Scenes From My Week

As I said in my last post changeable is the word that I would use for the weather here this week and it seems that this a familiar pattern worldwide.  We have covered all the elements, sharp changes in the temperature and some amazing skies containing snow, sleet, hail  and rain.

The snow went as quickly as it came but did make for many a happy hour at the window watching it.

There have been some visitors to the garden but I am not quick enough with the camera, so the quality of the photos is not good.

Our trip out this week was to Stornoway to the An Lanntair to see the Weaving Ghosts Exhibition, based on the Shetland basket making tradition.  It is an evolving exhibition made from 'ghost gear'.  I know. I didn't know what that was either, apparently it is the name that has been given internationally to marine debris.  Polypropylene ropes, nets and plastic that is a consequence of commercial fishing.  It is a global problem and is dangerous to shipping and wildlife.

It certainly made for a most interesting exhibition...

For such a small Island we are certainly blessed with a superb programme of events and exhibitions.

As always I thank you for your visit, continuing support and comments.  A very warm welcome to new followers I hope you enjoy my little adventures through life.

See you soon.

  1. How incredible that all those lines and nets are made into something beautiful. I see you have had a busy week with shopping and making. Have a lovely weekend.

  3. I am so inspired and intrigued by the those articles made of "found" objects! How do they collect it? I'm glad to see someone pulling it out of the sea. Do they EVER find vintage glass floats on the beach there? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  5. The weather patterns are certainly changing as we get closer to spring. How interesting your program was on the plastic issue that haunts our planet. It's nice to hear something useful is being done with it. ♥

  6. The sun coming through the clouds is so dramatic and the fresh snow is lovely. It's great that there is an art exhibit to call attention to all the plastic pollution in our beautiful seas.

  7. I love to watch snow falling too. Your weather is sure changeable. Ours tends to change from light rain to heavy downpour but today we finally had a clear day ( only a few degrees above freezing, but clear skies!). We made the most of it.

  8. Once you explained 'ghost gear' it made sense because it reminded me of 'ghost ships'. What a relevant and timely exhibition for a coastal community. The whole 'ghost gear' awareness campaign needs to go worldwide and your blog is obviously helping that. Such an interesting exhibition. Thanks for bringing it to us on line.

  12. I was just telling my husband that I wish we lived where we could do things like this. We are in the middle of no where, and near the big city (actually between two) where it's college town USA. I'm on the hunt for something for us to do this winter (inexpensive). It's been too cold here lately to really get out and enjoy ourselves.

  13. Our snow is not coming and going....it is coming and coming and coming. It just keeps getting deeper and every day I have to get out and shovel my driveway. I will be happy to see a few days without it.

  14. Wow, all those beautiful things made from debris. I saw on Youtube a company in Mexico is making cheap affordable houses out of recycled plastic.

  15. What a fascinating exhibition! Maybe we should save the detritus we pick up from the beach and try to make something arty with it, instead of putting it in the bin!!
