Glorious Red Skies

This morning we have awoke to another dreich day, damp and misty not tempting me to go out at all.  So I think it will be a craft day today, working on some of the things that I have started.  Although we do have plans for a film and curry evening tonight.

I have been working on a lacy Spring cowl for a gift using alpaca yarn left over from another project.  It just needs to be stitched/crocheted into the round.

I will show you it when it is finished.  I love how delicate the pattern is and will due to its neutral colour go with any outfit.

I am also working on a crochet wreath, a start has been made on covering the wreath.  I am using wool from local sheep and spun on the Island.  It has numerous colours through it and reminds me of the ever changing colours of the moorland.

I have already made some flowers using vintage lace and buttons from my massive collection.

It is now my intention to crochet some flowers.

I have just finished another flower brooch, this time with the addition of a ladybird button.  I like to have a small gift ready now and again for a little friend and neighbour who I craft with on occasion.

There has been some progress made on Honey's blanket, albeit slowly.

I am also plodding along with my Christmas scrapbook and have been enjoying the process.  Making some cards for the next few months is on the list to do.  So plenty to be getting on with and keep me busy.

Yesterday we awoke to beautiful red skies and sat for sometime looking out of the window nursing a cup of tea.  It was spectacular and in truth the photos do not do it justice.

A beautiful awakening.

As always I thank you for your visit and hope you find something of interest, I also thank you for your uplifting comments.  A warm welcome to new followers I do hope you enjoy my little adventures through life.

See you soon.

  1. Your beautiful crochet blanket has inspired me to make my own, using your pattern - I hope you don't mind. I needed a break from the massive double blanket I'm currently making, so a baby blanket in your pattern, which grows quickly using Aran yarn, will be perfect, thank you.

  4. I love the idea of the wreath and will join you in making one. Those skies are incredible. Would it be cheeky of me to ask if you could take a red sunrise over the sea picture if ever you are up and about early. I would have it enlarged and put in a frame for my craft room.

Just love the stunning pictures of the colours in the sky. Beautiful.

  7. Beautiful crafting projects, Lorraine, and Honey will surely enjoy the bright colors in the blanket. It can be challenging to capture a good sky. I always have issues with annoying power lines that get in the way.

  9. Always something interesting here...Honey’s blanket is so nice...lovely color combinations. Speaking of which, those sunrise skies were anazing...perhaps they gave you an indication of the lowery day coming, but your plan to craft through are the way to go.

  10. That lacy cowl is simply beautiful. As are your pieces of vintage lace. Lace, in any form, is so lovely....

Gorgeous sunrise! We noticed one, a few morning ago. Didn't have my camera upstairs though, and did not get pics. But we certainly enjoyed it, through the trees to the east of us.

We don't have a clear view of either sunrise or sunset, but when the sky is on fire, we can see it! Even without a clear view! :-)))))))

And do you have the saying...? "Red sky in the morning, sailors take warning. Red sky at night, sailors delight." It held true, because the day was stormy.

  13. When I see all of your beautiful crochet projects it really makes me wish that I was more competent with hooks and knitting needles. Alas I do not have the patience.

  20. Your lacy scarf is a beauty.. and Honey's blanket is coming along nicely, too. So nice to have craft skills when you live in a rural area. I live in the country and my crochet brings me great joy. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  25. I, too, have a lot of pretty buttons. I love the way you pair them with lace to make flowers. I believe the flowers would make beautiful tops for napkin rings. I can find inexpensive plastic napkin rings at thrift stores and the flowers could be glued on. What do you think?

  35. Lace so PRETTY in your cowl. I love those pattens because you get two for the price of one - the crocheted pattern plus the patterns created by the negative spaces as soon as you put solid darker colours behind it.
The colours in your local wool are beautiful. I love the natural fleece colours of sheep and alpaca - why dye them when the natural colours are so beautiful.
