100 Followers Giveaway and Car Boot Treasure

Drum roll please....and the winners are...

Janet from Yellow Pink and Sparkly and Mrs Tiggywinkle from A Shropshire Patch, if you could email me at mamasmercantile1@gmail.com with your address I will get your little parcels in the post.

Thank you all so much for your wonderful comments, I appreciate every single one.

My husband and I took the birthday girl (my sweet Mum) for a stroll around the car boot sale this morning and are meeting up later for afternoon tea.  I managed to get vegetables from an allotment holder this morning selling some of her surplus so it was all at bargain prices.

The turnips were 10p each and the rhubarb 30p a bunch, I bought several to put into the freezer.

I once again managed to get 3 more games to add to the nursery for the children.  £2 for all 3 with all of them in perfect condition and complete.

These rubber animals were a bargain at 20p each so I picked up £2 worth to add to the box, the children have a tendency to take them home with them so I am always topping off the box when they are at bargain prices.

Finally, a baby's crib...no there is not another baby on the way.  We picked it up for the bargain price of £4.  We bought it for the wood, it is  solid pine and we want to upcycle it into a dressing up box, we couldn't buy wood for that price.  Watch this space...

Did you bag a bargain today?

I was asked to show my favourite/special buttons after my five on Friday post yesterday so here they are... another drum roll please...

Here are some of my favourite buttons, they are quite large vintage buttons that I use when I am making cushions.  They all have a story and some special memories of places and people I bought them from.

A very warm welcome to my new followers, I hope you enjoy my little adventures and pop in now and again for a visit, the kettle is always on but I am cutting back a little on the cake and biscuits.

See you soon.

    1. Sorry I wasn't clear. Its is going to be made into a dressing up clothes box, a storage box/rail for the children's dressing up outfits.

  20. I am chuffed to bits, thank you! We have had a giggle over your very retro way of picking the winners - so fancy electronic random generator-thingy for you, then. And thank you for sharing your special buttons with us. My husband's grandmother left my daughter her button tin and she cherishes it. Her favourite's are the ones which came off great-grandfather's naval uniform. x

  21. I take it a "boot sale" is where folks sell things from the trunk of their cars?? How fun! I noticed the rhubarb...and I keep seeing it everywhere I look. I must go find me some and make a pie or cobbler! I do love the vintage buttons. My mom had a drawer full when I was little and I loved playing in them!

  22. congrats to the winners. Also well done on the great deals you picked.

Another question, which is your most valuable (monetary) button (s) and which are your most valuable button (s) sentimental/personal wise?

    1. The most valuable I would guess would be some Bakelite Buttons which were the first completely synthetic plastic used for buttons. The most valuable as in personal buttons are a couple of sets I have from both mine and my husbands military uniforms, which are actually stored in my jewellery box along with our army cap badges.

  27. Congratulations to the winners of your celebration giveaway. I have recently discovered your blog (via Amy). I love your button collection and funnily some of those buttons are familiar to me too! Just goes to show what a small world it is. The silver and black ones remind me of the buttons I had on a coat as a youngster, the navy ones could be mine or maybe they were inherited and the dark pink one mid way on the right definitely matches some I bought for a cardigan that was never finished - and is still in my cupboard.

Your vegetables from the allotment were certainly a bargain, price wise and also better than any from the shops!

Lovely blog, I'll certainly be back to visit again. Barbara xx
