Five on Friday

Last week I shared with you my yarn stash, this week I intend to show you my button haul and the places that I display/hide them.  I have an extensive collection of buttons which is one of my great loves.  My son - in - law says I own all the buttons in Lincolnshire and teases me constantly about them and yet sits with me and helps me sort them into colour pots, I am sure he is a secret button lover.  I suggest you hurry back Mike as I have another pot that needs sorting.

This is the button collection in all its glory.  What a wonderful sight!

Number one storage solution is glass jars.

I have 16 glass jars which have been sorted into colours, with the exception of the jar with the burlap which is mixed and waiting to be sorted.

Number two is the Cath Kidston button tins that were bought for me as gifts feeding my passion for both buttons and Cath Kidston.

The top picture shows the buttons that came with the tin, a real mixture of sizes and pastels.

Number three is the small jars that have been little gifts and are a delight, adding a little charm to the collection.

Number four is the rather large plastic boxes, there are 15 of them.  They have been sorted in to colours, as well as wooden toggles and vintage buttons on cards.  They do need an alternative storage solution as they are not very attractive and detract from the beauty of the button itself.

Finally my number five is wooden canisters  that I stuff buttons into, usually vintage buttons or those that I consider special.

I hope you have enjoyed your little tour around my five storage solutions to my button collection.  I have surprised myself how many I have.  I am once again joining in with Amy at Love Made my Home for The Five on Friday link up.  Why not pop over and join in the fun.

I am having a giveaway to celebrate 100 followers , today is the last day so don't forget to leave me a comment on the giveaway post.

See you soon.

  1. My goodness - that is a lot of buttons. However you can reassure your son-in-law that there is a Lincolnshire reserve button collection at Caistor - sadly not as big as yours but still more than I am ever likely to use Buttons are there to be hoarded and cherished and, as a last resort, used.

  2. I don't think I've ever seen so many buttons!! I feel a lot better about my very small collection of buttons, I thought I was amassing too many, but looking at yours......well I can happily carry on collecting. Sarah

  3. Wow you do have a lot of buttons, I love buttons too and thought that I had a lot but nothing compared to you, do you find though that when you need a button for a certain project you never have the one's you need and have to buy even more. Have a great weekend. :)

  5. There's something very soothing about sorting buttons. When I was little, one of my favourite treats was playing with my Mum's button tin. It must be heavenly for you to have so many buttons to play with.

  10. OOH! I adore buttons too. However, my collection is not nearly as extensive as yours! My mother probably has the same amount as you. She knits sweaters by the truckload and loves to have millions of buttons to choose from when it's time to add the buttons. In fact, when she wants more, she buys them by the kilogram from a button manufacture in Toronto!! She doesn't display them as prettily as you do though!

  23. Wow, you certainly have a LOT of buttons!!!! You are definitely a button fan!!! You have some great ways to store them though and it is good that you keep them by colour as I always have to trawl through all of mine - not that I have as many as you! 26. Oh I love this collection, I would love to have a collection of my own, this is a bit odd because I'm not very crafty, but I love buttons. My skills stretch to changing the buttons of outfits. I love your storage solutions xx

  28. Buttons are fun but I don't have a need for them right now. I do have a bit of a stash though, in a round tin. My mom used to have hers in a Christmas card box and I loved to go through it. I don't know what ever happened to it. Maybe my sis has it as she has mom's sewing machine. Or in some stuff I have. Congrats on so many followers! Have a good weekend!

  33. Gosh, you do have a lot of buttons, and so many ways of displaying/storing them too. I remember as a child I loved to sit on the hearth rug at my grandma's house sorting through her button tin which I think was an old biscuit tin:)

  34. I just love those Cath Kidston button containers!! They look like books. You just reminded me of something. Back in the day, when I opened my first Etsy shop, one of the first things I ever sold was a class jar filled with buttons. I sold it to a lady in England as a matter of fact!! LOL!! Buttons are like candy for the eyes and you can never have too many of them!! : ) Have a beautiful weekend!! xo
