Crochet Projects

We  have woken up to another grey gloomy day, grey and overcast.   Eventually turning to rain not conducive for the walk along the beach that we had planned.  Instead we have lit the stove and intend to occupy ourselves in our warm, dry and cosy little cottage.  We have jigsaws that were gifts for Christmas to get started on.  I also have three crochet projects on the go. One is a slow burner, Bertie's blanket which is not portable so perfect for a gloomy day like today.  I can work on it across my knee and keep warm.

I also have two Bryony triangular wraps on the go, using different colour combinations.  These were started on our trip away as they are great portable projects and perfect for the ferry.

I love the simplicity of the main body of the shawl so therefore perfect for travel and chatting.  However, the shawl introduces lots of new stitches, so the border I need to concentrate on a little more.  Both are close to finishing so I have started browsing patterns for my next portable project.  It is nice to have something that can be taken when we have hospital appointments or travel.  It has been a delight sorting through all the yarn my Mum gave me.  I would like to make something for myself so that I can think of her when I am wearing/using it.  Certainly a wrap springs to mind it would be like having a hug from her.

Do you like to have several projects on the go or do you stick to one project at a time?

See you soon.

  1. I work on shawls or dishcloths when traveling as they are the easiest to carry about. I usually have a couple of projects in the works... one for home and one for on the go. I'm getting geared up to start another sweater for hubby... that one will take a while!! Happy weekend!

  3. I usually have several projects on the go at one time as it stops me getting bored. I want to knit an entrelac scarf this year.. it's on my 'to do' list.

  4. my daughter has just shown me some blankets on Etsy by Jody P??? that have some scriptures on them. they are made up of small blocks which are then joined together. She's making 6 this year ready for Christmas present: my husband's will have the scripture Be still and know that I am God. Could be something nice to make for yourself with the wool your mum gave to you.

  5. Lovely projects. I always used to work on just one thing at once but that has changed over the last few years, now I have a number of things on the go at any one time, it's nice to have a choice.

  6. I usually have big and small projects on the go-yarn, fabric and paper. The low light levels are making craft work difficult but I’m thinking of casting on a shawl from a free pattern this evening.

  10. Oh.. Bertie's blanket is so nice and masculine! He will love that his whole life! I also love the shawls you're making. I'm a shawl-aholic, so it was fun to see those. AND.. I do hope you make a shawl for you from your mum's yarn, it will indeed be like a hug from her. Sweet. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  11. Those shawls and borders are wonderful. (I bet your mom would love one as a hug from you, too.) I can always appreciate a cozy day at home because I have so many myself in winter. There are days on end when I never leave the house. That said, I hope that you get your walk along the beach soon. As for projects? I have the attention span of a gnat so I have many pans in the fire.

  12. Sounds like a perfect idea, for a miserable day. Quiet things, where it is warm and comfy. :-)

'Tis hibernation time. When deep winter comes, and nature seems to hibernate, it's nice for we (who can) to hibernate too.

Not crafty, so I don't have those projects. Sometimes I read more than one book at a time, though. ,-)

  13. I'm crocheting a baby blanket for next month. I need to work as fast as my limited skills will allow. Just another simple granny square as that's as far as my skills go at the moment. Best, Jane xx

  14. The shawls you are making are lovely especially with the fancy borders.
I'm don't do handwork but I do love organizing and that's my winter project.

  15. I admire that you can keep so many projects going at one time. That's what usually throws me off and makes me lose track of the projects so they never get finished. The colors are lovely on the shawls.

  16. Really pretty! Sounds like a wonderful day to stay in and crochet. It was dark and gloomy here, but we did get out. Snow came later in the day but we were inside by then. I tend to have several projects going but different things - knitting, crochet, cardmaking, photos etc.

  19. All three crochet projects are so pretty. I seem to do better when I have several things going at once. I also like to cut out two or three bonnets and aprons before I start sewing on one. It sure sounds cozy to sit by the stove and crochet.

  20. Such pretty edging on the shawls. It’s nice to have projects to keep busy in bad weather. It rained all day here and I’ve been knitting hats for charity. If i didn’t have that to do, I’d go nuts indoors all day!

  30. It is so nice to see the WIPs after seeing them today all done. I try to work on one project at a time but usually end up with a number of them on the go... as you have said about the blanket being hard to do in low light, I have different projects just for taking with me, challenging the brain, comfort and ease etc. Large and small. Never gets boring with crochet, does it?
