Yarn Along

This week I have been hooking cushions using chunky wool and a 7.00mm hook.  I finished one with Cath Kidston tiny rose buttons to coordinate with a throw I had made earlier in the year for a wicker chair in my craft room.  The second one is going to be quite plain and sit behind the pink, somewhere to sink into for sheer luxury.

 

I have just finished Just one more day A Memoir by Susan Lewis and have been browsing another gardening book.  This time Growing Food by Anna Pavord , a free gift with Grow Your Own Magazine, which was a subscription gift to my husband from one of our daughters.  A gift that keeps on giving in more ways than one.  I found the planting plans really quite useful and some of the recipes are a delight.  It is certainly a book than you can dip in and out of which is what I am doing.

Easter Highlights

This year we were able to share our Easter celebrations with 2 of our daughters and their families.  It was wonderful to spend time catching up, baking and relaxing together.

These are just a few of the highlights, I think the pictures say a thousand words.

Craft Fair

The first craft fair of the season was interesting, despite excellent advertising for the event the foot fall was definitely lacking.  On a more positive note I was able to spend time and experiment with  setting up. I was also able to catch up with friends that I hadn't seen all winter so that was good.  I have had a lovely weekend with my family but I will do a full post tomorrow.

Knifty Knitter and Weave-It Unite

Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments and a very warm welcome to the new followers, I wish you could pull up a chair, share a pot of tea and a slice of cake.  Instead I will share with you another very quick and easy make.  This time magnets to display my grandchildrens art work.

It started with buying this from a thrift shop whilst on holiday in Florida.

 

I had never come across these looms before so I must admit I was rather intrigued.  It was worth the $3 paid for the novelty.  Cut a rather long and boring story short, I used natural twine (jute) and made the flower using the round loom.

 

I added a wooden tag, so that I could stencil each child's name on and using a hot glue gun glued on a clothes peg to keep all the art work together.  All it needs now is a magnet glued to the peg and it will be perfect on the fridge.

 

In a very similar vain, I thought I would share this delightful find from Renningers, Mount Dora from a couple of holidays ago.  A steal at $5 and a real pleasure to add it to my craft room collection.

It suggests using the weave-it to make dishcloths, that really made me smile.  I remember having something similar as a child but it was made from plastic.  Any ideas on age?

Yarn Along

I have had some fun this week with crochet, a really simple twist to a very simple cotton dishcloth.  I have had some cotton yarn in my stash for awhile but wasn't really keen on the colour.  Dish/wash cloths do sell well at Fairs so I thought I would use the yarn to make some.  I put a border on some and finished with either a simple shell or picot edge.

A rubber band, some raffia and google eyes and I had the perfect spring prop.  A dishcloth bunny.

A fun make but a very useful one too...I managed to make 2 out of each 100g ball.  The colour has grown on me and I do need to replace a couple of mine so welcome to my kitchen.

 

I have been browsing through a whole load of gardening books to try and get a feel for what is suitable to grow in pots/containers as I do not want to lose any of the grassed area.  We seem to now have a plan.

A plan that doesn't compromise defined areas for the dogs or the area for the grandchildren when they visit.  We also don't want to lose the vintage cottage garden feel of the patio.  So we are going to add pots to the side of the house alongside the two raised beds.  We shall see....

 

I am also reading the heart breaking memoir of Susan Lewis, Just One More Day.  A deeply moving, tragic story of her mothers battle with breast cancer and the secrets around it leading to so many misunderstandings.  I have to keep putting it down because I find it unsettling, but it is a very deep moving true account that should be read.

Spring Fair Preperation

My first Fair of the year is at the weekend so before the family all start to arrive I thought I would spend some time organizing the goodies  and have a trial run setting up the stall.  I certainly had enough stock, I couldn't fit it all on the table.  I had to tweak it here and there but in the end I was satisfied with the results and pleased with the new range of goods.

I have checked all the appropriate paperwork, receipts insurance etc everything is in order so I am ready to go.  I have stamped some lovely brown paper bags and have some new business cards ready.  I have some beautiful vintage lace/ribbon bunting all ready to adorn the table.  I have also prepared a couple of eye catching floral arrangements to set the tone for the wonderful time of year.
