An Lanntair

As part of our routine when we have a trip into the metropolis which is Stornoway we always have a little look at the exhibition in Ann Lanntair.  I am always so impressed by how much there is available which includes art, music, films and the theatre.  I have been browsing the adult classes too which I would like to get involved with eventually.  There was an 8 week textile screen printing for beginners course that caught my eye but sadly I have missed the start date.  Another time!

The exhibition this time was by a selection of established artists and recent graduates who took part in the mentoring scheme at An Lanntair over the previous two years.  It was a scheme that paired applicants with experts who gave them guidance and support over their chosen projects.  It was an interesting exhibition but not always to my taste.  I find some of the more diverse projects difficult to understand.

This was a display cabinet filled with Gaelic Bibles, sorry about my reflection which I didn't really understand.

A vintage washing machine filled with glass bottles...not sure!

Whilst not to my taste I did understand the concept a little better.

I did enjoy the stroll around and it was certainly an exhibition that was thought provoking so well worth the visit.

The local crofters are all quite busy at the moment getting ready for the forthcoming lamb sales.  I am led to believe that it is quite the event.

Watching me, watching you.

They saw the camera and soon showed what they thought of that.

We have had some more little visitors to the cottage, causing havoc with the plants.

Finally for those asking about a blackhouse I will give you the tour around one next week when my daughter and her little family visit.

A very warm welcome to new followers I do hope you enjoy my little adventures through life.

See you soon.

  4. I'm not sure about some of that 'art' either. I guess they must have had something in mind, but I just don't get it. It's nice to have a stroll and look around. Hope you have a nice visit with your daughter and her family!

  7. Art means different things to many people, doesn't it? My Mama always said there is something for everyone. Your bunnies are darling. And you know I love your sheep--these look like the large mule sheep we saw in Northumberland. Have a happy day. ♥

  8. Some of the art is a little - challenging - shall we say, in the sense that I would have to think long and hard to work out what they are trying to say, and I'm not sure that it would be worth the effort! I hope things work out and you can get onto one of the courses some time.

  11. I don't understand many of these type of art exhibits either. Awww, cute bunnies, I know they're pests when you're trying to grow things but I can't resist them.

  12. I sometimes think about taking an art class but I really like my evenings free at home. So there lies the problem! Lovely art exhibit and it takes all kinds of art to make art.

  13. It's good to see art in all its forms even if sometimes it can be quite perplexing. Love the sheep and lovely to see rabbits, we see them very rarely around here now:)

  14. Maybe you can get on the mailing list for the classes so you can try one next session. The art show was unusual.. lol.. I personally like to see paintings, sculpture and jewelry that is made to be beautiful. Will you attend the lamb sale? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  15. Modern art often baffles me. Personal expression is fine, but it has to be able to be interpreted. A screen printing course would be something I'd like to take, too. Hopefully they will offer it again soon.
Thank you, in advance, for explaining a Black House. I look forward to it.

  16. I’m really looking forward to the black house tour. Modern Art. I very rarely understand any of it. It did look like quite the interesting exhibition though. That is a lot of rabbits. I’m sorry that they’re playing havoc with your garden. Blessings, Betsy

  17. We have not had many rabbits this year at all. So glad, they eat up everything.
I sometimes wonder with the modern art, what is really on the minds of the artist that create it. Like the washing machine?
Looking forward to the black house tour.
