Finished Quilt And A Stroll Around The Garden

No car boot treasure this week, yesterday when I normally go to the car boot sale was a wash out.  The rain lashed down and the wind was howling, it certainly didn't feel like a summer's day.  Today we are fairing a little better, we still have rain but little showers and the wind has dropped.  I spent a fair amount of time yesterday in the craft room finishing off the quilt for Wilbur and having a general sort out.

So here we have the big reveal, drum roll please...

I have just had a walk around the garden to assess any damage to plants or boundaries.  Everything is looking pretty good, no damage that I can see.  So let me take you for a quick stroll around the patio, where I have a mass of containers growing food for the table.  You can grow herbs anywhere and I love to have a variety to add to soups and salads.

 

 

Mint, a great addition to new potatoes/potato salad.

 

 

Chives, it has just flowered and looking wonderful in all its glory.  Shame about the photographer who is obviously distracted or cross eyed, at least you can see one of the flowers.

 

 

Lemon thyme, which we love with chicken is having a growth spurt.  We also have basil, rosemary and 2 varieties of parsley.

 

 

The strawberries are quite prolific this year and looking good so far.  That won't last, you may remember the guilty trio from last year (my husband and the 2 dogs) eating them. 

 

 

The gooseberry bush is bearing lots of fruit, not sure about the brown on them I need to keep an eye on that.

 

 

Believe it or not this is a dwarf apple tree grown in a pot, we are so excited that we have apples, despite the small harvest.  Just goes to show that gardening can be done on a small scale.

 

 

This is a experiment, we are growing green beans in a pot to access the yield   Slow growth so far but time will tell.

 

 

Finally we have tumbling toms, tomatoes grown in a hanging basket.  In fact we have several hanging from the shed.  We have had huge success with these in previous years.  What have you got growing in pots?

Easter Weekend

A wonderful weekend celebrating Easter with my daughter and Bertie, quality time spent catching up with each other.  Baking and chatting.

 

We also made bread and biscuits but no photo I don't know why...maybe because it was eaten so fast.  We had lost of fun teaching Bertie some new games and playing the old and familiar which he loves.

 

 

The horse had to be checked out and ridden again and again, something familiar that has been around all his life.

 

 

The soft play centre was visited on more than one occasion, even Granny had a go on the slides.

 

 

It wouldn't be a visit to Granny and Grandads without a visit to the fairground.

 

 

We managed to capture a glimpse of an owl sitting on the post at the end of the garden, which delighted us all.  We have seen him several times but never manage to get a photo.

 

 

I did manage to get a little bit of crafting done, a little work on Wilbur's quilt.  I have now assembled it using the vintage ironing board as a base.  I knew it would be useful for something.

 

 

I have, since the photo was taken pinned it all in place, I am now ready to start stitching once I have done the washing, made up fresh beds and sorted out the suitcases again.  Our trip to Holland planned so long ago is fast approaching.  We travel down to our daughters on Thursday who lives in Norwich and get the ferry from Harwich to the Hook of Holland on Friday.   Exciting times, more so as it is my birthday on Thursday as well.  Family is so precious and I value the time spent with them.  I now need to spend some time on my scrapbooks recording the wonderful things I have done , beautiful moments to treasure and reflect upon.

A Weekend Filled With Love

Time certainly flies when you are having fun.  The weekend started with some fair weather, which although didn't last long it did enable some work to be done on the bench.

 

All the struts have now been removed and the metal frame has been painted with black Hammerite.  Slow but steady progress has been made.

 

The Easter décor has been added to.

 

Daffodils are cheap and plentiful at the moment so make a beautiful display.  We had a little visitor, who came bearing gifts.

 

 

He was so excited about his nests that he had made with his Mummy.  The quilt was a huge success both Wilbur and his Mummy loved it and were thrilled with the progress made.

 

 

The top is complete and now ready to have the papers removed, some suitable backing found and the wadding bought.  I haven't enough so nothing more can be done until I have been to the shop, that is one of the problems of living in a small village.

 

 

Wilbur had great fun in the craft room, he loved using the spinning wheel as the helm on his pirate ship.  We also spent many a happy hour with the house...

 

 

The soft play area was visited twice, we strolled along the promenade for short while and had a look around the market.  The dogs were walked, stroked, fed and played with until rain stopped play, what a downpour.

 

 

A wonderful weekend, filled with love and some amazing memories to treasure.  Plenty of photos taken to be made into scrapbooks to bring sunshine to a dull day.  Wilbur felt cold so was wearing his Mummy's scarf, tender moments to record and remember.  How was your weekend?

An Unexpected Weekend

The weekend didn't turn out as planned, Lucy and her family were not able to visit and Dad wasn't too good.  I must admit to feeling a little overwhelmed. It is amazing what a little bit of gardening, particularly when it is cold, some crafting and a good nights sleep can do.   I have got up this morning feeling a whole lot better and ready to start the day, whatever it throws at me.

Our house, particularly the kitchen and dining room have been taken over with pots and seed trays.

 

We have planted, broad beans, green beans, tomatoes and sweet peppers so far.  That will be added to later today.

 

 

Summer bulbs have been added to some of the pots to make a little cottage style garden at one end of the patio.

 

We also went to a small car boot sale, the first of the season at Addlethorpe.  It was nice to have a stroll around and browse, although we did come home empty handed.  Maybe next time...

 

I have started to decorate for the season with a little touch here and there...

 

 

I have decorated a little  tree, the rest I will leave for the children.

 

 

There has to be some little packages for visitors...

 

Progress on Wilbur's quilt is slow but steady.
