The Living Moor

As we drove across the moor yesterday, we drove through the rain lashing down on the windows and then a quiet calm before the rain thrashed down once more.  We did get a reprieve whilst we were in town so I was able to have a wander without getting too wet.  The moor is living thing and evokes the senses on so many levels.  At this time of year you can see the gold and earthy colours that are used in the making of Harris Tweed.  Natural colours that inspire creativity.  A paintbox of Autumnal colour, always something to draw your eye.

Mist and cloud shrouding the distant hills, making the picture look distorted.

The changing colours of the moor adding their own beauty to the landscape.

Berries adding to natures beautiful table.

A tour of the charity shops was fun, it is always a thrill to find something  you want/need.  Today's find was three lovely jars that I will use to fill with homemade biscuits or chocolates, a bargain at 10p each.

The supermarkets were well stocked, much to my surprise so some Ferries must have been running.  I was thankful, I have a full fridge and have stocked up with extra essentials once again.  I did get lucky with some yellow sticker bits and I had a £9 off coupon which helped reduce the bill.

Gerard's rehabilitation has been extended again, a little disappointing but it is what it is.  He is to be reassessed in two weeks prior to seeing the cardiac consultant.

Once again we have no real plans for the weekend, have you?  We have lots to keep us occupied, a new jigsaw, books and craft projects, along with keeping in touch with family via skype.  A warm cosy cottage and plenty of food, what more do we need?

Thank you for your visits, comments and emails and a warm welcome to new followers I do hope you enjoy my little adventures through life.

See you soon.

  1. I can imagine it is disappointing to have the rehabilitation extended again, but at least you can be sure they are taking great care.

I didn't think we had a great deal to do this weekend, but tonight we are going to a dance event, which is outside so I'm a bit sceptical! Enjoy your weekend,

  2. My weekend will be quiet too, MM, as G is taking his bad neck to work and the family will be in North Yorkshire for a special competition in which GD is taking part. I'm looking forward to a bit of quiet time to try and recharge my batteries. Very best wishes to Gerald in his recovery. Enjoy your weekend x

  3. It looks wonderful - beautiful.

Sorry to hear your husband's rehabilitation is being extended, but he will get there! It might just take a little longer. My weekend seems to be looking like a quiet one - husband is working overtime. I shall be spending a couple of hours on Saturday (as usual) visiting via Skype with Mum. It's our usual Saturday thing.

  4. Good to know that Gerard is getting such good care. I suppose these things can take more time than originally thought. You sound as if you have plenty to keep you both occupied over the weekend. Your misty moorland photos are lovely:)

  7. Beautiful photos of the moor. It looks a bit like our landscape today, only we have lots of mountains in the background! It’s very rainy and my goodness, we need that rain desperately. I’m sorry to hear Gerards rehabilitation has been extended. I’m continuing to keep both of you in my prayers.
We have a trip to the orchard planned for tomorrow with friends. It’s supposed to be nice tomorrow and then rain again all day Sunday, so I hope that’s true.
    Many blessings, Betsy

  8. Hopefully by the time Gerard has finished with all the rehab he will be a new man and you can just settle into winter and hunker down. Has the cold weather hit you? I have been watching the forecast and thought of you last night. It's not been bad here but I can feel a real dip in the temperature.

  9. Awful weather here, but we are used to it. Glad the shops had supplies.

  10. Came across Saddleworth Moor this afternoon in glorious autum sunshine and north through the Lakes and home to near Glasgow. We were so lucky to see Nature’s infinite beauty most of the way home with only a few torrential showers just to add some variety. Glad that Gerald is having such care taken of him to help him return to full health.

