We have no mobile phones as they are out and the computer signal is intermittent. Who knows how long this post will take to publish. I am also late visiting your blogs as the computer goes in and out. Patience is definitely a virtue.
Patience has become my middle name of late as we are constantly waiting for test results. I got my results from the latest CT scan and feel blessed that there has been no change with the lung nodules. What a great sense of relief that brought, I don't think we realised how much stress it caused until it was over. Another increase and change of medication, I am hopeful this will bring the angina under control and life will go back to normal whatever the new normal these days is. I am still attending the heart rehabilitation course and have lost a few pounds in weight. As you know I love to bake so it has been quite hard not to eat some of my latest creations.
A chocolate sponge was made with raspberries and fresh whipped cream when we had friends call in for afternoon tea.
At the same time a chocolate sponge was made to use as the basis for a chocolate trifle. Chocolate custard, black cherries and a little liqueur added to the sponge to make it moist.
Flaked almonds added. The trifle was then taken to a neighbours when we were invited for Sunday lunch. Mincemeat slices were made using wholemeal flour ready for a little treat during the stormy weather. I did succumb to a couple of those, they were very tasty. I made them using some mincemeat leftover from Christmas although I must admit to preferring the date slice.
Artificial lighting is making for a poor standard of photo, but you get the idea. I am hoping to get out and about with the camera once the winds have died down a little. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods. Take care.
See you soon.
I don't know how you manage to lose weight with all those lovely goodies on offer. So pleased to hear that the scan results were good, it's always nerve wracking waiting on results. We had another windy and stormy night last night but it's a little calmer this morning, though very dull.
ReplyDeleteSend CAKE! I too have had to cut down on baking as there's only me to eat it! So unless it can be frozen it doesn't get baked except for special occasions. But you had a really special occasion to celebrate and I am delighted for your good news!
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks amazing! Good thin you are far away as otherwise I should have been on your doorstep begging for a taste!!
ReplyDeleteI hope the storms have not caused too much damage where you live. Sorry to hear about your health issues...I am trying to lose weight too and it is not easy especially as you get older and your metabolism slows down...Tanks so much for taking the time to stop by!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Debbie
I just finished reading about these storms lashing the UK and good to know you are safely indoors. Also great news on the test results. And, your desserts looked wonderful and surely tasted great, as always.
ReplyDeleteStop! I want to eat them all, they look so good!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to hear that (so far) you haven't had too many problems from the storms. Long may that continue. Best of all, good to know that your CT scan result was satisfactory, fingers crossed about the medication.
Oh wow, those are so yum! Chocolate and raspberries are so good together:)
ReplyDeleteYou are really being hit by the storms this year. I hope all are safe.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, your baking has made me hungry!!
God bless.
Those storms are really hitting you hard. What weird weather we are having everywhere this winter. Your baked goods look so delicious, the perfect "pick me ups" for dark and dreary days. Congratulations on your weight loss, I struggle with that too so I know how hard it is to do. I hope you get some sunshine this week!
ReplyDeleteI should imagine, looking at the satellite photos, that you have got it in the neck with this wretched storm. We had our river over the lane at the bottom of the hill but that happen when there is heavy rain, so nothing new. I feel sorry for the folks further east in Wales - they've really copped it.
ReplyDeleteLike you I love baking - your cakes and trifle look amazing. I have a recipe for a mincemeat cake which I use up my (home made) mincemeat in.
Glad that your lung nodules are no worse and hope that the angina will respond to medication.
Great news on your scan results and relief that you’ve not been too badly affected by the current storm.
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks gorgeous . . .
You aren't faring too badly with the storms considering. What wonderful cakes you make, yum! So pleased to hear your results were good.
ReplyDeleteWhat a relief to hear from you today. You and Gerard have been in our prayers, both for your health and these wicked storms that we've been watching in the news. So glad to hear that the scans went well and the storms haven't caused terrible damage for you.
ReplyDeleteYour baking looks so delicious. I don't bake very much anymore, although I used to love it. I have difficulties standing so long because of my back and I also have weight to lose too. I used to bake for those around me but it seems everyone is on a weight-loss journey now. :-)
I hope your internet issues resolve and the weather begins to cooperate more.
Blessings,
Betsy
The weather has been truly horrendous, hasn't it, with so many people suffering in one way or another. So glad that you are ok. Pleased too that your health issues seem to be under control now...so worrying for you both.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of your desserts, MM. Yum! I need to lose weight and reduce my cholesterol so no cream for me. Take care xx
We have been very fortunate with the weather so far. I bit blowy and a small leak in the conservatory but nothing to write home about. Those lovely tea time treats are making my mouth water. x
ReplyDeleteExcellent news about the CT scan and also, congratulations on losing weight despite the delicious temptations. I always think here in Scotland we are better prepared for storms than further South. Maybe there are just fewer flood prone areas built up because fewer people live here. Maybe this is just a figment of my imagination. Fingers crossed the wind eases up a bit soon.
ReplyDeleteI could bot keep to my food plan with those lush cakes and I love trifle. Hers that yarn site.. but one of friends ordered the wool mixture for 10 balls £10 but didn't notice they were only 50g

