This And That

I have taken to doing a little crochet in the evening once again.  There is nothing that I want or need to really concentrate on the TV, if we bother having it on at all.  So it is nice to have a crochet project on the go once again.  I am making some wash cloths for the gift drawer.  They are such a wonderful token gift partnered with some homemade soap.  I will be making a small batch soon to top off what I have.

I have added a couple of project bags to the gift cupboard, all ready for friends that enjoy crafting when I need a little gift.

I love the fabric and the addition of lace, made with love and perfect to hold a knitting/sewing/crochet project together.  Work also continues on adding to the Christmas drawer this time I have made a few lavender bags to use as gift toppers.

Once again made with love and smelling beautiful.  Finally another Harris tweed bag completed all ready to be gifted.  I intend to use it as a gift bag filled with treats for my parents.  I can share that as I know that they don't read this blog.  They are both doing well, my niece is doing a great job looking after them along with a care team.  Some of you may remember that they were going to move up to the Island along with us and changed their mind at the last moment.  It was heart breaking but too late for us to change our minds, all the contracts and such had been signed.

We have woken to a day of better weather so I am hopeful that we will make it down to the beach today.  I am so looking forward to it.  It seems like an age since we were last there.  I will of course take the camera along with me so I can share our little adventure with you.

Hope all is well with you.  Take care and stay safe in these very strange times.  As always I thank you for your visit here and your uplifting comments.  Yes, I do make the lemon meringue pie from scratch Teresa I like to have a good bake at least once a week.  I like to have goodies in the tin for visitors, although at the moment we are not having any.  Hopefully, this will change as we are emerging out of shielding as time goes by.  Another 12 masks added to the pile as they are now compulsory on public transport which includes Ferries.  They are opening again soon on a Winter timetable.  I am sure this will make a big difference to a lot of business's as normal freight will resume instead of the lifeline services we have had since March.

Crafting Update

The Bank holiday weekend came and went with very little in fact no difference made to us at all.  It was so unusual not to see tourists, particularly campers and cyclists go past our little cottage on route to the Port or lighthouse.  It will be interesting to see the effects on the Island once the ferry routes have been re-opened, time will tell! (Laura I actually live on the Isle of Lewis which is an Island off the West Coast of Scotland).

I have continued on my little journey of crafting to pass away the time.  I have made a draw string bag to house the playmat and toys and added a bear.  I came across this pattern and couldn't resist.

It is in the book Sweet & Simple handmade by Melissa Wastney which shows 25 projects to sew, stitch, knit and recycle for children.  It is a book that has been worth every penny as it has been used so many times.

Thank you for all your lovely comments on the playmat and toys it was a delight to read through them.  The teething rings are wooden craft rings bought from etsy I had some left over from a previous project.  I had made mini wreaths last Christmas and did a demonstration on how to make them at our ladies Church group.  The fabric was cotton and literally rounded at the ends to make it look a little like rabbit ears.  Hope that helps.

We are hopeful that we will be able to get together with family at Christmas and are already starting to think about it.  It gives us something to look forward to so baking with Granny is on top of the agenda.  I came across this amazing pattern...

...perfect for our youngest Grandaughter and her dolly.  I must admit the frills were a little bit of a faff but the instructions were very clear and easy to follow.  Already for our baking session.

Perfect and fit for the little Princess that she is.

I have added a Harris Tweed bag to the gift drawer and a couple of needle cases.  They are the perfect gift to pop into an envelope.

We are plodding along and look forward to hearing the First Minsters announcement on how things will start to open after lockdown.  It has been a strange journey for Gerard and I as in so many ways nothing has changed.  We do feel blessed and are thankful.  Take care dear friends and stay safe.

Busy, Busy, Busy

Another day, another project!  I created a little bag to go with Honey's ensemble and yes you were right there are a couple of little treasures from Granny inside.  We don't see them very often so they deserve to be spoilt.

I covered a button with the lining fabric so that it all matched well.  I was quite pleased with the overall look of it.  The lining really does make it so girly with those tiny ditty flowers, she will love it.

I also made a start on replenishing the gift cupboard, using some of the soap I made.  I then added a lavender bag, so quick and simple to make.

I crocheted a wash cloth and then added a Harris Tweed brooch.

I have a stack of Cath Kidston fabric that needs using so I decided to make some bags for the gift cupboard to use it up.

Some red checked fabric made for the perfect lining , even a pocket was added.  One very quickly became two.

Spring has certainly arrived despite the rain and windy weather we are experiencing but taking photographs indoors is still an issue, which is why I am taking photographs on the window ledge.  The days are getting longer but we are yet to get any bright sunny days that I am so looking forward to.  The spring/Easter decorations have been found but I have yet to make a start so that is my plan for tomorrow.  Have you any plans for the weekend?  For those of us in the UK don't forget the clocks change this weekend.
