Winter Project Link Party

Another busy few days trying to cram everything in.  As the date for visiting family and our holiday draws nearer each day so does the lack of time for completing tasks.  The lists are getting longer and longer, with not a lot getting ticked off.  The mammoth task of getting gifts wrapped starts tomorrow, I am hoping that they will all fit in the car, only time will tell.  The last of the Christmas puddings are in the slow cooker steaming away, a little early but too late to make them on our return.

On looking through my lists of things to do I noticed that I had never completed or indeed ever started the crochet stocking that I wanted to make this year.  Whilst it is too late for the children for this year it would be nice to have a couple hanging off either the mantle or the bed for ourselves.  I really did enjoy sorting through the yarn and laying them next to each other and have come up with quite a nice combination of colours.  The trusty wool winder has been out and I have been winding some wonderful yarn cakes for ease.

Only a couple of squares done so far but at least a start has been made.  The project is easily transported so can be a something I take with me, if indeed it fits in the car.

My long term Winter project is to make a quilt for my Grandson Hector, all hand stitched and filled with love.  The fabrics have been chosen and the style picked out so a start will be made later today.

I am joining up with Jennifer thistlebearhome.com for the Winter Project Link Party in the hope that it will spur me on, they are both projects that have been on the list for awhile.  What are you working on at the moment?

See you soon.

  1. Those crochet stockings would make wonderful gifts too. That is something I could make during summer (portable project). Last night I was contemplating what project needed worked on the most and could not decide. My husband was getting a laugh out of that.

  4. Love the idea of crochet stockings, it made me wonder. If I used really thick yarn and suitable size needles and a normal sock pattern whether I would get something large enough. I am still sewing through the stash, this morning I sorted out the backing for the coin quilt.

  5. You always have a great project going. The Christmas stockings are darling. It must be a challenge to have to prepare for Christmas early; life on the island requires it, I am sure.

  7. I got a wool winder and swift for my birthday and I absolutely love using them, the yarn cakes they make are so tactile, aren't they? I think you're very organised getting everything sorted out well in advance so that you're able to take everything with you when you visit family. I do like that stocking pattern.

  11. When I bought a swift at a car boot sale some years ago, I then invested in a wool winder ..... there is something very satisfying about turning a skein of yarn into a neat cake, ready to use. I love your mix of fabrics for the quilt - I'm looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.

  15. I have a couple of those wool winders. They are great. Love the colours you have chosen for your stockings, they will look lovely. When are you heading off and how long will you be away for? Actually you might not want to reply to that understandably!

You are so industrious! I am supposed to be making a quilt for my son's wedding, but he just said 'just make it out of scraps' which is all well and good, but I would have liked some kind of design or pattern idea.

  18. It warms my heart to see you so busy with preparing self made gifts, here the youngsters want money and buy themselves what they want. I refuse to give an envelope at Christmas ! It's awful !

  32. I'm so envious, if you could bottle your energy and sell it you would make a fortune. Your craft projects are gorgeous, the little shopper is adorable. I like the idea of your cranberry mincemeat pies, oh and those quiches, I could just eat some of that now! Dear Mickey, taking the cushion with him, smart as well as handsome. Our two more or less have the run of downstairs. They have their own comfy beds but sleep on the furniture too. I would like to stop it but I know it would be an uphill struggle. We recently decorated our small study room and said it was going to be a “no dogs” zone, which is fine if we remember to close doors, if not Buster is in there on the sofa and resting his head on a cushion just like Mickey. I’m glad you’ve found a welcoming church, you are settling in well :-)

  34. I need to learn how to plan. I am getting plenty of inspiration from you. Mom always hung our stockings on the bed stead. Never on a fireplace. I did that with my children too.
I can't wait to see your quilt. Maybe post some pictures as you go along. You amaze me. Love your postings.
