then look for Sheena Wellington singing “ A man’s a man for aw that” unaccompanied at the official opening of the Scottish Parliament. It always makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time Inlisten to it. Perfection. Glad you are cosy and warm.

  15. Oh dear, all that water, glad it did eventually subside. Does this mean that the soakaway will eventually need some kind of work done to it?

Love your crochet it is gorgeous.

Stay warm and safe. How does Gerald cope with the cold up there? Does he feel better or worse than he did where you used to live. I am never sure whether it is just an old wives tale about the cold affecting the joints or whether it is true! Sometimes I feel worse in the cold weather, but wonder if it is just because you tense when you are cold.

Why have you not deleted that SPAM comment? Escorts business????????????

This kind of weird SPAM, is why I have my comments moderated. Then nothing gets published, unless I want it to.

  18. I think you were wise to hunker down and stay safe and warm in your cottage. Sounds as though you could be doing a bit more of that this week, so thank goodness you are never short of a few projects.

  31. You have had a lot of rain. We had a bit of rain over the weekend but plenty of wind. Blankets are great to work on at this time of year as they keep you warm whilst you're crocheting.

  32. The ground looks very soggy after the rain. We had a very windy weekend, then blue skies yesterday. Today back to cloudy weather, but at least it's dry. I've taken up my crocheting again, but can only do a few rows because of painful wrist bones. Love yours and the gorgeous colours.

  34. We would often have downpours that puddled up in our yard when we lived in VA. Your photos reminded me of those days, Lorraine. The blanket looks like it will be very warm and comfortable as do those future slippers.

  35. Wow that is a lot of rain. So glad the flooding subsided. That blanket is very pretty and those slippers look like they will be quite warm.

  38. I love the look of that Crochet Winter Warmers book. In Australia, I haven't seen any books by local yarn companies which are dedicated to crochet wearables. They are very knit-centric here and there is an attitude that knit is for wearing and crochet is for homewares. Their pattern books will often be all knit with only 1 or 2 crochet patterns. Very frustrating and consequently, I don't buy them as I am all about crochet (too clumsy with two sticks). Thanks for showing us the book and I hope it is listed in Ravelry so I can examine the patterns.
