A quiet but pleasant weekend, we enjoyed the company of my younger sister, niece and great niece for a couple of hours. It was lovely to see them interact with each other they have such a bond. We had lots of laughs ploughing through some of the old photos reminiscing, which is always a lot of fun. There was a definite mix of bad haircuts and dodgy outfits, but lots of laughter.
We visited Mum and Dad and took down some of the baking that I had done, Dad is a great fan of my pastry so everything was pastry based. I am trying to get some weight back onto him he has lost so much. He loves having the little ones visit, they have 21 Great Grandchildren to love and spoil.
Saturday was fine but still a little cool so we went for the usual walk around the car boot sale at Stickney. Some of the prices always make me wonder, how little some things are valued and then the other end of the scale the over pricing of some things. One mans rubbish is another mans treasure, or so the saying goes.
Local farms sell a lot of fruit and veg at the sale, that do not meet the quality standards for the supermarket in that it is misshapen or not the right size. This makes it all bargain prices but with the same fresh grown taste, so I always buy for the week.
I got lucky once again with the craft materials.
Scrapbook paper, embellishments, an acrylic stamp and a balloon punch for the total price of £2.50. I was impressed with it all.
A chives plant for the herb garden for 50p, I thought that was a real bargain.
2 very large ceramic dogs bowls for £3. Finally 2 old busts for my craft room.
They were very dirty and the metal on them rusty but it was love at first sight. I tentatively asked the price and was told 50p each. I got them both, they will be wonderful for my craft room when they are cleaned up.
A little bit more work is needed on the rust, but all in all they are looking quite good amongst my crafting treasures. I had thought about decoupage to give them a trendy new look, but you know what I love them as they are. I do need to have a little sort out to find them a permanent home but for now they are sitting pretty. Did you manage to find any treasure over the weekend?
See you soon.
Wow, such wonderful treasures. The busts were a real bargain at 50p each.
ReplyDeleteI am so envious of people who go to boot sales. Most are on Sunday mornings which is when I earn a little bit to supplement the pension but they look like great fun and great value.
ReplyDeleteWhat a big family you have!...your dad is great grandfather to 21 great grandchildren...what a blessed family! Must be fun to come together!

I agree great deals there. The weather was terrible on Saturday with thunderstorms so I am guessing all the yard sales would have been a washout.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your salt and pepper shakers behind the chives, in blue!
ReplyDeleteGreat loot - and for next to nothing! Love those dog bowls.
ReplyDeleteso nice that you visited your mom and dad, I cannot believe how many great grands they have!! Love the finds you picked up while shopping!
ReplyDeleteMama, could you nip across and read my reply to your comment on my blog, please. TIA

ReplyDeleteYou found some real treasures at the car boot sale! I would have grabbed those two busts for my sewing room too. You make me want to go to some yard sales. :)
ReplyDeleteCool finds ... the busts kind of creep me out a bit and remind me of the mannequins on Dr. Who! Love the dog bowls, something I've been looking for to keep outside in summertime for the pooch.

Good scores at the boot sale.
ReplyDeleteI did see one "garage sale", but had to pass on by. :-( We were on our way to someone's party and didn't want to be late.
I actually love the ceramic models and think you should keep them as is.. they are very architectural and look very cool. I did get some pearl earrings - hubby didn't get me anything for my birthday, anniversary or mother's day! So, I found some earrings online and told him how he owed me something. LOL! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteOnly things I sought out was strawberries that my daughter actually got since I wasn't feeling good enough to be out. I like your finds. i am better today and back to work! Sigh! :0-
