Yarn Along

I gave up with the scarf using the ribbon yarn I really didn't like the feeling of it against my skin it was too harsh, so it will become bags for my 2 granddaughters.  In the meantime I have finally  used one of my vintage patterns to crochet a doily.  The colours I used are quite bright but I wanted it to have a bit of a modern twist so that it could be used when I do afternoon tea and not look old fashioned.

There are a few mistakes, that I didn't notice until I pinned it to be blocked.  Overall I was a little disappointed with the end result, its not as striking as I thought it was going to be.  I wanted a more vibrant effect.  Maybe I should do another one, this could be become quite addictive.  The one thing that seems to be going by the wayside at the moment is the reading, I tend to crochet to relax and can't manage to read and crochet I might give these audio books a try.  I am reading Voyage on the Great Titanic The Diary of Margaret Anne Brady, 1912 written by Ellen Emerson White.  It is slow going so I haven't formed an opinion yet

I have once again joinedGinny over at Small Things for the yarn-along.

See you soon.

  1. It is pretty. I like the way it turned out. I really would like to learn to do some of these things. I have a little embroidery experience and that is it.

  2. I cannot see any mistakes, but I appreciate that we are all critical of our own work! I think that it looks great!! If you are unhappy with it you will have to have fun making another one, and another one and, well, you get the idea!! xx

Did you use lace weight wool? It looks delicate and very pretty.

  7. This is so beautiful and intricate. Not at all old fashioned. I want to make a bright orange doily for my living room. I made my first doily last year and I now regard them as feats of engineering! You should be pleased with your handy work :)

  8. I love using vintage patterns. In the process of packing for moving I recently found some of my mothers old dress making patterns from the 1940's. Your doily looks very complicated and I can't see any mistakes.
    Happy crocheting

  13. Well, I would be happy happy happy if I could create something as pretty as this. I am just not good with crochet or knitting. Other crafts and sewing yes, needles no! Thanks for visiting my blog.
I also loved the pictures of your grandson!

  14. I've found the same problem with ribbon yarn...it's not comfy against the skin. So, mine continues to sit in the stash. I hope to find something good to use it for someday because it's so pretty. I love making doilies...especially with colorful and thicker yarn. I wonder if yours might pop more with one more color around the edge....maybe a bright/rich pink? Just a thought. I'm trying to be more adventurous with color. So, that idea popped in my head. Happy crocheting! :-D

  18. lovely doily! Bummer about the ribbon yarn not feeling great in your hands. With knitting I can knit and read as long as it is dead simple.

  19. Hi, thanks so much for visiting my blog, now I have popped round to you! Have really enjoyed looking round at all your lovely craft creations and I shall be back! Interested to note that you would like to live in the Western Isles. I spent some of my teenage years there, a very remote and unique landscape and lifestyle X
