A Quick Catch Up

I am back from my adventures in England, back in our cosy cottage on the Isle of Lewis.  We have been back since late Tuesday but we needed a rest after our travels.  There was also a lot of laundry to catch up on and a lot of goodies in the garden to harvest and prepare for the freezer.  We now have a selection of beans to keep us going for several months.  It is a good feeling.

Sadly the spammers have been having quite the time of it whilst I have been away.  I am saddened that this goes on and have managed to delete the majority of the comments.

We have had quite the adventure visiting with my parents and our three daughters and their little families.  How those grandchildren of ours have grown and grown up but still wanted to have fun with Granny.  We visited many parks in all their guises and enjoyed a couple of farms.  Although mask wearing is not compulsory now in England we found that most people still observed both the mask wearing and social distancing so we felt very safe.  We did test a couple of times a week as a precaution and have tested twice since our return to protect our neighbours.  So far we have all negative results and are thankful.

I did manage a little shopping too, so have topped up on the craft supplies particularly the card making things that I wanted in readiness for Christmas.  It was a delight to be browsing the aisles in the stores although I did notice a big difference in the prices.  My goodness the prices have shot up since my last visit to the mainland.  There is also a lot of talk about shortages, which is a worry.  I am glad that I have a large store cupboard and freezer.

A highlight of our time away was meeting up with Betsy and her husband Dennis in London, a blogger friend from America.  We had such a lovely time together, it was as if we known each other all our lives.  The time we spent together just flew by with no awkward silences, it was a real joy to meet up with them.  Betsy was over attending the wedding of her son so it was a wonderful chance for us to catch up.

This is a quick catch up post to let you know that I am back and well, so I will close for now and start sorting through the hundreds of photos so that I can make a scrap book of our adventures.  The memories will keep me going for quite a while.

As always I thank you for your uplifting  comments and support.  I will be around to visit and catch up as soon as I can.

See you soon.

  1. Glad you were able to get your craft supplies. Yes, price hikes and reducing stock. Wonder if your prices and shelves are similar there?

  2. I'm glad you are back home safe and sound and have some happy family memories stowed away. I agree with you about price hikes - everything, from food and drink, to building supplies, puppies, ponies, houses, clothing - all sky high now.

No obvious shortages here on the shelves, although hot days and Bank Holiday weekends wipe out bottled water, bottles of Coke and ice cream.

I bet you went a little wild with your crafting supplies and I wouldn't blame you one BIT!

Glad you had a lovely meet up with your blogger friend. I once met a (former!) penpal of mine, who had moved from California to Alaska because of her husband's job in oil. He was lovely - she was a miserable so-and-so and I was happy to let the relationship via email just fade away.

  3. It gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling to hear you say that you were tested frequently, so as not to put your friends and family, and neighbours at risk. People like you are a rare breed. I wish more people thought like you. Meanwhile in Canada, we are still wearing masks, and I will continue while this pandemic is still going on.

  5. Yes was saddened to see the horrid spammers. Welcome back, so glad you had a wonderful time.
… yes things are variable in respect to prices and availability. We are still in lockdown with no cases, I thank God for the latter, but not the government for the former.
Thanks for Sharing, God bless and keep you safe, and all those you love, prayer hugs Shaz in Oz.x

  14. So glad to hear that you had a nice holiday with your parents and grandchildren. I wish people around me were more caring and still wore their masks and observed social distance. Unfortunately the incidence of the virus is increasing here again. Looking forward to seeing your photos.

  15. How wonderful was your holiday!!! I am glad that things went well.

Like you I did a mini stock up (much easier for me to get to the larger city) on craft supplies and was amazed at the rising costs. That and the fact that very little was on sale which has never happened to me before.

    God bless.

  27. It is good to hear that you had a good time meeting up with your family! And that it is good to be back home. I have been busy and are behind visiting blogs, and my own blogging. So it is very nice to have time to "visit" blogging friends again!

  28. Your posts always lift me up. you sound happy, and thankful in everything you do!! All the masking mandates were lifted for the summer months, so it felt like freedom for a while. Seems with the variant, people are fearful again...and even with the vaccine, there is widespread insecurities. We will keep plugging along. Summer is fading away here. I am holding on to the season as long as I can. So happy that you were able to spend time with your loved ones. Meeting up with a blogging friend is always special! Thank you for leaving your nice comment at the Lakehouse blog. I appreciate your kindness. Debbie xxoo

  29. So glad you had a good time with your family and are now back home in your cozy cottage. How fun to meet a blogging friend, too. I've always enjoyed meeting up with other bloggers.
Do you have do-it-yourself Covid test kits? That would be a good idea. We are going away for a couple of weeks and I don't want to endanger my grandchildren when we return. So much transmission is through asymptomatic cases. We continue to wear masks when in indoor public spaces (like stores, offices, etc). Seems like common sense these days.
Stocking up on craft supplies is a great idea. And food, too. Who knows what will come this autumn/winter?
    Take good care, Lorraine.

I look forward to seeing your photographs once you've had time to get sorted.

    Take care, my good wishes.

    All the best Jan

  31. That's nice that you could meet with your family again ! I haven't seen my son and grandson for ages ! They were on holidays and then school started in Holland too.It seems that London is the meeting point of Bloggers, I have met one of South Africa, one of Australia, and two from London ! Really wonderful to have friends all over the world. Mr. G. is not so well, but it's like a roller coaster, one day OK one day not !

  33. Hello Lorraine, What can I say!! How lucky you were to be able to meet Betsy and Dennis! What fun! I have seen the lovely photos Betsy has posted on her blog! I so envy you! I have finally been able to get together with all my Spanish family from near and far for a full day. It was heaven and we had so much to talk about. I know just how you feel, so glad you enjoyed your holiday with your family and parents. I am sure you have had a wonderful time. The majority of people continue to wear masks here too outside although that restriction has been lifted. Keep well Amanda x

  35. Welcome home, Lorraine, it was so nice to see this new post to let us all know you had a wonderful and safe time visiting family. Also nice that you were able to meet up[ with a blogger friend as we did recently as well here in NH. And always fun to go shopping too, but prices are sadly higher for many things now with lots of shortages as well, except for hand sanitizers, masks and such. Spammers should find better things to do than annoy, but sadly 😟do not.

  36. Welcome back. Adventures are wonderful, especially when they involve family, but there's no place like home, I think. Yes, prices have shot up and there are shortages too. Sigh. x

  38. Because the Uig to Tarbert ferry had an oil leak 'The Clansman' came to the rescue, which meant adjusting our plans but serendipitous really, Stornoway has become so multicultural and had a delightful ride around Lewes Castle grounds.
