Iolaire Exhibition

We have had so many trips across the moor with hospital appointments that last week we decided to combine an appointment with leisure.  We drove up to the castle and had a stroll around the museum.  The bonus was we were also able to see the Iolaire exhibition as well.

I have mentioned this in an earlier post.  As it is coming up to its 100 year anniversary it is uppermost once again in peoples minds.  Most families were affected by loss either by the War or this Maritime disaster.

The Iolaire whose sinking on 1 January 1919 in the Minch was one of the worst maritime disasters in the United Kingdom waters during the 20th Century.  Of the 280 aboard only  79 survived yards from the shore.

So sad to survive World War 1 and then perish two months after its end.

We gave ourselves a treat and had a meal whilst we were out at the Castle, a beautiful venue.  The portions were a little large but very enjoyable.

The decluttering has begun in earnest with several blacks bags already for the Charity shop.  My wardrobe needed a good sort out and has been on the To Do list for some time.  It was a lovely feeling to be able to tick that job off, in the short term anyway.  I have still got the footwear to sort through but tomorrow is another day.

We were without electricity all morning, it was off all over the Island apparently which is unusual.  We were certainly thankful for the multi fuel stove.
