Hebcelt

As we drove into Stornoway on Wednesday the bunting was waving in the breeze, and people were milling around.  Lots of people.   There was a glimpse through trees in the Castle grounds of stripes...

We had forgotten that it was festival week.  Hebcelt, Hebridean Celtic festival is a combination of the Islands natural beauty and high quality Celtic influenced music.  The bunting, the amazing shop window displays along with a wonderful array of displays made for a great afternoon out.  I was amazed to see a lady spinning outside one of the tweed shops, my heart was a flutter as I saw the incredible beauty of the wool she was spinning.  The children are always a joy as they danced in their gorgeous tweed costumes.  Pipers and smiling faces were in abundance.

In the harbour there was a German sausage stand and donuts on sale.  We were sorely tempted but decided it was not a good thing to eat prior to going into see  cardiac staff...lol!  We also popped into An Lanntair who have a lot going on this week in conjunction with the festival.

Maybe next year?

We are back in town later today as Gerard is having a heart monitor fitted to establish if the change of drugs has worked, we are ever hopeful.  We have no real plans for the weekend, the weather forecast is not looking good.  Have you any plans?

See you soon.

  1. What a surprise! Too bad that you could not partake, but next year you surely will.

  2. Those fresh hot donuts are so moreish, luckily they put so much sugar on them that I can only eat one, after I have brushed as much sugar off as possible.

  6. I remember there used to be a small dancing and singing festival/competition which was held once a year in the castle grounds - I wonder whether this much larger event has grown from that. This looks like a much more vibrant event, great fun. Perhaps next year you will be enjoying all it has to offer.

  7. How fun to have a festival like that so close to your home. The closest I have come to a castle festival was in Japan and the Cherry Blossom Festival in Aomori. I hope all went well with Gerard's monitor fitting and they will find everything is spot on.
    Blessings, Betsy

  8. Looks fun, I love German sausage, very yum! Hope Gerard's heart monitor fitting went well. They were featuring Harris on the One Show last evening so I thought of you as the scenery was so like your photos.

Hopefully the heart monitor will show positive results.

  13. I hope Gerard's consultation went well. I'm in charge of my grandson this weekend. I can't say babysitting - he's 14 and 6'2" !! He will be out with friends. I'm going to do some work on my dolls house and tidy the gardens removing all the things that have turned brown - most of them are perennials or self seeded x

  15. I hope the new regime works well for Gerard. I also hope you had a sneaky German sausage on your way back home. I do love those a lot, always a temptation at Lidl! Have a good weekend. x

  16. My husband would have planted himself right beside the German sausage and donuts.
Looks like a fun place to be.

  17. A festival like this is a happy thing to find unexpectedly. It looks like it would be lots of fun. I hope Gerard's heart monitor reveals good things. This weekend I am catching up after being away. Tomorrow we're having a picnic with two of our children and the grandchildren.

  18. What fun to run across a festival in full action and see the dancers and hear the music and all. I hope the monitor can get Gerard's heart issues straightened out!! We're just hanging out this weekend.. so far! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  19. Sounds like a fun fest to attend. Sometimes it's hard to stay away especially when there's interesting exhibits! Toady I was gone most of the day. Up early for a class in another town not far away. Home after church and work on things still waiting to be started! Hope Gerard is doing ok. Take care!

  20. The festival sounds like an enjoyable one. I love Celtic music. There's a music festival on here in one of the local parks, but it's not free and the organisers have erected high fences so all that can be seen are the colourful tall banners and the top of a big blue and white tent! I believe it's mainstream music not the loud thumping kind! So far we haven't heard anything where we live high up on a hill and we've been enjoying a quiet weekend. I hope the heart monitor is a help for Gerard.

  21. That looks like fun, especially the music. Nothing much happening this weekend for us. I'm ready for a little action!

  22. German sausage seems hardly the kind of fare one might expect at a Celtish Festival. A wee bit ‘o haggis perhaps?
