Heartfelt Thanks

A heartfelt thank you  for all your prayers and messages for Gerard.  Thankfully he is recovering well and is now home at the cottage been looked after by me.  I have lit the stove and we have enjoyed some warming winter soup and scones.  We are spending quality time together watching some of our favourite films and reading up in readiness for our next venture.

The chicken coop has been ordered, we have paid a little extra to have it erected for us.  Gerard is phoning the man who supplies chickens to the Island tomorrow to arrange delivery from Skye of  six chickens.  We are quite excited about it.  Little by little we are realising our dreams, a little slower than anticipated but we are getting there.

Hope all is well with you, I am trying in earnest to catch up with you all.

See you soon.

  8. That is good news about your husband.

Lucky hens, I'm sure they will have a wonderful life with you - do you plan to name them? I miss our little flocks, they were such characters - and the eggs were excellent.

  10. So sorry to read that Gerard had another upset and glad to know that he is already home under your good care. I am sure that your daughter and family were concerned and will be glad to know that dad/grandpa is busily preparing for a brood of chickens. Stay cozy!

  11. Six very lucky hens, they will be, for they will have the best of care when they arrive at your door. Chickens have been a big part of our lives, having been contract growers for a large company for many years. But, best of all were the small barnyard flocks.

  16. I'm happy to hear Gerard is home and being well taken care of by his devoted and very fabulous nurse/wife! I'm super excited that you are getting a chicken house and will look forward to seeing it. Six hens is a perfect start, what age will they be? You want pullets that are just starting to lay. And the biggest thing is to make your chicken house and run completely predator proof. Do you have fox on the island? They're the worst chicken killers. Good luck! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  17. So glad Gerard is home and you are both well and hatching plans to welcome your chickens! About 66 years ago I lived on Flying Feather Chicken Farm in Andover, Massachusetts : ) Then for 15 years I lived on a research poultry farm a little south of Kansas City, Missouri. Although I have never raised any chickens I admire friends who do and look forward to learning about your adventures with your flock! xx

How exciting to be getting chickens. That is a dream I too hope to realise one day. I used to keep chickens as a teenager and loved it. So nice to have fresh eggs daily.

  22. Glad Gerard is ok now !
I was looking for chicken's coop too, but it's expensive to order from outside so I find some model online and expect to do one "easy-to-do" with my husband.
    Have a cozy weekend !
