Reacquainting Myself With My Island Home

Now that the cottage is back to some normality we have made a start on some of the outside jobs.  Finally , very slowly the rusted roof is been removed from the old garage.  The grass has been mowed and is already ready for another cut.  We also have paint, where walls and window ledges need touching up.  Long may this beautiful weather last so that we can get some much needed work accomplished.

We have also taken time to once again take a little tour of our favourite spots and take in its beauty.  The Port at Ness is undergoing a few jobs too while the weather and tides are suitable.

We weren't able to take a stroll along the pier due to the abundance of sand but instead looked over the sea wall to admire the beauty.  The sea was calm and gently lapped against the rocks which was quite therapeutic to watch and listen to.

Our next stop the Butt of Lewis and its famous lighthouse.  As always the beauty was balm for the soul.  The screeching gulls adding another dimension and satisfying each of the senses.

Once again the gentle lapping of the sea against the rocks relaxing and soothing the mind.

Taking some deep breaths you could almost taste the salty sea.  It was nice to walk awhile and take in the wondrous sights.  All too soon we were back in the car and taking a look at the Grandchildren's favourite beach.  The sheep were also taking in its beauty and enjoying a stroll.

They obviously have no fear as they ramble and  graze getting closer and closer to the edge.  Always on the look out for greener and juicier.

Finally a drive past Eoropie and a quick look at the beautiful beach before heading home.

It was a joy to do a little tour around and reacquaint ourselves with the beauty that surrounds us.  Home Sweet Home.  Hope you enjoyed our little tour.  Have you a favourite place you like to sit and enjoy the beauty that surrounds you?

As always I do thank you for your visit here and for your sweet comments.

See you soon.

  2. It's good to get some outdoor jobs done whilst the good weather is with us but important too to take a rest and enjoy what's around us.

  7. Oh Lorraine, it is SO pretty. Isn't it amazing how the sea can change from a roaring force to the gentle lapping at the beach? I loved seeing the sheep wandering around too.
One of my favorite places is the lake when it's quiet. NOT the weekends when everyone is there and zipping around the roads, but the quiet of a weekday morning, watching the eagles and hawks swoop down to the lake to catch their breakfast.
Thank you for the tour of your beautiful home, it's easy to see why you love it so.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  8. Very nice to get out of the house and drive about seeing the sights, especially when the weather is cooperating. I believe you told us that the blue mark on the sheep means they’re going to be sheared???

  9. Oh happy sigh.... You live in such a beautiful area.

Ahhh, the gentle lapping of the water. Such a lovely and peaceful and relaxing sound. Not here though, as we are quite land-locked. :-)

Thank you for your delightful tour...

  12. I enjoyed your tour round your favourite place near home. It feels like if you listen - you can hear the bleating lambs, the crashing waves, screeching gulls, the chugging of the tractor and taste the salty spray.
I love looking at the rock outcrops, though geology is a distant memory with the OU, it's still fascinating.
My husband always loved Bosham as a child, I've always loved Langstone. Now I think we've never found a quiet place since having kids, though we've moved about a bit. We must change that as it's good to have that quiet place where you go and just sit and think, talk and just be... Cathy x

  14. It is nice to get out and tour familiar places, especially when you have work in process at your cottage and having been away. Glad to read that your father is doing better, Lorraine.

  15. It's nice you are able to take a break from jobs that need to be done and refresh yourself with the beauty that surrounds you. We often have a picnic down by our river and do the same. Have a lovely week.

  16. How I envy you being near the sea. I grew up in Northern California about 30 miles from Bodega Bay (the movie The Birds was filmed there if you remember it.) Don't miss Cali, but do miss the ocean and the beach.

  18. A little break from house and garden work can only be a good thing. When you live in such a beautiful place it must refresh you and your husband so that you're ready to take on the next renovation or maintenance task with renewed energy. Thank you for taking us along with you on the tour.

  22. Is the sand being added to a bare area or has the sea washed it up?
