A Rare Day In The Garden

Red sky at night, Shepherd delight or so the old saying goes so when I snapped this red sky Tuesday evening I was hopeful for a good day Wednesday.

I was not disappointed , and rose to a beautiful morning perfect for making a start in the garden.  The lawns have now been cut, they were a bit of a struggle as they were still a little wet.  All the pots have been weeded and a good start has been made on the vegetable plot.  There is an area of gravel by the drive that seems to have more weeds than anything else but that will have to wait for another day.  Let me take you on a little stroll around the pots, they are a delight at this time of year.

It is such a delight to sit and take tea surrounded by so much beauty.  The table and chairs are in need of a little work but I am saving that for another day.  These old bones have had enough for one day.

The herbs are doing well and are starting their process of regrowth.  I have lots of packets of seeds which I will start off once I can get some of the seedlings out of the house.  Thus adding to the wide variety that I now have.

The rhubarb is growing at a great pace and I will be able to harvest some shortly.  Rhubarb and ginger jam is high on the agenda along with rhubarb crumble.

I have taken a chance and planted out some lettuce, lollo rossa but the forecast is predicting more frost over the weekend.  All I can do is sit back and wait.

Still a long way to go, but a start has been made.  The peas have now been sown and tomorrow is another day.  I need to sit down and warm up, although it appears sunny it is still cool.

See you soon.

  10. In America we say "Red sky at night, sailor's delight." Well at least that's how I learned it. :) Your pots of flowers look lovely as do the herbs. It's a bit too early to plant here for the most part. They say not to plant anything too fragile until mid May here in the northeast. It's our first spring in our new house so we have no idea what's going to pop up next in our gardens. More greenery than flowers. I much prefer the flowers so I think a lot of things are going to be removed at some point. xo

  11. We have had lovely weather this past week also. A change is forecast for tomorrow and the next week with cooler, rainy weather. I also spent Wednesday in the yard, weeding, trimming bushes and Hubby mowed. It felt SO good to be back outside as I didn't do much at all last year. I haven't taken the leap to plant anything yet as the general rule here is that you don't plant until after Mother's Day in May. We're fairly high in altitude and frost is a real threat to new plants. Have a lovely weekend my friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  15. I just bought three stalks of rhubarb at the grocery store, and admire that you have some growing nicely for you in your own garden...something I have not tried so far. It looks like you are making good progress on your gardening. We have had a few record breaking warm days here and now are expecting cooler rainy days for a bit. Happy Spring! xx

  16. Funny that Teresa mentioned Chocolate mint because just yesterday I was making a list of what I wanted to buy when I visit the plant shop and I put down choc. mint. I wonder if it will be as invasive as regular mint.

Your pots are all looking very healthy. Hope you get lots more sunny days.
