What a night it was last night the winds were howling around our little cottage with speeds of up to 50mph. It was not conducive to a good nights sleep. We awoke this morning and although a little calmer, there is considerable damage that can be seen. The front and side gates are damaged and a window in the outbuilding is completely shattered. We will have a proper look and do repairs as soon as possible. Apparently another storm is due to hit later today with winds between 60 - 80mph, it has been called Storm Gareth and meteorologists have said it will be damaging and disruptive to travel. We shall see...
It has been a Communion weekend, with a wonderful programme of services and fellowship. The reason I have not been around. The services start on Thursday and go through to Monday. After the service Friday there is an informal fellowship, testimony and singing, with lots of home baking. Saturday is a soup and sandwich lunch. Sunday we had friends for lunch and after the evening service we enjoyed a house fellowship. It certainly has been a full weekend of joy.
It also takes time to make the food, food made with love and a delight to share with others from around the district. Quiches are a firm favourite and have become something that I make for every occasion.
A cheese and onion, a cheese and tomato and the two smaller ones are cheese, tomato, onion and red pepper.
I made a fruit cake for the tin, so that we have cake for the next few weeks and something to offer any guests.
I simply used a Christmas cake recipe and added nuts to the top as I knew it wouldn't have marzipan or icing.
A black cherry bakewell was made and the remnants of the sponge mix was spooned into cases baked and some cream cheese frosting added. The remaining pastry made some mince pies with a pecan and crumble top, they were delicious.
I now need to catch up with some chores. It was such a wonderful and refreshing weekend that will stay in my heart for many weeks to come.
Thank you so much for your uplifting and encouraging comments they are always appreciated. I will be around to visit your blogs as soon as I can.
See you soon.
It's been windy here too, though little damage apart from the greenhouse. I hope there isn't too much damage to your property and that the repairs are easy. Your weekend sounds wonderful and I was going to say your quiches look delicious but then I scrolled and saw all your baking too, yum! I don't think anyone will go hungry when they call on you.
ReplyDeleteNo wind here, just a beautiful sunshine and some clouds ! I hope that the weather in your island is mild now.
ReplyDeleteSo much quiches and cakes !!!! Yummy !!!!
Have a cosy day !
Anna
I love the sound of your Communion weekend. It's as it should be - prayerful, enriching and with glorious companionship. And companion means someone with whom one shares bread. Wonder-ful!
ReplyDeleteIt is a blessing to experience things of The Spirit. What delicious goodies you have baked. It’s nearing breakfast time and now I am good and hungry. I am sorry about the storm and damage. May the fixes be done easily and well. With battering winds like those, you may need exterior shutters that actually close. (Some of the homes along the coast have them and I hear that they come in handy.)
ReplyDeleteThe wind abated here for a short time, but it's picking up again. I'm sure we'll feel the effects of storm Gareth as we're also on the west coast. Lots of lovely baking, yum yum. Best, Jane x
ReplyDeleteThe weather is foul here today but we have been lucky and had no damage so far.
ReplyDeleteYour baking looks amazing....especially those quiches. I do love a nice quiche.
I hope Gareth leaves you alone.
Hugs-x-
Does sound bad with your storms hope all turns out all right. All your baking looks so good. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteOh yum, what wonderful treats in here, everything looks yum!☺
ReplyDeletePraying your cozy cottage withstands the winds of the storm.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely weekend you had with prayer and fellowship and delicious goodies. Hugs from chilly Pennsylvania!
Wow, all of your food looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteWe had the banshees screaming all night but no damage thankfully. Your baking all looks lush, I am looking at the fruit bowl and thinking, apple cake and pears in a pastry case with a frangipan topping.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the damage to your home and hoping the next round coming through will not be as bad as they say. Your church meetings sound so good and the food looks amazing...LOVE quiche! Have a blessed week and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteStorms are frightening and damaging events.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely your fellowship sounds...and how delicious the food looks!
I LOVE quiche. Everything else looks spectacular. I'm beginning to perceive that everything you do is lovely.
ReplyDeleteChurch just restores you, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteAn Instagram friend in Ireland, was bracing for an awful storm. She gets the real brunt of them, before they move on to you. :-) She was in hopes, their roof stayed on! Must check her, today.
ReplyDeleteOh how delicious your Quiches look!!!! Ohhhh mercy!!! Been reading about quiches. We are going to have one!
And your desserts look delicious tooooo!
Sorry about the damage, and hope the next storm, is less wild.
I love quiche . . . everything looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for your prayers. The prayers that are going out in our behalf are a blessing and comfort to us both.
I am blessed because I seek refuge and put my trust in the Lord. psalm 2:12
You are a dear sweet blogging friend.
Connie :)
Yum yum!
