This And That

We had a few days of snow, which made for a beautiful Winter Wonderland.  It was a treat to wake up and see everywhere white and untouched.  A delight to know that the gritter had been by so it would be relatively safe to drive if needed.

The storm did bring with it some strong winds which knocked down most of our gates and a window in the outbuilding.  More jobs to add to the list once the weather picks up.  As you can see from the photo, the windows are in dire need of cleaning.  Top of the list for when the weather calms down.  The snow didn't last long but it was fun to reminisce about snow days when our daughters were younger and the fun we had when they didn't have to go to school.

The mornings are bringing some stunning skies, along with some substantial rain but not a problem when we don't have to go out.  We are warm and cosy with the stove lit and have plenty of hobbies to keep us busy.  We do feel blessed and are thankful for our craft supplies.

Work on the dolls house continues, the lighting is now in place.  The roof and ridge tile is now complete.  We have started to explore the flooring and decoration, doing a little research in the process.  It is so nice working together on something.  We have also made plans and the inevitable list for the garden.

Work on the 'doorstep blessings' continue.  I have made some tissue holders and lavender bags for this weeks contribution.

The idea is to let the recipient know they are not alone and are been thought of during this time of Covid.  It is a Church initiative that I am supporting.  It is in itself a gift for me too as it is giving me something to work on.  I didn't do any baking this week as I am trying to lose a few pounds and it is too much of a temptation to have goodies in the cake tin.  Chicken and fish has featured in a lot of our meals this week thus far, with plenty of vegetables and salad.  We have a healthy balanced diet in the main but of late a lack of exercise is becoming  a problem.  At least we are aware of it and can make a few changes.  Has the lockdown made a difference to you with your weight?

The baby blanket nears completion, the squares are now complete.  It needs to be stitched together and the ends sewn in.  Finally the border will complete it.  I must admit it has been a joy to sit and crochet a couple of squares a day, it was quite amazing how quickly it grew.  I do like to have a crochet project on the go.

What are you working on?

Hope all is well with you and that you are able to keep yourself amused in these difficult times.  Take care and stay safe.

See you soon.

  4. Good morning Lorraine. We've had more snow last night and it's predicted every day for the rest of the week. Not large amounts, just annoying for Dennis to drive to work in.
Your projects are all so nice. I especially like the tissue covers. How nice of you to do this. I know a lot of people are really starting to feel the stress of staying inside after almost a year and being winter too. At least in the summer you can get out and walk or be in the outdoors and distance yourself. I have definitely seen a weight gain this year. I'm working on it, but nothing seems to be happening.
I pray you and Gerard stay safe and well.
    Blessings and love,
    Betsy

  5. I do like the idea of the doorstep blessings, how lovely for someone to receive to help lift their spirits. I think this time must be particularly difficult for those that live on their own. I’ve managed to lose a few pounds during lockdown through meal planning and eating carefully, it helps that I’m not a great fan of cakes and biscuits but I do love to bake.
Knitting and crochet is keeping my hands active and my mind busy too, I really don’t know what I’d do without it. Your blanket is going to look so pretty.

  8. I certainly have seen a change in weight since the lockdowns started and also retiring. I was so busy before and walked everywhere. I am still not back to my pre-covid weight but I am working on it. I make it an obligation to go out everyday for a walk! Doorstep blessings the name alone is fascinating! It is such a great idea and must bring joy to many :-) You are a crafting marvel...I just love to see all those different makes, such a variety. keep well Amanda x

  10. What a lovley idea to help people feel included.
I think both Covid and Winter have contributed to eating more, comfort nursery food, warming casseroles etc....all help to put weight on!

  13. The church initiative is a thoughtful response to the challenges of this time and it helps knit a community together. What beautiful skies you've been experiencing lately! It sounds as if you're both enjoying the shared doll's house project. I get the sense that despite the changeable, stormy weather outside you are keeping busy in your cosy cottage.

  14. Lovely sky pictures! The wind must have been fierce to knock down gates and even take out a window. Luckily your home has withstood many storms in the past and will continue to keep you safe and snug.

I'm working away on my Meadow blanket and have a few other things I want to make. All in good time. Stay safe and well. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  17. I'm working on another quilt and Valentine's Day cards. Beautiful sky photos. I lost 39 pounds before COVID... I've found 19 of them. Exercise is also much needed here. WE used to walk but arthritis in my feet has kept our walking to a minimum.

  18. Hubby and I have added a few pounds during the pandemic also. We are looking forward to warmer weather to allow for more consistent outdoor walking. Your morning skies are beautiful. I love the idea of "doorstep blessings".

  21. You are certainly keeping occupied and for a lovely purpose too. We are still unpacking - haven't reached/found my sewing machine yet, but found Tam's - in a box which had been put (dumped) upside-down! Love the sunsets.

  22. You certainly didn't die of boredom ! You have made wonderful craftwork ! Here too it had snowed and it remained a day and then it was gone. We also had a terrible storm but here no dammages. We haven't put on weight, we eat as usual no changes at all.

  23. Beautiful skies and snow go so well together. I've had to step up the exercise indoors with some zumba from YouTube which is a really cheerful way to keep fit and eat smaller meals. Keep up the good work with your crafting.

  24. I like the cute tissue holders and lavender bags. It is nice to stay indoor when it is warm and comfortable doing your indoor craft projects. The lockdown has made a big difference in my weight because being at home most of the time makes me want to eat. I think I better not buy anymore snacks. Lol!

  32. I love that you are doing these little gifts it is so nice! The blanket is looking lovely I can picture it sewn up already. It amazes me when people say they have no hobbies I think 'how can you not have anything you want to do?' We are fortunate we can use our hands. Take care of yourselves. x

  33. Pretty skies, and such a lovely baby blanket. I am currently working on a shawl but I have come to a halt. I realized I need one more skein of yarn to finish it and it’s not available until late March. Rats! I love the fabric you used for your little Covid giveaways. They are going to make someone smile I’m sure.

  36. I have been watching what I've been eating since Christmas. I think the stress of Covid contributed to weight gain, along with the inactivity many experienced. I'm slowly getting back to a weight I'm happy with. Your doorstep gifts are such a wonderful idea.

  39. Glad the weather didn't cause too much damage or inconvenience, Lorraine. We had some snow this past eek and possibly more next week. The doorstep blessings are so colorful and surely most appreciated. We have also cut down on baking for similar reasons, but I did make a loaf of bread this week to accompany some freshly made butternut/carrot squash soup!

  41. This will make a beautiful baby blanket a lot of fun.
Yes and it is fun to make something for others, a good idea with the handkerchief pouches ... I sew small bags and purses to go with them.
Have a happy weekend. Many greetings Viola
