Spring Is In The Air...In January!!!

I am having a busy week, Dad has been in bed for five days struggling with his breathing and out of sorts altogether.  Whilst here my dear husband is in the midst of a flare up of rheumatoid arthritis his joints are swollen and he is in a great deal of pain, compounded by the fact that he has a chest infection.  As you can imagine not a lot of crafting is getting done, I have managed a few hours of crochet in an evening so I am now on the border of the final blanket for our new Grandson.

I have stolen a few minutes here and there to work on the quilt, progress is slow but at least there is a little progress.

I have managed to get some what I call necessity sewing done, altering Dad's pyjamas.  He is not good on his feet these days so if the pyjamas bottoms are too long he does fall.

We really have had a mild winter so far with record high temperatures, although a lot of rain which has caused flooding in a lot of areas.  Apparently everything changes tonight and there will be a drastic drop in temperature, it is already feeling cooler and frosts and snow in some areas is predicted.  Consequently I thought it prudent to have a stroll around the garden and rescue what I could before the onset of the bad weather.  We were blessed with quite a crop of dwarf carrots, which are a wonderful sweet carrot and have now been gathered in.

If you take a walk around the garden it would trick you into thinking it was the early onset of Spring.  Already the new growth on the pinks and lavenders are beginning to show.

Bulbs are starting to emerge from their winters sleep, the mild weather is confusing Mother Nature.

Flowers are beginning to appear...

Did I mention the weeds and the length of the grass?   If it wasn't so wet I would get the lawn mower out and cut it back.  It will be interesting to see what effect the cold snap will have on the garden and the effects of the long standing water in some of the pots which I have no doubt will freeze.

Is the weather affecting your garden?

See you soon.

  3. Hope everyone is feeling better soon. Lovely to see your green shoots as we have had another stinking hot day and my paddocks are bare and dead! I cannot wait for autumn to arrive and hopefully some life-giving rains.

  4. I sympathise with your suffering family, I have had Rheumatioid Arthritis for years, but it doesn't flair up very often, but now it is starting to get bad.

  8. Hope your father and husband are feeling better soon.

So far, we have NOT had a frost in my part of Florida. So, the garden pretty much looks like it always does. THREE of my orchids are getting ready to bloom ....one that has never bloomed before. I'm anxious to see what that one looks like.

Hope the freeze doesn't hit you too hard.

  9. It has gone bitterly cold here today but I don't hold out much hope for snow. We hardly ever get any here even though all around us are knee deep in it :(

  13. I hope your Dad and husband feel better soon. The damp weather is not good for the joints and chest complaints as we know ourselves. I would rather have cold, dry weather. It's likely we shall have snow here too. It's good that you've got a crop of carrots - something we don't seem to be able to grow successfully.

  15. Sorry about the family ills. No fun. I hope they both perk up soon. We're in a rainy period here after several days of sun. To me, winter is just something to get through.. Spring is my favorite season. Can't wait. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  16. Your garden is as confused as ours is! The poor plants are all topsy turvey aren't they. I hope that your Dad and Husband will both be feeling better again soon. It is a horrid time of year for illness and bugs, so I hope that your weather stays mild to help them - even if the plants get mixed up with it! xx

  17. Yes, long grass and new shoots here as well, it's all very odd isn't it. There are daffodils everywhere, it will be strange without them in spring. So sorry to hear that your dad is out of sorts, I do hope he recovers very soon. And also your husband, rheumatoid arthritis and a chest infection as well sounds really horrid. I hope he has a swift recovery too. CJ xx

  19. Sincere hope that your hubby & father will soon be on the mend.
The weather has been so mixed up so its not surprising the plants think Spring!
I love your hexagons & hope you can get some more crafting done soon!

  21. Sure hope your dad and your husband get well soon. The weather has been the same here and I am afraid a lot of the early spring blooming flowers and bushes are ruined. Several are budding and blooming now and we have colder weather on the way too. Hope you get to sew more.

  22. It is wet and chilly here but no flowers here. I did look for roses today after work at a garden center. I was trying to figure out a certain rose I want but to no avail. So am going to find paper that I wrote name on this summer and then I can find it. I do have a photo of it so that can help. Google search another day. Hope you all get feeling better. My back hurts as of Friday and my daughter got sick again with a cold and cough. I sprayed Lysol in our house this evening so hopefully that will help! So many people are sick and some of it just comes back! Sigh!

  24. I hope your Dad and your husband have a speedy recovery, sorry to hear that they are not well. The garden is certainly doing strange things but the ground is so wet it's difficult to get much done.
I hope your patients are soon better and remember to take good care of yourself.

  26. I know just what you mean...the weather here has done the same thing. Just when those little plants thought their (very short) winter nap was over, here came the deep freeze! I sure hope they wake up when they are supposed when spring REALLY arrives! :)

  27. My garden is much the same - grass very long and bulbs coming up in the pots. I do hope they will be stalled by the current cold snap. Your quilting is lovely. I hope you will get some time to please yourself and rest a bit, in the midst of caring for others.

  31. So sorry for the ill health around you, Mama. I hope you are able to get the rest and refreshment time you need to keep going, and that your husband and dad feel better soon. We are back to milder weather here, too, but I haven't seen our daffodils poking out yet. Cheers for your progress in your sewing projects in the midst of your nursing duties :) xx
