Weekend Magic

A quiet but very nice weekend, spent with good food and good company.  We treated ourselves to a large joint of Scottish beef and enjoyed it with all the trimmings of a roast dinner.  Followed by a sherry trifle, I am still full...

The craft room is starting to look a lot like Christmas, with signs of the season all over.  I really must go in there today and make a start of storing some of these things away.  It is a lovely feeling to know that each gift is made filled with love, however small.  I have a large family which now include great nephews and nieces, so we took the decision to stop buying gifts several years ago.  Only cards are exchanged along with a  preserve or such.  This year I am going to pop tissues and cover into some envelopes.

A nice addition to your handbag for the month of December.  I see most of my family early in the month and so will be a useful addition.

I  made each of the Grandchildren a Christmas sack for their first Christmas and they are brought out each year and lovingly filled by the family.  Santa leaves gifts under the tree.  It will be Hectors and Honeys first Christmas so consequently I made their sacks yesterday.  All ready to be filled with love.

I used a stencil to make the letters out of felt and then hand stitched them onto the Christmas fabric.  All ready for those magical moments.    Hope you all had a wonderful weekend and you too had some magical moments.

See you soon.

  1. The Christmas sacks are lovely and will last a lifetime. My girls still get their presents in the sacks I made for their first Christmases over twenty years ago.

  4. I love those sacks. We always had the tradition of putting out the sacks on Christmas eve before the kids went to bed but their sacks were nowhere near as special as these ones.

  8. I love your tissue holders, what lovely gifts, and I think every child should have a lovely large santa sack to be filled at Christmas time. I've been hand making Christmas gifts for a fair few years now as I also have a large family........sometimes I cut it a bit fine with the deadlines but it's so worth it and so much fun.

  9. You are so well organized. I like the Santa sacks. Our family is far-flung and not close in any sense of the word. We exchange gifts with Mac's brother and wife and I exchange with one sister, gifting the other one, but knowing there will be nothing in return. Our daughter always comes home for Christmas and that's the best present of all.

  12. Your meal sounded wonder and such a nice idea with the tissue holders. Now the sacks, love the idea and reading the comments sounds like most are used for Santa, do you use that way? Or do you use them for family gifts?

  13. My daughter, who is 33 and Jewish ..., has decided that when we go to London next month, she will buy an advent calendar there. Sometimes, Christmas is so irresistible ! Your envelopes look beautiful; the one with the blue baubles is worthy of a Hermès scarf. As for the mention of trifle, oh my God ( of any faith) ! xxx

  25. My goodness you are really a very busy girl ! and such beautiful things ! I still don't think about Christmas, anyway I only have one gift to buy for my little grandson, my son has married a Dutch girl and they don't celebrate Christmas, so it's not as it used to be. I think Holland is the only country which doesn't decorate (or very poorly) for Christmas ! Not even in Amsterdam.

  26. Reading Gattina's comment I was surprised to learn that Christmas is not celebrated much in Holland.
All those lovely preparations you're making make me want to get in the Christmas mood. You inspire the rest of us.

  30. I don't like thinking about Christmas this soon in the year, but if you are planning on making handcrafted gifts you have to get a head start on it. I admire you for starting your projects . . . hopefully you will have more of the hard work done in time to kick back and enjoy the holidays :) Last year this time of year, I was making a Christmas quilt for my husband. Thank you for visiting my blog and for leaving your get well wishes. I truly appreciate it :)

  31. Gifts need not be expensive, thoughtful, but not expensive. Your gift of time to create is the greater value. Love the bag idea and may have to go with something similar for my much older grands.

  33. Lovely makes for Christmas gifts. We haven't any little ones in our family. Our adult grandchildren are single and getting on with their careers, but one day we might be great grands if they settle down to married life! Seasonal celebrations when there are small children around are so special. The Christmas sacks are lovely.