ReplyDeleteNever mind Gareth, you've been baking up a storm in your kitchen! It all looks amazing. I haven't made quiche in a while now but I'm sure it will be on the menu one evening this week. X
ReplyDeleteOh my at the mouth-watering quiches and pastries you have baked!!! How delicious they look, and how hungry they make me! :~) Hopefully Storm Gareth will not be so wild and your island will be spared further damage.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't have further damage from the next round of storms/wind. All your baking looks absolutely delicious. Would you consider adding a separate page to your blog with recipes. You make so many yummy dishes and I, for one, would love the recipes.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about the terrible storm Gareth. Hopefully you both will be spared further damage. What a lovely weekend of delicious food and fellowship. Take care.
ReplyDeletehmmmm...I'll have the ones with the sponge cake and cream cheese added please!
ReplyDeleteYour baking looks wonderful. I enjoy baking too, and will look for a recipe for that black cherry Bakewell tart when the grown up kids are home over the next week.
ReplyDeleteIt was windy here in the night and our river at the bottom of the hill is very high. I worry for our neighbours at the Mill as the river was half-way up the steps to the mill door when Storm Callum came visiting. Hope that you aren't hit too badly by this one.
Sorry to hear about the stormy weather which is causing damage because of the strong winds. We have had wind and rain here too, but not as you must be experiencing. Your fellowship weekend must have been spiritually uplifting and sharing wholesome home made food satisfying.
ReplyDeleteWow! You were busy in the kitchen and I bet it smelled wonderful in your house while you were mixing and baking! I don't like when the winds are well 'windy' because we lose power..
ReplyDeleteAll the food looks so good. Those are some stong winds! Sounds like a fun weeked of fellowship and food!
ReplyDeleteYour baking looks delicious. I hope you don't get any more damage from the storm.
ReplyDeleteI love to see your baking. It all looks SOOO good and inspires me to bake even more than I do. I especially liked that your quiches were all meat-free because that's usually what I do too.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the damage done around your cottage by the storm. I can't imagine how that wind must whip around your house!
Looking at your lovely photographs I'm feeling hungry!
ReplyDeleteYour baking looks delicious :)
The winds in many parts of the UK have been so strong.
I hope you stay safe and warm - and no more damage.
All the best Jan
Hope that the winds have calmed down by this time, Lorraine, and that you did not have any major damages. Every time I see the photos of the foods you have made, I can see the pounds coming on even if I have not tasted anything. The quiches and the fruitcake looked wonderful as did everything else. It's nice that you have such wonderful friends to gather together for good fun and camaraderie.
ReplyDeleteEverything looks so delicious!!

I am wondering if your wonderful quiches are made with the eggs from your wonderful hens? All your baked goods look delicious, you're amazing. Sorry for the broken window in your outbuilding, that will be an expensive repair. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteLots of lovely things to eat as the storm rages on outside, let's hope Gareth soon moves on.
ReplyDeleteSo far all the cak handed repairs that me and sarcastic son did are holding well despite other half shaking his head in disgust when he viewed them...lol
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence - I'm so into making quiche at the moment! Love trying different tastes and enjoy them with a huge salad.
ReplyDeleteWe had the same here up to 100 km/h ! We had nothing but a friend had half of her roof blown away and another her garden shed ! It was awful this noise around the house ! Your food picture look lovely ! I could bite in each one !
ReplyDeleteIt's blowing a hoolie here at the moment. I really must get around to baking again as that lovely display of goodies has made my mouth water and my tummy rumble.
ReplyDeleteThese days, thunderstorms can be scary and sometimes they do damage to our roofs, etc.
ReplyDeleteWow! Everything looks simply amazing and has my mouth watering. Yum!
ReplyDeleteOh no, I am so sorry to hear about the damage done to your home.
Thinking of you and sending hugs your way!
My mouth is watering, you are a wonderful baker.x
ReplyDeleteHope those winds haven't been too destructive. Your quiches and cakes look wonderful:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a busy weekend! Everything looks so delicious... I am also a big fan of quiche. It is easy to make and a hearty meal.
ReplyDeleteGood times and good food! What is better? We have had terrible winds here as well. 70 mph and tornadoes to boot. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteWow, lots of work baking. You may need a little extra sustenance in those windy conditions.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry for the storm damage, but am glad you had an amazing time of worship and fellowship...and cooking/sharing beautiful food. xx
ReplyDeleteYour Communion weekend sounds wonderful - joy, fellowship and food, just what proper church should be. I love to read about it. x
ReplyDeleteThat's a beautiful old building. The fruit cake would be very good right now!
ReplyDeleteYour baking looks amazing. You sound very happy and at peace. I'm glad things are going so well.
