Car Boot Treasure...And The Big Reveal

As is usual for a Saturday we went for a stroll around the car boot sale at Stickney, it was a little gloomy and predicting rain so we had very low expectations.  We were pleasantly surprised at the amount of stalls but a little disappointed at the quality of the goods on offer.  It was nice to have a stroll and always good to have a chat with Mum as we were going around.  We always get lucky with the vegetables and this week was no exception.

Leeks, green beans and a cauliflower for the grand total of £1, I was impressed.  I have chopped the leeks up and popped them into the freezer for soups/stews.

2 bunches of rhubarb for £1 a bunch all chopped, cooked and in the freezer ready for those Autumn days when only a pie or crumble will do.

I also got lucky with some great stamps, perfect timing for some.

I paid 50p per pack, there was an original price on one packet £5.25.  A bargain indeed.

I bought all the smaller packets at 10p per pack.  I am certainly going to have some fun using these.

I made a list for the Winter Link Up Party for things I wanted to achieve over the coming months and started to crochet a mermaid tail for my sweet Grandaughter.  It really did crochet up fast and much to my amazement I finished it in a couple of days.  They are visiting next weekend so I think that may have spurred me on a little.

Drum roll please...Are you ready for the big reveal?

I can't wait to see what she looks like in it.  It certainly was a lot easier than I anticipated.

See you soon.

My Wonderful Week

My sincere thanks for all your wonderful comments they were so uplifting to read.  The Christening was a wonderful day that brought our family together for  a beautiful celebration in such a stunning setting.  It was such a shame that my parents were unable to travel but we did send back photos straightaway so that they felt like they were included.  I feel blessed that they were able to enjoy their Great Grandchildren this week, we kept popping in and out so they could enjoy some of their antics.  They love to run riot in Big Grandad's garden and hide behind the shed the three dogs running wild with them.  We have such a good week of fun and laughter, the children certainly kept me busy.  It seems really quiet now that they have all gone but Lucy and the girls are heading here again on Tuesday so for now I am getting on top of the laundry and some cleaning.  I had a stroll out this morning around the car boot sale at Stickney and picked up some additions for the kitchen.

A pie dish which is always useful for 20p and a quiche dish for 20p also.

I had hoped to get some outdoor toys for the children but there was nothing available, I suppose everyone is looking for them.

Some of the highlights of the week were everyday events but ones that were so special because two sisters were together sharing motherhood, it was joy to see the cousins enjoying each others company.

I just couldn't get enough of these two, they are growing up so quickly.  That dining table has seen all three of my daughters grow up around it, I bet it could tell a few stories.

We did some baking on it...

Oops!  Granny forgot the aprons.

That poor table also saw a lot of paint and glue this week too...

As you see we did most of our projects in the morning before getting dressed and then headed down to the beach.  We were certainly blessed with the weather, it was such a glorious week of sunshine.  We even braved the water and ate sandwiches in the park.  A glorious week that will bring back some treasured memories for many days to come.

See you soon.

Treasure

Thank you for all your comments on my last post, amazing how like minded we all are about craft room paraphernalia.  My dear husband is not doing too well at the moment his rheumatoid arthritis has flared up once again and walking is difficult.  His arms and hands have swollen this time round too making the slightest task difficult.  Rest is the answer at the moment, so our weekend was spent quietly catching up with some films that we had recorded and enjoying some good food.

I did have a  quick stroll around the local car boot sale Saturday and was so glad that I did as I found the perfect match for a china set that I had bought a couple of weeks ago.  To say that I was thrilled is an understatement.

It was dirty unwanted and in dire need of some attention, I bought it straight home and gave it a good wash and a new home.   50p was not a lot to give, I went straight into the craft room and immediately made a hot pad for it.

Already to go, once again someone's rubbish has become a treasure.  I also managed to pick up some skittles for when the children visit.

A bargain for £1.  Two punches were also purchased for 20p each.

Finally some Christmas stamps for 50p.

We are spending another quiet day today so I have caught up with the laundry and we intend to catch up with a little reading.  Before I go I thought I would take you on a tour of the garden.  I love this time of year when there is so much colour.