Happy knitting and keep toasty warm. Good news about your CT scan
Living in such an exposed area it must be a relief to have made it through the recent storms unscathed. They have certainly wreaked havoc all over the country.
ReplyDeleteIt's positive news that your scan has shown no further changes and I hope you can find your new normal.
Your baking looks amazing. X
Glad you did not get more damage, from the storm.
ReplyDeleteAnd glad for your good health results.
Oh my, all those "goodies"! And having to lose weight. I'd just not be able to make them, without eating them.
Gentle hugs...

So great to hear that your scan results were encouraging. Too bad about the storms though. It seems that they just keep coming!
ReplyDeleteAll the wonderful desserts you create make me want to taste them all. You have a real talent for making special desserts. I bake a lot but unfortunately the results don't always look good
( not that my family complains. smile).
So pleased to read that your scan showed no further changes.
ReplyDeleteYour baking looks delicious …
Stay safe in Storm Dennis, it certainly seems a bad one.
All the best Jan
Hi Lorraine, I'm glad you got good news from the scan. I hope all your health issues resolve and you can get back to not having to worry about things. Your desserts made me want something yummy really bad! I'm trying to eat healthy but I sure do miss something sweet. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteHope this finds you still safe from the storm. So good that you had good news from your scan. And it is hard to bake for everyone and to not eat any of it. Your baked goods look so wonderful!
ReplyDeleteThe storm was bad here last night. It kept me awake and I could see the trees swaying on the curtains as someone had left an outdoor light on. Good to hear the news about your health worries, I do hope all will be well. Your cake and trifle look delicious and very tempting. Take care:)
ReplyDeleteI was thinking of you on your Island when the storm whistled around the house ! We personally hadn't any damages, but there were a lot in general. Two storms in such a short time, I don't feel easy when it is like that. Your cakes look delicious !
ReplyDeleteOh I am so pleased about your test results MM.
ReplyDeleteYikes....that trifle looks pretty awesome. It's a good job I don't really make trfle as nobody here likes it much and I would end up eating all myself.
The weekend has absolutely foul and very scary at times but we don't have any damage so far.
Hugs-x-
I would never be able to resist your desserts! I was wondering how you had fared in this last big blow as I was seeing pictures of the flooding in England. Maybe now the storms are over for a while — I hope so!

ReplyDeleteglad you survived the first storm. Im praying for you and your health and hope you continue to get good news!
ReplyDeleteWe'll be like Victor Hugo, when he said, "Winter is on my head, but eternal spring is in my heart."
ReplyDeleteIn the midst of stormy weather I am so glad you are safe, cozy, enjoying friends, baking and relieved by your good test results, Lorraine. xx
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the storms...the ones that are weather related and the others as well. It is hard to have patience but what else do we do other than worry ourselves silly. Waiting in test results is probably one of the most stressful situations we can be in. I am sorry to hear that you are having these health issues and along with the other storms doesn't make things any easier. Praising God there there we no changes on your CT. And that chocolate sponge with raspberries and whipped cream sounds just divine. Hugs and prayers!
ReplyDeleteOh my God! That looks and sounds amazing. The photo and your description is making my mouth water.
ReplyDeleteIt is very stressful when waiting for all kind of medical results, glad there is no change. Nowadays I don't bake because I will be most tempted to overeat what I baked.
ReplyDeleteI'm so pleased that you have weathered those dramatic storms without problems. There has been so much flooding and devastation in other parts of the UK. I'm glad to hear your CT scan showed no change. That chocolate trifle looks amazing.
