Five on Friday

A busy week in the craft room having fun.  Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at Mamas Mercantile.  I have so far resisted putting on the Christmas music but its not far off.  I have been browsing several books and magazines and found some stunning tree decorations that I thought would make beautiful gift toppers.  A mix of styles but each beautiful so I have had some fun this week making toppers for my gifts.

One

Victorian Style Paper Fan

These were fun to make using some vintage style scrapbook paper and than a variety of embellishments used such as feathers, pearl strands, bows and mini cones.

Two

Lace Nosegay Ornament

They look so pretty and detailed and yet are quite simple to make.  Stitch along the top of lace and gather into a tight circle, once the lace is arranged embellish as desired.  I added some sparkly roses, pearl strands feathers and had some real fun with them.  They will look impressive on the top of a gift and then on a tree.

Three

Lavender Ball Ornament

I actually used some of the lavender that I dried from our garden which pleased me.  A circle of tulle is filled with lavender tied with a ribbon and little flowers and pearl strands added.

Four

Wooden Ornaments

A selection that my husband has cut out and painted.  Christmas stamps used and burlap used for bows.  Natural twine for hanging them and oddments to embellish.  Simple but effective.  Names stamped onto some to make them more personal.

Five

Jingle Bells

Finally some Christmas ribbon tied onto some large bells for the children.  Transfers added to them but their are endless  ways to enhance a bell just add bits and pieces and see what develops.  I have had some great fun with them.

I am once again joining the lovely Amy for the Friday link up lovemademyhome.blogspot.co.uk/ Hope you will pop over and enjoy some fun posts.

See you soon.

  2. I'm so pleased that I'm not the only one who's already 'doing' Yule stuff. (We celebrate Yule, not Christmas. It's four days earlier and that's my excuse for starting early!) I love the bells, and the little nosegays. I might steal those ideas!

  28. I think I finally understand why your blog is called Mamas Mercantile...duh! The really amazing thing is that you are so far ahead of the rest of us who always vow to get started early, but actually never do. Love the jingle bells if I had to choose a favorite.

  35. You know, I've found the earlier I start with Christmas prep, and the more leisurely I go, the happier I am! So start cranking those Christmas tunes! We sure are here! And everything you create is amazing, my friend. Happy Weekend!

  36. Turn on the Christmas music, I say! At least in the car. Just kind of ease into it. Wait until Thanksgiving is over to turn it on in the house! I love your embellishments. Such nice gift toppers, and Christmas tree ornies afterwards. Great idea! And I love that you got the books out! When I saw your post, I thought...wait a minute...that's MY post! There's just something about sitting down with a good old-fashioned book, perusing the pages for ideas. Have a great weekend.

Already made my cake and have my planning sheets, sad I know, printed out and mainly filled in. I'm thinking about some homemade gifts for teachers etc. Jingle Bells are a-coming! My music goes on when I am putting the decorations up in the kitchen on December 1st. Eeeek can't wait!x
