Wedding Anniversary Celebrations

Gerard and I celebrated our wedding anniversary yesterday, 39 years of happy marriage.  We have had our differences over the years and we have both had to work hard at our marriage but fundamentally we have a strong marriage and for that I am truly thankful.  We exchanged cards and gifts and then I cooked us a steak dinner last night which we had with a glass of wine.  Very simple but satisfying.

This is the leather bound notebook that Gerard chose for me, I LOVE IT.

For My Wife

_______Never Forget That________

I Love You

If I could give you one thing in life

I would give you the ability to see

Yourself through my eyes

Only then would you realize

How special you are to me.

We spent some quality time together looking at our wedding photos and reminiscing about some of the family holidays we have had and places we have seen.  It was lovely to think back on Christmas's past and the wonderful experiences we have been able to give to our children and grandchildren.  Some of the simplest things have been the best.  This pandemic is changing life as we know it and with this in mind it could just be that we look at changing some of our traditions and expectations of the holiday season.  Paring back doesn't necessarily mean not good.  Putting Christ back into Christmas can only be a good thing and whilst I will still decorate with some of my treasures and enjoy the season.  Outings will be at a minimum as will visitors to our little cottage.  We will  fill the season with lots of other feel good things in different ways.  Doorstep visits with a token gift for friends and neighbours.  Extra food bank donations.  Hats for the homeless.

We have no definite plans as yet, life is full of uncertainty due to the pandemic.  But, one thing is certain our hearts will be full of love for the family and friends that we have and the love that Gerard and I share for each other.  We will celebrate Christmas in some form and be thankful for it.

Have you made any plans yet?

Take care and stay safe.

See you soon.

  1. Happy 🥂Anniversary to you both and wishes for a wonderful year ahead despite the current state of the world. We all have to adjust and make happiness where we can which for us, like yourselves, is at home. Gerard’s gift was lovely as were the words he selected. Every couple has their ups and downs that’s for sure. It’s how we deal with them that makes life all the more interesting and worthwhile. You both seem to handle those times well. Congratulations on #39.💐

  5. Happy Anniversary - and what a lovely gift!

I think it best that we all accept that Christmas will be different this year and adjust our mindset. Slowing down and refocusing is not necessarily a bad thing. I will spend the day with the other singleton friend in my bubble as all my family live at least 2 hours away and none of us want to break the Pandemic protocols. I will send cards and maybe a few gift cards. I normally throw a big Christmas party for friends and often host a couple of smaller events but I'm hoping for a "Christmas in July" next year.
I will make some donations, listen to some lovely music, watch some Christmas films and stay in touch with family and friends as best I can. I also look forward to reading your posts and seeing the photos of all your lovely crafts!

  7. Many congratulations to you both and what a wonderful gift from Gérard!
Christmas for us is very much an unknown quantity right now. We have mutually agreed with friends not to buy gifts this year so it will just be our daughter and family. We are still hoping it will be possible to see them on Christmas day but who knows. I look forward to seeing your preparations MM.
    Stay safe x

  12. Happy Anniversary and next year will be your Ruby Wedding. We visited Scotland the year of our Ruby Wedding. We are hoping to be able to spend Christmas day with our daughter and her family but it just depends on what the rules are. Unfortunately we are a group of 7 not 6. Husband knows we cannot have our usual Christmas Eve service but will be having a carol service the Sunday before it if we are being allowed to have our services by then. I think we all need to refocus on the true meaning of Christmas - the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ and get away from the commercialisation that takes over.

  13. happy Anniversary and many more to come! My daughter just celebrated hers on Friday. A great time of year to be married.

Hope you have a wonderful day. Thanks also for popping by and for all your kind and sweet comments. Hugs.

  14. Happy Anniversary! What a sweet gift from your husband. Such great words for you.

We are thinking about what to do for Christmas. It will be very different, that's for sure. All of our children and grandchildren live in the same town, but we are too many to get together indoors. But we can celebrate quietly, and remember the birth of Christ in many different ways.

  15. It's not the altercations you've had during your marriage but how you have resolved them. You seem like a lovely couple.

  16. Congratulations and Happy Anniversary! The leather bound journal is so lovely. It's true that the holidays will have to be different this year but maybe this will force us to think more of the spiritual aspect of the season. Stay well! GM

  17. Happy Anniversary. The leather bound journal is such a thoughtful gift.

As you say this pandemic is changing things, but it is giving us all a chance to slow down and discover the really important things in our lives.

    God bless.

  18. That was a lovely way to celebrate your anniversary. I was only married for 16years and that ended nearly 40 years ago but I still have lovely memories and do occasionally get out the photo albums to share with the children and grandchildren.

  19. Happy 39th Anniversary to you and Gerard! Nice and peaceful day sounds like. We'll be by ourselves for Christmas. I hope to get fake Christmas tree put up this year. Our daughter is flying home this weekend then will leave after thanksgiving driving her car back to still be with her friend. I will enjoy seeing her again. It is nice to have a quiet house with just the 2 of us. Our state is closed down a bit for 2 weeks starting on Wed. Bleah!! We will survive!💜🎶🌹💜🍰

  20. You and Gerard celebrated your anniversary so sweetly. I love the poem and the beautiful leather bound book it lives in. Life is different for all of us this year. Even though it's different we are blessed. Stay safe, my friend.

  22. Hello and a Happy Anniversary to you and Gerard. I'm glad that you had a good day, enjoying each others company and a nice dinner. The leather bound book he bought seems perfect for you my friend.
This was to be our Christmas with our son and grands but I fear it's not to be. The three west coast states of which we are one just announced a mandatory 14 day quarantine if you come to our states. In addition, our governor announced today a return to lockdown until the middle of December. Schools will still be open which I do not understand at all. They are germ fests there! Life is certainly different but as long as Dennis and I are together we will celebrate the birth of Christ with joy-filled hearts and celebrate the life He gives us.
Wishing you and Gerard many more wonderful years together when you can be with family as you long to be.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  27. What a beautiful post! Happy Anniversary to you both. We haven't made plans for Christmas, we have decided that we need to be very flexible and able to make the most of whatever opportunities arise. We are prepared to be on our own (for the first time ever) but would love not to have to be, and we are building in treats for ourselves. Take care. x

  28. What a lovely post. You have good glue - love - holding you together. Very few marriages are all sweetness and light. What a lovely gift from your husband.

Christmas will be just myself, Keith and Tam. We are hopeful that we will see our other daughter and son at some point, probably very briefly, but I think our Christmas will be low key, because of Covid, and because of moving. I will just settle for having our family together again, however briefly it might be.

  29. What a beautiful gift and sentiment from Gerard. Happy Anniversary. It will be a very simple Christmas here, too. I prefer a stress free holiday. Less is more. First there is the Thanksgiving meal to prepare. Yum!
