The Sun Makes Everything Bright

My goodness how time has flown by this week.  We have had a wonderful week of great weather, not the temperatures you get down south but good for here.  We have been enjoying pottering in the garden and sitting out in the front watching the world go by.

We have kept ourselves busy pottering, doing the garden and mowing the lawns.  Enjoying the sunshine but not so much the insects.  I have several bites from who knows what that are quite itchy.  Progress is also been made in the outbuilding with a bench been constructed out of old pallets.  It will make an nice seating area in front of the building.

It needs to be sanded for a smoother finish and stained but ideal for what we want it for.  We have also made a work bench that I think is looking good.  That was also made out of pallet wood.

More masks have been made, I tend to make a couple a day.  I don't think Islanders are particularly worried about the pandemic as there have been so few cases here.  I will say that everyone is doing as advised and wearing masks is compulsory on public transport and enclosed spaces.  The pattern I used is off the internet.  There are lots of patterns and demonstrations available on Youtube I browsed them until I found an easy one to do.

Other sewing continues, a couple of bags made with Cath Kidston fabric are all ready to solve a storage issue in my bedroom.  Lavender bags were also added.

I quite enjoyed the experience of making them and they add to the ambience of the room, whilst giving a little extra storage.  The smell of the lavender is quite relaxing too.  I dried it from last years growth which was cut and simply dried in a brown bag, stalk as well.

I have mint hanging in the kitchen at the moment, already drying out ready for the Winter months.  It is nice to have a selection of herbs dried ready for the stews and soups.  As from Thursday we were allowed out for a walk, I can't tell you how wonderful that was to be able to leave the confines of the garden was a real delight.  We intend to have a walk along the beach and  enjoy our little adventures out and about once again.  We are living in strange times but for us it has made us stronger.  We have got on with it and made the best of a horrible situation.  As we go through the phases coming out of lockdown I am starting to look forward now and have started to plan seeing the family.  Not sure yet when that will be but there is light at the end of the tunnel.  The sun makes everything feel better and makes everything bright...

Hope all is well with you.  Take care and stay safe,

See you soon.

  1. I too enjoyed being legally allowed out and yes the sun helps. Envious of your skills in the sewing department. Everything looks lovely and I bet it smells lovely too. The woodwork is ace too. I am missing family lots. We had planned a big get together tomorrow as its a special day for us but not to be.

  2. We too are waiting to see family. Hope it won’t be much longer. Do you have screens or nets at your windows to keep the bugs out?

  5. Oh those itchy bug bites! I have a number of them. Seems as if that if I can just leave them alone, I'm okay. But, if I start to scratch...yikes!

So glad that you are able to go for a walk outside, Fresh air and sunshine are very good things.

  6. I like all of the items that you made. I too am still making masks. A couple of friends have now asked for them. Our son finally came to visit us this past week. We haven't seen him since February. Our daughter and her husband will be visiting next week as long as her COVID test is negative. She got poison ivy followed by an all over rash that the doctor said could be post-viral. We need to know that she is negative. She will be getting the antibody testing later in the month. She and her husband have been very, very careful about quarantining, so I doubt she is positive, but you never know. We can now dine out (outdoor seating only), get haircuts and shop at small stores, but we are still just going to the grocery and pharmacy. So glad you can finally walk outside. A change of scenery always helps my mood.

  7. I love Cath Kidson fabrics and the bags you have sewn are so lovely. Is there such a thing as too much storage whether in the bedroom or kitchen or...?
I'm happy for you that restrictions are coming off and life is getting more 'normal'.

  9. Your tables are nice! Good way to recycle pallets. I enjoyed the sun on the coast the other day. Our county has opened to phase 2. Some places still won't open due to lose of revenue as in some start park areas. Masks required when indoors as of Wed. Take care!

  10. Your bags are lovely and a great solution for more storage. My lavender is just about ready to cut for drying. I'm drinking some fresh mint tea as I read and blog this evening.
I'm glad you are now able to expand your horizons a little. Our Island has been Covid free for over a month now, with no new cases since mid-April. I hope it stays that way, but with people beginning to travel a bit more, we're sure to have some exposure to the virus. Do take care.

  11. Those first few walks after lockdown are wonderful. We saw our neighbourhood in a way we hadn't noticed before
I love the smell of lavender and intend to make a fairly large cushion filled with it later this year. I want to pop it under my pillow to see if it helps me to sleep.

  21. Good Morning Lorraine. I enjoyed seeing the projects that have kept you busy through this time of confinement. I love the pallet projects and of course your bags are always a delight to see. I also dried some of my lavender last year and have put them in some tulle in the dresser drawers. It makes everything smell so good!
How are you and Gerard feeling? I'm sure being able to get back to walking around your beloved island will make you feel much better too.
Take care and know we're keeping you in our prayers.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  22. Hi Lorraine, glad to read that you and Gerard are able to get out a bit more. That said, you have been doing quite a lot being home. The workbench and sitting bench made from pallets look very useful indeed. Some sanding, painting and comfy cushions will really finish off that bench for pleasant seating.

  23. Itchy bites are horrible aren't they. Your pallet bench is wonderful, I might just show that picture to my husband to see if I can get him inspired, I would love one out the front of our house. I also love all your bags, such pretty fabric.

  24. I took another 7 masks up to Kris this week and he really appreciates them. I will be working on some for Kurt and Harvey next. I want to have enough for each of them to have one a day with an extra one so they do not have to wash them as often.

You are doing a great job on using the pallet wood. That bench is gorgeous.

    God bless.

  27. I’m here to testify about what Dr James  did for me. I have been suffering from (GENITAL HERPES VIRUS) disease for the past 4 years and had constant pain and itching, especially in my private part. During the first year, I had faith in God that i would be cured someday. This disease started circulating all over my body and I have been taking treatment from my doctor nothing is working out, few weeks ago I came across a testimony of Pedro, on the internet testifying about a Herbalist called Dr James from West Africa, on how he cured Him from 7 years HSV 2. And He also gave the email address of this man... [drjamesherbalmix@gmail.com]..., advising anybody to contact him for help on any kind of diseases that he would be of help, so I emailed him telling him about my (HSV 2) he told me not to worry that I'm going to be cured!! Well, I never doubted him. I have faith he can cure me too,, Dr James prepared and sent me Healing Oil, Soap, roots and herbs which I took. In the first one week, I started experiencing changes all over me, after four weeks of using his Roots/ Herbs, Oil and Soap, I was totally cured. no more itching , pain on me anymore as Dr James assured me. After some time I went to my doctor to do another test. the result came out negative. So friends my advice is if you have such disease or know anyone who suffers from it or any other disease like  HPV, HBV, HIV/AIDS, ALS, HBP, CANCER,NEPHROTIC SYNDROME, etc. you can contact Dr James herbal mixed  the home of wellness direct on his.... drjamesherbalmix@gamil.com...  He is a good man,and He will help you.

She broke up with me and I tried times without numbers to make her believe me but she never believed me until one day i heard about the DR.
