It has been a Communion weekend, with a wonderful programme of services and fellowship. The reason I have not been around. The services start on Thursday and go through to Monday. After the service Friday there is an informal fellowship, testimony and singing, with lots of home baking. Saturday is a soup and sandwich lunch. Sunday we had friends for lunch and after the evening service we enjoyed a house fellowship. It certainly has been a full weekend of joy.
It also takes time to make the food, food made with love and a delight to share with others from around the district. Quiches are a firm favourite and have become something that I make for every occasion.
A cheese and onion, a cheese and tomato and the two smaller ones are cheese,tomato, onion and red pepper.
I made a fruit cake for the tin, so that we have cake for the next few weeks and something to offer any guests.
I simply used a Christmas cake recipe and added nuts to the top as I knew it wouldn't have marzipan or icing.
A black cherry bakewell was made and the remnants of the sponge mix was spooned into cases baked and some cream cheese frosting added. The remaining pastry made some mince pies with a pecan and crumble top, they were delicious.
I now need to catch up with some chores. It was such a wonderful and refreshing weekend that will stay in my heart for many weeks to come.

It's been windy here too, though little damage apart from the greenhouse. I hope there isn't too much damage to your property and that the repairs are easy. Your weekend sounds wonderful and I was going to say your quiches look delicious but then I scrolled and saw all your baking too, yum! I don't think anyone will go hungry when they call on you.

I love the sound of your Communion weekend. It's as it should be - prayerful, enriching and with glorious companionship. And companion means someone with whom one shares bread. Wonder-ful!
ReplyDeleteIt is a blessing to experience things of The Spirit. What delicious goodies you have baked. It’s nearing breakfast time and now I am good and hungry. I am sorry about the storm and damage. May the fixes be done easily and well. With battering winds like those, you may need exterior shutters that actually close. (Some of the homes along the coast have them and I hear that they come in handy.)

ReplyDeleteIt was windy here in the night and our river at the bottom of the hill is very high. I worry for our neighbours at the Mill as the river was half-way up the steps to the mill door when Storm Callum came visiting. Hope that you aren't hit too badly by this one.
Sorry to hear about the stormy weather which is causing damage because of the strong winds. We have had wind and rain here too, but not as you must be experiencing. Your fellowship weekend must have been spiritually uplifting and sharing wholesome home made food satisfying.

Hope that the winds have calmed down by this time, Lorraine, and that you did not have any major damages. Every time I see the photos of the foods you have made, I can see the pounds coming on even if I have not tasted anything. The quiches and the fruitcake looked wonderful as did everything else. It's nice that you have such wonderful friends to gather together for good fun and camaraderie.
