Harris Tweed Toppers

I still haven't done the Christmas scrapbook, unfortunately the printer has run out of ink and I forgot to pick some up on my trip to town.  The cost of the ink when printing so many photographs is quite high, I am going to see what the costs are at the photo shop and compare prices.

My love for Harris Tweed is great, I love everything about it.  So I have had a couple of glorious afternoons working with it.  The beautiful colours take me back to some wonderful days spent on the Island of Lewis/Harris and the landscapes with all its natural beauty.  My stash of such luxurious fabric is getting low so a trip in the near future needs to be planned.
I have made a whole stack of toppers in preparation for cards, notelets and gift tags that I use throughout the year.  All ready and stored in a box for when they are required, I am determined to stay organized this year.
I have already made the gift tags needed for 3 birthday parcels at the end of the month, which I am quite pleased with.  I have even used some buttons out of my extensive collection, which grew again over Christmas with some lovely gifts.
I have also made myself a couple of bookmarks as I am keen to read a little more this year.  I did make a note in my Christmas book that these would make wonderful  gifts for family and friends, a quick and easy make perhaps with a book or magazine subscription.
Its nice to be back in my craft room after what seems an age.  I am looking forward to some more crafting adventures and keep eyeing up all the fabric that I have.  What to do with it, what to make, where to start.
I am going to spend the afternoon browsing some of my old vintage patterns and books, hopefully I will soon have a plan.  I am thinking Spring/Easter...Anyone else started to think about Spring yet?
We have just booked a lovely break to Holland with my eldest daughter and her family, something wonderful to look forward to.  As I am typing this I am thinking patchwork picnic throw, I think I had better check out the fabric stash.

See you soon.

  2. Have you thought about on-line photographic services? I've never tried them but I hear good reports

  5. I was hoping for some for Christmas but Mike looked a little lost when I asked him so I will have to order some myself. Your tags are very pretty.

  7. I love the idea of a hand made bookmark and a magazine subscription as a present. :)
I struggle with the printing costs for scrap booking too. It is cheaper to use an online printing company and get lots printed at once, but I like to vary the size of my photos, and the shape too - and I crop them to non standard sizes. I get very behind if I don't do it as I go along, but it is definitely more expensive. Decisions, decisions! Have fun. x

  8. I don't know if the comment posted I'm having pooter problems again.

I love the bookmarks, if I didn't have so many projects on the go I would be keeping my eyes peeled at the next jumble x

  10. Your fabrics are beautiful, I picked up some tweed in the sale the other week but not Harris though.
Patchwork picnic blanket sounds a very fine idea indeed.

  12. All of your tweed things are so lovely! I would never be able to cut the fabric though to make them as it looks so nice in the large pieces. I love the bookmarks, as you say, a great additional present, but a great gift on their own too! xx

  16. A patchwork picnic throw could be both a practical and pretty project. I wonder what material you will find in your stash for it :-) Meanwhile you have prepared a handy stash of gift cards and bookmarks and I hope that as you organize you will not hide them from yourself as I sometimes do when I store things in a "safe" place! I keep having to remind myself that we are just a few weeks into winter so I need to be patient when looking forward to Spring, but I have been thinking of Spring, too :-) Your trip to Holland is certainly something to look forward to!

  22. When I saw your post title I thought you were making caps (hats)!! haha. The little tags are adorable, and you're so organized to have them all ready for gifts. When we lived in England when I was in high school, my mother and grandmother were very keen on acquiring Harris tweed. It is so beautiful.
