Motor Show At Tong

Saturday dawned and was overcast and very dreary not conducive to an afternoon out planned to the Motor Show.  It was showery and quite cool and didn't really get any better as the day went on.   However, we took a chance and drove to Tong to admire the classic cars and take a stroll around the vintage lorries, motor cycles and tractors.

As you can imagine Gerard was in his element strolling around and admiring all the exhibits.

We even found a couple that would have suited the Grandchildren, along with the bouncy castles.

This old Hillman was one of my favourites, it just seemed to be so elegant.  This camper was also a firm favourite.  We chatted to the owner for quite awhile and she explained how the seats were used to form the bed and the history of the van.

It was a pleasant couple of hours, strolling and chatting to enthusiasts.

There was also models on display inside the hall.  Sadly the camera ran out of batteries as we were strolling but I managed to get a couple of photos to give you an idea.

The tractors seemed to be really popular and were surrounded by people most of the time we were there so it as quite hard to get any photos.

As you can see it was held in a beautiful setting, there was also BBQ food on sale and home baking which looked amazing.  We resisted the wonderful aromas of the food and opted for a cup of tea, saving ourselves for a meal we enjoyed cooking together later.

The sun didn't shine down on us but we didn't get any rain so we were thankful.  How was your weekend?

As always I thank you for your visits to the blog, your comments, emails and support.

See you soon.

  1. I like browsing around a motor show and seeing how the vintage vehicles have been lovingly restored or converted. Husband and son were into that sort of thing once upon a time with versatile husband doing car body repair for a living for a while. Son has a camper van and his wife did all the sewing for the interior. It looks as if your show was a big event and I'm glad it stayed dry. Our daughter is coming to stay in a week or two so I've been busy preparing for that, but before that planning for a party and surprise presents for husband's birthday.

  3. what fun! I like when the sun is behind clouds on a hot day but not on a cool day. I have been to car shows before but it's been decades since I've been to one.

  5. Nothing like a car and/or equipment show to entertain the guys. Actually, I rather like them myself. I enjoyed your wonderful photos of the show, but my favorite is the last one of the land and water.

  6. What a great day out. It's a shame the sun wasn't shining for you but at least you didn't get rained on.

  7. That looks like a fun day out. I know Dennis would have enjoyed looking at all of those trucks and cars. It seems strange to see people with jackets and coats on in your photos. We’ve had such hot weather here lately. 108°F on Friday! It’s a bit cooler today which is a nice change although the smoke has moved here from the big California fires in addition to our local wines. Thanks for taking us along with you today. Blessings, Betsy

  8. Some fine looking classic cars. My husband loves car shows. We miss his MG and want another one. Loved that car and convertible top. It took the mountains in Va. just as well as the one we have now.
Great pictures and a fun day I know you two had.

  10. What a large assortment of classic vehicles! Do they all reside on your island or were they shipped in? My husband would have been in heaven seeing them. The old classics certainly have personalities that the new cars don't have. ♥

  23. I love vintage cars , caravans , lorry's ,buses but i only like the 1950s ones , Noticed you and a few other bloggers have that Chinese comment , I marked mine as scam , I copied the text into a language translator and its something to do with a cleaning company xxx

  24. Oh what great vintage cars! Phil drove a Hillman when we were in England....but it didn't have pop up top. His was green! I got the same type of message you did as well...marked it as spam.....just as the blogger comment above. Sigh! Glad you had a good day out even though there wasn't sunshine. We have a lot of smoke still in the air and I don't go on walks with Phil...my lungs hurt if I do. Bummer...wasting away the summer. Longing for clear skies again, like we had Sat. Have a blessed week...yep we had a nice weekend too!

  26. Isn’t it amazing that if you sell a 20 year old car it’s a piece of junk; if you wait until it is fifty years old it is a valuable vintage vehicle.