  11. Those jars were a super find, and as for the yellow labels they never reduce things by much near me any more I used to get some bargains. That said my son got some pre packed sandwiches for his lunch for 10p one evening, he did walk down quite late though. Have a lovely cosy weekend. We are out for lunch tomorrow as it's our anniversary on Sunday, but don't want to go then as we all eat together then for Sunday lunch! x

  12. I was sorry to hear Gerard's rehabilitation is being extended, but it is good that he is being well monitored. My weekend depends on the weather, I want to mow the lawn and tidy the garden up a bit, but if it rains I might make a start on some quilting and do a bit more work on my dolls house x

  13. Wonderful that you found the markets well stocked. All I know of moors is from novels so I enjoyed the discussion here. Keeping you folks tucked into my prayers.

  14. I like the colors of the moor and the photo of the houses...so nice! I'd like to live in one of those! ;'} Glad you are getting rain too and hopefully not alot of storms. I like to keep stocked up with food too, cuz ya never know what will happen once winter hits or a disaster of some type...hopefully not! (scary to think about but being prepared is a good thing!) We had a good rain Thurs and it was so nice to drive home in it...felt like Oregon again! I am feeling better. Just get tired from work week by Thurs. Am cutting 4 hours from my work week in a few months, which will be nice. Prayers for Gerard and for you as well, my friend! Hugs!

  15. Thanks for sharing your beautiful moor! I am glad you are well cared for and have cozy plans for the weekend. We are getting much needed rain as nearby Becky reported and I am hoping that when the clouds rise we see more snow on Mr. Hood. I plan to go to a monthly art group on Sat. and then services on Sunday. My prayers for healing for you two continue xx

  16. We don't have any particular plans for the weekend but we rarely do. I hope your weather isn't too blustery. Keep warm and cozy.

  17. Your post has me thinking about the landscape (the moors) and the colours of tweeds I've seen.I love fabric, especially natural fabrics for I think they take colour with depth and nuance.
Sorry that Gerard's treatment is being extended, but it's good that the doctors are taking care.
We're away from home this weekend and enjoying a bit of downtime.

  18. I love your pictures of the moor, "of the golds and earthy colors, and a paintbrush of autumnal colors." How wonderfully beautiful!

  19. The moor is indeed beautiful with colours. I like jigsaw puzzles especially the challenging ones. Have a beautiful weekend!

  20. It looks as if it was cold that day when you took the pictures. Here too it's getting cold and very windy. I love charity shops, unfortunately we don't have them here yet, only two it's arriving ! I have no plans for this weekend ... to humid and cold !

  21. I think moors can look so bleak when the weather's bad but beautiful all the same. It's so cold here today and it's raining and windy too, how quickly the weather can change. Enjoy the weekend in your cosy cottage.

  22. You have certainly been busy my friend - all those darling ornaments you are making! I wish i could take a whiff of your cottage - I am certain it smells delightful!

  23. It was fun to see the moor as you crossed the island to the town. I'm glad the grocery was well stocked so you'll be ready for the winter when you might need to hunker down for days and maybe even weeks at a time. Tell Gerard I hope things work out for him with his health. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  24. Like seeing your changing seasons where you live. I think winter is just right around the corner now with the chilly days we have been having here. Your cottage does sound so cozy and warm and inviting.
Wishing Gerard well and good to hear he is taking care of and following the doctors orders. The damp cold weather must be hard on the joints as it is on mine when it gets damp here. I feel more right before it rains.

  25. "The Living Moor"... What a delightful thought! And how wonderfully you describe it. In words and in photos.

Seems the very word "Moor," conjures up such lovely thoughts.... With mist (Dragon's Breath) upon it. And being all moody and misty and brooding. :-)

    Delightful post....

  28. To see all that wide open expanse of land is rare for a city dweller such as myself. It's beautiful in a raw and rustic way.

Sorry about the extended rehabilitation - happy you are blessed with your warm and cozy home.

Thanks so much for your visit and sweet comments. Hugs.

  29. Beautiful photographs of that rugged island which is so dear to my heart. We lived at Lochganvich, just the other side of Achmore, so we were surrounded by moors and peat bogs.

Best wishes to you and your husband.

  30. Your weather looked as dreary as our own did this past weekend in Nashua, NH. Bargains are always fun to find and re-purposing them is even better. Hope Gerard's rehab goes well; set-backs are always disappointing.
