Winter Project Link Party

Another busy few days trying to cram everything in.  As the date for visiting family and our holiday draws nearer each day so does the lack of time for completing tasks.  The lists are getting longer and longer, with not a lot getting ticked off.  The mammoth task of getting gifts wrapped starts tomorrow, I am hoping that they will all fit in the car, only time will tell.  The last of the Christmas puddings are in the slow cooker steaming away, a little early but too late to make them on our return. 

On looking through my lists of things to do I noticed that I had never completed or indeed ever started the crochet stocking that I wanted to make this year.  Whilst it is too late for the children for this year it would be nice to have a couple hanging off either the mantle or the bed for ourselves.  I really did enjoy sorting through the yarn and laying them next to each other and have come up with quite a nice combination of colours.  The trusty wool winder has been out and I have been winding some wonderful yarn cakes for ease.

Only a couple of squares done so far but at least a start has been made.  The project is easily transported so can be a something I take with me, if indeed it fits in the car.

My long term Winter project is to make a quilt for my Grandson Hector, all hand stitched and filled with love.  The fabrics have been chosen and the style picked out so a start will be made later today.

Winter Project Link Party - February

February arrived with a gusto, strong winds and severe weather predicted.  Thankfully this didn't materialise and we have been blessed with a couple of spring like days thus far.  Sadly yesterday we woke to drizzle and mist so we hunkered ourselves down in front of the stove.  The perfect Winters day...

There has been some progress on my Winter projects, there was a delay when I needed some more yarn.

 

I finally managed to get into town and purchased this beautiful yarn to add to the mix, evoking beautiful memories of the flora and fauna of the Western Islands of Scotland.  There have also been delays due to a bout of flu and for all your wonderful comments and well wishes I thank you.  It is a comfort to know that so many people care.

 

I have a vision of having several lap blankets/throws in a basket which can be used when the family visit to I am adding a zig zag throw, perfect to cover the little ones when they nap.

 

 

It is such an easy pattern and crochets up so quickly.  I have used a the yarn in a random pattern and so far I am liking the results.

 

 

I would also like to do something a little more intricate and have made a start experimenting with Granny squares.  This is a pattern that I love but sadly I don't like the reverse.

 

 

I have also finished some more face cloths, all ready for when we move.

Winter Project Link Party

I finished the crochet Minnie Mouse blanket awhile ago but wanted a bag to store it in so I have made a very simple shopper using the fabric that was used for Minnie's bow. 

 

I have embellished it with a black felt Minnie head using a pattern I made using 3 circles, simple but effective.

 

 

 

I have stitched the embellishment on using a blanket stitch and added a bow.

 

 

 

The blanket all rolled up ready to go.  I am joining Jennifer over at thistlebear for the monthly party.  Why not pop over and see what Winter projects are been done.

Winter Project Link Party

I have impressed myself this month with the amount I have got done.  The yarn I used was a beautiful Arran with 30% wool, it crochets up very quickly, so it became a very quick and easy make. 

Drum roll please for the big reveal...

 

The throw and cushion are finished, all ready to be packaged up for my youngest daughter.  I finished both the throw and the cushion with a corded edging or reverse double crochet.  It took a little of getting used to but I love the simple finish.

 

 

My crochet hook has been in overdrive as I have also finished two lap blankets for my parents, they just need the ends sewing in and then are all ready to be packaged up.

 

 

The zig zag pattern was another easy make and works up very quickly using arran yarn and a 5mm hook.  They are a lovely addition to the home at this time of year and will be well received.

Winter Project Link Party

I am once again joining Jennifer over at thistlebearhome.com/ for the Winter Project Link Party.  It is my intention this winter to crochet a mermaid tail for my Grandaughter.  A throw and cushion for my daughter and two throws for my lounge(maybe a cushion or two if there is enough yarn).

I have made a start with the mermaid tail, using a pattern from Crochet at Play Kat Goldin, the pattern is for 0 - 6 months so I am having to modify it slightly as I want it a little larger.  Time will tell how this pans out.

 

So far it is working out well using two strands of yarn together to get the correct thickness.  The photos don't show it well but there is a slight sparkle going through one yarn which makes it pop, yet retaining the lovely softness required for a baby.

 

 

It is certainly growing quickly so I don't think it will take much time to complete as long as I stay focused.

 

The problem I have is that I have more than one project on the go at anyone time.  I am also working on the throw for my daughter.

 

 

The lighting is not very good it is a lovely charcoal grey Arran yarn, so not really showing its true colour.   I have made a good start and am enjoying the process.  It certainly helps now that the temperatures have dropped slightly making it so much easier to work with larger project on your lap.
