I dried a lot of herbs and finally got round to breaking them up and putting them into glass storage jars. They are perfect for adding to stews/casseroles during the Winter months.
This is some of the mint I dried, I am quite impressed how much it has retained its colour. We grew several varieties and they have all dried well. I do like to add mint to potatoes and make mint sauce regularly.
It is to fit a single bed, so awhile to go yet but I am enjoying the process. The same pattern will be used to crochet a blanket for Honey using pink and lilac yarn. I am using aran wool so it will be lovely and warm for them and of course it does crochet up quickly.
Mickey is looking a little bedraggled, so it is time to get the grooming table out and give him a good brush. We can then decide if need to be given a cut or not. He is certainly in need of a bath, in fairness he does quite enjoy splashing about in the water. In the summer we fill an old children's paddling pool for him.
I am thinking I might get some soap made to go with the wash cloths that I have been crocheting. I have also crocheted some soap savers, I was inspired by some that I saw on pioneerwomanatheart.blogspot.co.uk/ Kristina is an inspiration to all those who strive for self sufficiency. I will share mine on another post once I have made the soap.
As always I do thank you for your visit and your comments. A warm welcome to a new follower I do hope you enjoy my little adventures through life. Today I will leave you with a a sheep whose little face I fell in love with, the photo taken up by the lighthouse.
See you soon.
PS The hen house has arrived, so Gerard has made a start in making a area for them. He has made a start making some fencing and a gate.
What method do you use to dry herbs?
ReplyDeleteExciting news about the hen house, I am looking forward to hearing all about it.x
You are certainly keeping yourself busy and entertained. I still have tons of gardening to do but since Ruby came into our lives, things are getting behind!
ReplyDeleteIt is nice, just once in a while, to have time for puttering with no distractions. It is good to know that your husband is doing much better on the new medications. The blanket is so warm looking and I am sure that Bertie will love it. I am curious about the first start and what went wrong. Beautiful sheep!
ReplyDeleteThat sheep looks freshly groomed! Maybe Micky could look and learn.
ReplyDeleteGood to know that things are getting on well. That is going to be a pretty blanket. Mickey and the sheep are looking well. Have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteGlad you are both doing well. It's always nice to have a little time to yourself. Your blanket looks lovely. The blog looks interesting - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear the man is stable. Also to have time on your own is good. The sheep is very like your dog!

ReplyDeleteLove your blanket..
ReplyDeleteThe safari is making some problem, no one is getting my comments..now I am using Chrome.. :(
It's nice to hear Gerard is doing well! What a lovely blanket you are making for Bertie. So colorful and I'm sure will make for comfy times. Love the sweet little black faced beauty you captured by the lighthouse. ♥
ReplyDeleteI think if I had a view of sheep in a pasture next door I would spend a lot of my time watching them. And taking pictures.
ReplyDeleteGood news that your husband is well enough to drive to his appointments himself and that his new meds seem to be working.

ReplyDeleteglad he is going to cardiac rehab! I hope he continues to improve. Frodo goes for a beauty appointment with the groomer every 6 weeks because I don't want to do anything except comb his beard.

ReplyDeleteMint is one of my most favourite herbs.
Your blanket looks very cosy and I really love the colours.
Hugs-x-
Bedraggled or not, I think Mickey is pretty cute. I’m so happy Gerard is doing better. Every year I say I’m going to dry herbs and then I never do. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
I am still trying to resist getting chickens again. I still miss them and the daily fresh eggs. (My hubby always jokingly said that each egg cost $1 with the cost of feed and housing.) Your blanket is working out nicely. The colors are wonderful. I love the sheep.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy reading about the happenings in your town and home. Bertie's blanket is coming along well for having begun it again. Cute sheep. I'm glad Gerard is doing well.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a lovely day pottering around the house - my favourite type of day. x
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy a bit of peace and quiet! Gerard's doing well and your blanket looks great, the colours are just right.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear Gerard is doing well. I'm looking forward to seeing how the hen project develops. I can imagine the nice, soft feel of that aran wool as you crochet lovely blankets. Mickey is a sweet-looking dog. It looks very cosy in your home. The sheep's fleece is thick and I guess kept on during the Winter months.
ReplyDeleteGood news about Gerard, I'm glad he's doing well. I always try and get my jobs done on a morning so that I've got the rest of the day to myself. Mickey is such a cutie, Archie is due for a trim too, I need to make an appointment. Awww, that little sheepy face!
ReplyDeleteYour blanket looks beautiful. You reminded me to go check my herb garden. I need to stock up before the frost hits us.
ReplyDeleteLots of lovely and useful things to do and to look forward to. I'm glad to hear that Gerard is doing well:)
ReplyDeleteGlad that your husband is ok!
ReplyDeleteI've start a blanket too ;) In green....
Have a quiet weekend !
Anna
How nice that you dry your own herbs. And a great start on the blanket, I've just started one as well.

I love the blanket, the design and the colours. Good news about Gerard, hopefully he’ll now move from strength to strength xx
ReplyDeleteGlad Gerard is on the mend and able to drive by himself. We have dried lavender we need to put into jars that I got in July! Megan likes to make tea with it and sachets too...! Nice blanket and hope it goes well to finish it. Have a good weekend across the pond!! hugs!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blanket ! and you have your wool supplier directly in front of your house, lol ! Good news that Gerard is feeling better !
ReplyDeleteThe blanket is lovely!! Thanks so much for taking the time to visit and to leave such sweet comments!!!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Deb
Lots going on! That blanket is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I knew that your hubby had had a hear attack, gosh I' so sorry to hear that, and relieved that he is doing ok now. At what point in your move were you when that happened ? Must've been awful.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with Mickey's bath!
Jillxo
I love the colors in the blanket that you are making . . . it is going to be beautiful . . . and so cozy and warm :) Very glad to hear that your husband is better . . . that must have been quiet a scare.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you both.
Connie :)
What a lovely post! I really enjoyed catching up on what's been happening in your life. So glad that your hubby is doing well. You have both been through quite a traumatic time this year so good news is wonderful to hear. Your blanket is really lovely and I have to say that I am impressed that you do your own dog grooming!
ReplyDeleteIt's exciting that you will have hens and fresh eggs of your own! And how wonderful that Gerard is on his own to make the trip to town and feeling much better. I always love having the house to myself for a bit, too, and I hope you don't worry about him going off alone.
ReplyDeletelove the blanket, great stitch and colour combo. Mickey is looking cute, I really miss having a dog around.
ReplyDeleteFresh eggs sound wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear about Gerard feeling well and going out on his own to town.
Having time to oneself is good to get a few things done. I love that time but not for to long though.
Fine blanket and the colors for it are ones I do like. Nice work you do indeed.
betsy
Your beautiful dog looks a bit like mine, I am contemplating whether to get them a hair cut or not. Last time I had their faces cut it was a disaster. They look so shaggy and must be brushed every day. Hope you have good news about Gerald's health.
ReplyDeleteThe sheep looks like you gave him a nice brushing! I admire you drying herbs and your latest stitching, and am so glad Gerard is making good health progress! xx
