Eoropie Beach

Whilst the majority of the British Isles are soaking up the sun, there is a distinct lack of sun here on the Isle of Lewis.  There has been a glimpse here and there but the majority of the past week has been sunless, overcast and rather dreary.  The temperatures are not boding well either, they are struggling to reach the dizzy heights of 16 degrees.  It is feeling more Autumnal than Summer.  None the less we still have a lot to be thankful for not least the beautiful sunsets with its dazzling glow around the outbuilding and its wondrous light across the croft.

Even in the kitchen, meals are already turning from salads to warming soups.  There now seem to be an urgency to getting the food store filled.  I pulled the beetroot, which did surprising well when you consider how many rabbits have been in and out of the garden.  I have 10 jars of pickled beetroot lining the pantry shelf.  Carrot and sweet potato soup with a cheese scone was warming for lunch today  and really enjoyable I must say.

Garnished with a little chopped parsley, fresh from the garden, they were rather delicious.

There was a little gap in the weather where the sun did shine albeit for a short time, so we took the opportunity for a short drive to the sea.  Just past Europie  park there is a path which leads to the shoreline.

There is of course sheep, enjoying the reprieve in the weather and sauntering along the machair grazing.

But the jewel for me, is the stunning white sandy beach at Eoropie.  You could be anywhere in the world, such is the beauty of the white sands and the turquoise sea.

Have you got a favourite place you like to go?

See you soon.

  1. I'm sorry you seem to be missing out on the sunshine and heat but I have been grateful for an overcast day today. The heat has been much more bearable thank goodness.

Our favourite place is Padstow in Cornwall, it always lifts our spirits with the smell of the sea. Your photos are gorgeous, MM, you do live in a wonderful part of the UK. Oh, and that soup looks so tempting :)

  4. The beach is amazing, you are so lucky to be so near to it. Quite envious of your coolness, it is way too hot here. The soup and scones look delicious. If I ever get back over the pond I want to visit your wonderful island.

  5. I have cheese scones in the freezer and I have carrots, all I need is a couple of sweet potatoes and I can make that soup.

Too bad about the cooler weather. Do you know if this is usual for your Island? I can see why warming soup would be a comfort.

I would love to sit on the rocks and watch the sea at that lovely beach.

  8. Your photos are beautiful as always. I would love to sit and have some soup with you today and those scones look wonderful. I have a weakness for bread. :-). It’s supposed to be 105F here next week. I’m ready for some cooler weather but not snow!
    Blessings,

  9. You make 16 degrees sound wonderful. We're hitting in the high 90's everyday and hoping fall will come early this year.

  13. How beautiful the beach is and your scones and soup look so tasty, even though it is still hot here there were little autumnal signs on our walk yesterday. One of my favourite 'lifts the spirits' places is Llanbedrog on the Llyn Peninsula in North Wales:)

  14. It's amazing how the weather can be so different, we're not that far apart, though I doubt this sunshine can last all that much longer now, we've had a lovely summer this year though. Those cheese scones look delicious, I may have to whip up a batch now that I've seen yours. What a beautiful beach, I wish I lived a little closer to the coast so that I could get a fix of sea air whenever I fancy.

  16. I would quite happily swap our summer for yours although I'm sure other inhabitants on the mainland would be quite annoyed about that.
I am longing for soup weather and that carrot and sweet potato soup looks so delicious.
    What an absolutely stunning beach.
    Hugs-x-

  17. Who needs a Greek island, or muggy Mablethorpe, when you have stunningly beautiful beaches like this. Oh to be in Lewis. I have just made a pot of soup from the excess courgettes(!!) cheese scones would be a brilliant accompaniment, so guess what I am doing next.

  20. Your pictures are beautiful. I envy you because we live 1,000 miles from the ocean!! Your scones look very yummy, I made fruit ones the other day and we enjoyed them with coffee in the afternoon.

  21. Beautiful scones. The soup looks so tasty and one I like. Beautiful ocean views. Not to terribly hot here. Ours has been a wet summer with some beastly hot days but not too many. Like my husband always says, "it's summer" it's supposed to be hot. I would love to have your weather and be out in it.

  24. Hi Lorraine and nice that you have cool enough weather to enjoy soup, which looked wonderful! Thanks for your comments on our recent posts about our cross country travels, which continue but was have at last reached our destination state of Oregon. The blog posts lag behind as I am trying to post in the evenings and that leaves little time for blog reading.

  25. Your carrot soup and scones look very delicious. Overcast and dreary weather makes me lazy!

  26. That bay with the white sand, rocks and bright blue sea looks stunning. I would love to live nearer to the coast. The sea air would be so invigorating. Your soup and scones look delicious! I can enjoy a bowl of home made soup any time!

  27. The scenery is so spectacular. Just being able to see that on a regular basis must compensate for some of the dismal weather. Those cheese scones (biscuits we call them) look truly delicious.

  28. Oh, the turquoise water and the white sand looks like the Caribbean! (Not that I've ever been there.) So glad the sun shines through once in awhile. I am enjoying our warm summer days - they are not oppressively warm this year. I'll also be glad when soup and scone days come again, as they soon will.

  29. I understand the desire for changing from salads to warming soups! Perhaps I'll make some soup for lunch today. Thanks for the suggestion!
I adore your favourite spot...oh what a dream it must be to sit on the beach there and take in the rocks and the sea!
My favourite place is also by water...we have a river by our house, and I like to go and sit down by it and hear it rushing by...and smelling the moss and spruce trees.

  30. Oh, look at the sheep! Yes, I love San Diego, and plan to take a day trip by train to San Clemente very soon. The stop is right at the beach. It's gorgeous. We've got a lot of sun here. Maybe I will even get in the water.