The marigolds are looking amazing, we are thrilled with them as we grew them from seed.  We use them as  a deterrent for pests and co plant them with tomatoes.  It really does seem to work.

The lilies are just starting to bloom, they always make us a smile as they were a gift from our eldest daughter.  We can see them as we look out of the dining room window, so as we look out we always think of her.

The daisy is such a treat and reliably comes back each year.

The flowers on the chives are just coming to the end but they have been a real delight adding a beautiful shade of lilac to the patio.

We have several pots of lavender, the scent is amazing adding another dimension to the senses especially after the rain.

We have the odd pot of poppies here and there that seem to have self seeded into other pots.  Weeds seem to have taken over in a couple of the pots too, they definitely need some attention.  We certainly are blessed with the treasure that Mother Nature provides.  What treasure is growing in your garden?

See you soon.

A Magical Weekend

We awoke to a bright sunny day on Saturday so had a stroll around the car boot sale at Stickney.  Quite a large car boot sale which was a delight to walk around.  A wide and varied sale of unwanted items.  Despite the wide variety there was not a lot that appealed other than the fresh vegetables, which always taste so much better than bought from the supermarket.  Local and seasonal so a low carbon footprint which is a bonus.

I did find some beautiful vintage table cloths that were quite the bargain.

I bought three at 50p each and washed them as soon as I got home, they had a musty smell about them which I don't like.  They have come up a treat and will adorn my dining table as soon as they are dry and ironed.

Daffodils were also bought for 50p, a variety that I had not come across before and really pretty.

Sunday was a wonderful day spent with some little visitors.  Wilbur had decorated me a beautiful storage pot which we filled with buttons.  We had fun sorting them into size and colour.  I am hoping that he will have fond memories later in life of these precious moments.

Grandad also had some fun teaching the dog some tricks...boys!

Hector is really coming along, he is smiling and cooing and his face lights up when he see you.

A really great day, lots of fun, laughter and smiles.

Where are you Wilbur?????  Granny can't find you...

I wonder where Wilbur has gone???

Hope you had as much fun as I did this weekend.

See you soon.

Weekend Visit and Car Boot Treasure

What a wonderful weekend I have just had, spending quality time with my eldest daughter and her little family.  She came bearing gifts which was a real thrill, a vintage typewriter to add to the craft room.  She runs her own business from home www.littlecopywritinghouse.co.uk and has recently redesigned her office space giving it a more up to date image I have always admired this stunning little piece and so it is now mine.

I will now have to redesign my room to accommodate it, what a treasure.

We had a lovely walk strolling around the car boot sale at Stickney, chatting and laughing our way around.  Wilbur was such a good boy, clutching his pennies looking for the perfect treasure.

I certainly was very lucky and managed quite the haul, a candlemaking kit including book for £1.

I thought it was something that I would try during the winter months when I don't get out and about as much, a taster before I spend a lot of money on a pastime/hobby that I may not enjoy.

I also managed to get two old box sets of LPs which I was thrilled with, each set held eight records for £2 for both.

The LP sleeves were a real delight, stunning.

What was quite amazing I was familiar with all of the songs and artists, I really am getting older.

For the bargain price of 10p I also secured a stencil set, whilst I wasn't too keen on the stencil I did think the paints and the brush would be useful.

It really was a good quality brush so well worth the 10p spent.  Another 10p brought a book.

I have a dolls house that I want to "do up" and have spent some time exploring the different possibilities, so a great book to browse.  10p seemed to be the popular price this week, as I also bought for 10p some vintage blocks for the nursery.

Wilbur managed to get some books and a game, which we had fun playing.  We also had fun with bubbles.

...and of course some rough and tumble with Grandad and the inevitable visit to the soft play.  The soft play centre is like a ritual, a visit to Granny and Grandad's means a visit to the beach, the park, soft play and ice cream.

A wonderful weekend, making some wonderful memories to treasure and reflect upon.  A weekend looking for treasure, bargain hunting.  How was your weekend, did you manage to hit the jackpot and bring some treasure home?

See you soon.
