Time And Tide

The days seem to be passing me by so quickly, time and tide waits for no man as the saying goes.  I feel busy and certainly fill my days so easily and yet I sit down in the evening and question what I have done all day.  The lambs around the crofts are growing and crofters are now thinking about getting the peats dug in readiness for next winter.  The next task always there to be done in an ever moving cycle.

I have managed to do a little crafting sat each evening, a few rows here and there on a shawl.  I have started another one this time in a shade of green which was easy to carry with me.  It is now too large to take with me so will be finished a few rows at a time.

My grab and go bag now holds a knitting project, I am knitting a few snoods in readiness for gifts.  One completed another started.

I have never worked with this type of yarn before but was amazed how quickly it knits up and how soft it is.  The perfect accessory for the cold and windy months we have on this Island.

I feel this time of year races by so much to do and so many places to go...do you feel the same?  I have started to take more notice of my surroundings so that I can appreciate each season better.  The glorious colours on the moor and the striking colours of the sea meeting in harmony and reflecting what is the Hebrides as we go through each day.  I have taken so many photos since living here, many in the same place and yet each photo different.  Each time we drive over the moor to town a different view as the living earth changes continuously the ebb and flow of each tide different from the last.  A place of beauty giving an inner peace.  An artists paradise...if only I dare to try.

See you soon.

  1. Such beautiful projects and interesting yarns. How sweet to think ahead of presents for others! The scenery around you is to be enjoyed on a daily basis.

  2. It's so easy in the time we're now living to rush by without giving our surroundings a second glance, but how much we'd miss. There's so much beauty to be found around us, we just need to slow down a little and enjoy it. The shawl is beautiful, it looks squishy and cosy, just what you'll need when the colder weather arrives.

  3. Time passes far too quickly, doesn't it? I make time every day to reflect on what is happening in myeline. I am glad that you find time each day to do a little crafting, it is good for the soul, I am convinced of it.

  4. If you never try with paints, you surely have succeeded with words. What a marvelous paragraph that was!

  5. Beautiful thoughts today, my friend.
I know exactly what you mean.
    Time passes quickly.
    Lovely projects.
    Have a cozy day!

  6. Perhaps Spring seems to race by, because its weather is less with you, than colder weather... And there is more of a feeling of, not wanting to miss a moment, of Spring.

And then, we are constantly almost bombarded with the idea, that we do not have enough time! This fast paced world we live in...... "Demands" we try to cram 30 hours of "doing," into each 24 hours.

And even if we don't want it to, that "Message" can effect us.

I doubt our ancestors had this feeling. They lived in each Season, according to that Season. Did what they had to do. Moved on to the next Season, and repeated. Probably without the modern feeling of... "Where did the time go??????"

All we have, is NOW. We need to realize this, more. And do keep noticing all the Beauty, with which we are surrounded.

    Gentle hugs...

  8. As I grow older, I noticed that time really flies by so fast. There are so many things we want to do but we too need to slow down to appreciate the beauty of our surroundings.

  10. You make such lovely things. Sadly my crafting mojo has ground to a halt. I have a sock to finish knitting but just can't be bothered at the moment

  11. A snood? unfamiliar to me here in Texas. Your post is a good reminder that time passes quickly when you get things done and slowly when you just sit and fret. I am trying to remember to love my life just as it is even though it is not what I would choose to do. Be blessed today.

  12. You write of your days so beautifully. "The glorious colours on the moor and the striking colours of the sea meeting in harmony and reflecting what is the Hebrides as we go through each day." I love it!

  13. Good Morning Lorraine. What a beautiful post. The days do indeed seem to fly by. I think even more so as we get older. I have always enjoyed the seasons lived in an agricultural surrounding like I did growing up. There were always distinct chores to be done with each season in readiness for the next one.
Your knitting and crochet is lovely. The yarn for your snoods looks very similar to the yarn I used for the shawls. Does it feel the same?
I love the descriptions you make of your surroundings. They are very poetic and beautiful. You should write a book about your new home. Seriously. It would be wonderful.
    Blessings always my friend,
    Betsy

  16. I find photography makes me look carefully at my surroundings and I'm sure painting a landscape does the same although, of course, at a more leisurely pace. Seeing the ever changing colours of land and sea on your island must be a wonderful experience. Enjoy the satisfaction of creating your gifts and relaxing at the same time.

  18. I agree that this time of year goes quickly by. We travel more and there is more on the calendar. I wish I could slow time down! Love the projects you have going on!

  19. Your shawl is lovely. Isn't it wonderful to live in a beautiful setting when you are an artist? I feel the same way about California. It's just gorgeous...

  20. Time does fly by, especially at this time of year. I'm always amazed at how quickly the flowers and plants bloom and then die off until next year. You do live in a gorgeous setting and I'm always happy to see the photos you take of your area.

  21. I like the first shawl, the cream-coloured one. It looks to be super soft and warm. You always have a few projects on-the-go and they're all lovely!

  22. Yes, I feel the same I'm letting May slip by without 'feeling it' properly. May and June are favourite months so full of colour and hope. Your craft projects are lovely as are the lambs:)

  23. I must admit I am rather envious of anyone who can knit. There was a lady sat knitting in the tea room at the garden centre yesterday and I found it very soothing to sit and watch her.
I have a hat made in a similar yarn to the black you are using and it is soooo cosy.

  24. When I read your opening sentences, Lorraine, I was glad to know that others share the same thoughts at the end of a day. Many times I say “whee did the day go and what have I done.” And my husband lets me know I have done more than I give myself credit for accomplishing. From what you post about doing, you certainly do a lot in a day!

  27. I've enjoyed reading your post and seeing your craft today. It's so important to slow down and collect our thoughts, we consume so much - material goods, TV / radio programmes etc. We've just lived in a caravan for a few days at the weekend but back home I'm seeing all the unnecessary things we allow to clutter our home and lives. I must continue my decluttering and enjoy 'sitting & reflecting' in clear space again, Cathy x

  28. Thanks for sharing your lovely surroundings with us through words and photos, Lorraine. I am way behind on commenting on your posts, but especially enjoyed the pages you shared from your journaling Bible, and love seeing your sea, and lambs, gardening and crafting. When I take account of what I have finished in a day I tend to think I am always behind on my "to do" list...not enough hours in a day to do all I want...but how grateful I am that the Lord allows me time for creative pursuits. Others may be more gifted than I am, but the creative process brings me joy and I pray honors Him. xx

  31. I think you are living a very good life.. home pursuits, the shed to work on, crafting on the go.. the sea and moors around you. I am also trying to enjoy the same things here in Oregon, USA. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
