Scenes From My Week

A busy week but a week of contemplation, giving us chance to reflect over the past year since our move and rejoice in all that we have achieved and celebrate in future plans.  We finally took the plunge and bought a railway diorama.  Gerard thinks all his birthdays have come at once and has great plans to build it up for the Grandchildren.  It has certainly given him a renewed determination to get the outbuilding organised so that he can have the landing.  At the moment it has been temporarily set up in the bedroom used for the children when they visit.  Realistically we know the children will never sleep if left there they will be playing with it all night long.

We have already had so much fun discussing plans with the children using Skype.  We have also sent pictures via email.  The wonders of technology, enabling us to continue the wonderful friendships we have with our loved ones.  We would all be lost without it.

The weather seems to be one of the main topics of the week, with such beautiful blue skies and the emerging of signs of Spring all around.  It has been a real blessing enabling so many little jobs to get done and a renewed vigour for some of the larger jobs to be started.  It has also been a joy to see so many visitors to the croft.

Despite standing at the window for several minutes they were determined not to show their faces, they must have known I was watching them.

A determined effort has been made on Hectors quilt as it is only 4 weeks until we leave our Island paradise and once again head South to visit our beloved family and then onto Florida to celebrate my 60th Birthday.

As you can see still a long way to go, particularly as it all hand stitched but I am hopeful.  If only I could stay away from the windows...

There is an Arctic blast anticipated the media have named the Beast from the East, so I hope you are able to keep warm and dry.  I have just made scotch broth and have a mixed seed loaf just out of the oven if you want to stay and chat for awhile.

See you soon.

  2. What a great railway, I think Gerard will get as much pleasure out of that as the grandchildren will. How lovely seeing so much wildlife around the croft, especially all the bunny rabbits, I'd be permanently at the windows with so much to see.

  4. Your handiwork is so lovely. I have yet to learn to quilt. There is so much I want to learn, but I feel like my daily chores keep me from anything now-a-days.

  6. I had to look up scotch broth. Good thing I did as I was thinking “butterscotch.” 🙂

  8. My father had a railroad system in his basement, it went all over the room with mountains, lakes, towns and farms. It was magnificent and gave him hours of enjoyment. Have fun, the grand kids are going to love it.

  9. Mu cousins had a railway set up in one of their bedrooms as children and I always remember going up there to play and look at it. Grand children will be so happy. Nice to think about moving into spring at your new cottage. Have fun with the family and in Florida.

  11. Many years ago when the boys were little, we got a railway set with all of the trimmings. The oldest and I spent hours getting it set up on a sheet of 4x8' plywood...tunnel, buildings, grasses, plants, light poles, people...it had it all. A lot of fun for a while! The quilt is going to be so lovely...such bright colors and patterns!

  12. Oh my! The children are going to love that railroad. I can just imagine Gerard and them and the many happy hours of playtime they will have together. Love your bunnies and the other visitors too. We’re still having very, very cold weather here. No signs of spring at all. The quilt is coming along beautifully and I’m sure you will have it done in no time. You get so much accomplished. And how fun to be making travel plans for your birthday. Hopefully it will be warmer in Florida!
    Blessings always,
    Betsy

  13. Have fun with the railway! The quilt is looking super - I am sure you will get it finished. I'll pass on the broth - I don't like soup with "bits"!!

  14. What fun your grands are going to have with the railway! And your lovely quilt is going to delight Hector. It sounds like a great trip coming up to celebrate your birthday. ♥

  15. Watch out when you go to Florida. There are more guns there, and whack jobs using them, than the average country’s army. Not a place I would want to visit.

  16. Hector's quilt is coming along nicely and he is going to love it no doubt!
The train set will provide lots of fun for Gerard and also the grands. When our oldest son was maybe a year old my DH bought "him" a train set. You know who got to play with it most.

  18. Lovely quilt! Love the idea of the train set - what fun! I enjoy seeing your signs of Spring. With the sun out here the last couple of days the deer have been out and about and I even saw a turkey and a muskrat last week! Spring will be coming soon!

  19. I like all the visitors to your place, especially the rabbit, my favorite. I'm glad Gerard has his train set and up and having fun with it. How fun to plan a getaway to the island here....wish I were closer and I'd visit you but I can dream can't I? It's been chilly here, especially after the sun sets. Take care!

  20. How fun to have so many different animals visit your croft! Were the geese honking? What a big healthy rabbit! I'm actually jealous of your little model train set as I've wanted one for years, also. Did that set up come with it? It's good that Gerard has something of his own to inspire him to work on getting the stone building all set up for you both to use. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  21. You've had some wonderful visitors there! How exciting to have the model train for the grandchildren, although I think Grandfather may enjoy it just as much! Your quilt is coming along nicely - it's so bright and cheery :) It's so nice to have a pot of soup on the burner and a loaf in the oven on a brisk, spring-like day. Our snow has melted, but the temperatures are still just above freezing. Hope the 'Beast from the East' turns out to be a lap-dog. Hugs xo Karen

  29. What a fun quilt for a little boy! I made my twin grandboys comforters and curtains for their room out of the cars cartoon fabric when they were about 2 and they loved them. Yours remind me of those happy times when they were so little.
