My goodness the weather locally has been foul for the past few days. So bad, that the ferry has been cancelled on some of the sailings. The ferry was in dock when we went over to town this morning. Even the freight ferry was cancelled, so I do wonder if there will be shortages in the supermarket.
On the drive over to town this morning we encountered, rain, sleet, snow and a few moments of hailstones. Quite the mixture, with dark overcast skies which made everything look quite gloomy.
Winter is still very much part of our Island with no signs of Spring to be seen. I like this time of year when we hunker down in front of the stove and watch the flames flickering as we warm ourselves. Time to rest the body and soothe the soul with a few craft projects, a good book or film and good company. That is what we miss the most with this pandemic the company of others but I am hopeful that the Spring will enable us to meet up once more. I am eagerly awaiting the green buds bursting through the soil of the daffodils heralding its arrival. I am hopeful that the roll out of the vaccine will slow the virus down and see an end to the many restrictions that are in place. Not that I am complaining, we are better off than some around the Country.
It was, as always a delight to browse the fishing/commercial boats along with the pleasure boats in the harbour. The castle seen in the background now that the trees are bare.
Unusual to see the ferry in dock with no lines of vehicles awaiting to get onboard. There seems to be a lot of cancellations and sadly a lack of passengers due to the travel restrictions, it must have such a negative effect on so many peoples livelihoods.
A wonderful couple of hours out getting a blasting of fresh air with a nice walk and getting essential provisions. The drive back was equally as uplifting with a beautiful rainbow and a mixture of weather elements thrown at us.
It made a change to be out and about a little, but so nice to be back in our cosy little cottage with the stove lit. Time to put my feet up for awhile with a warming cup of hot tea and a buttered crumpet.
Have a wonderful weekend, wherever you may be. Take care and stay safe.
As always I do thank you for your visit and your comments. Cynthia the dolls house is indeed for one of our Grandaughters. I used a little PVA glue on the buttons but they were attached with some coloured natural twine.
See you soon.
Your photos are always so interesting! Have you been doing anymore for your grandson's project?
ReplyDeleteI too enjoy my walks in the cold but it is so lovely to be able to warm up with a hot cup of tea afterwards!
Have a good weekend.
Even in the middle of winter it looks beautiful there.
ReplyDeleteHow far are you from”town”.Is that Stornaway?
ReplyDeleteStay safe and warm .Barbarax
How nice to take a trip to town with you this morning Lorraine. The photos are wonderful and I actually feel as though I have gotten out and about a little bit. Yes indeed, I think many people's incomes have been affected by all of this. I'm hopeful that the vaccines will help us all get back to normal, if we can remember what that is.
ReplyDeleteSeveral of our friends have now received the first vaccine and Dennis is on the list for it but we can't find anywhere for him to get it. None have had reactions to it other than a sore arm. I'm not on the list yet. Dennis is over 65 and considered an essential worker so he is ahead of me.
Meanwhile, I'm enjoying being home. It's not a hardship for me to be home, I just miss family.
Blessings and love to you both.
Betsy
We've had that same weather here but today has been much better so I hope that blue skies are on their way to you very soon.
ReplyDeleteThe weather here has been cloudy many days but without any precipitation, even though it would be nice to have a bit of snow as this is winter. Glad you had a nice outing and being home with a cup of tea sounds very comfortable.
ReplyDeleteI love your photos of the harbour. Quite a nice sunny day here which is a relief after the grey wet days.
ReplyDeleteThose photos made me shiver. I hope you have better weather on the horizon. Enjoy the warmth of your stove.
ReplyDeleteA pleasant day out - thanks for thinking of us who are stuck at home by taking lots of photos and sharing!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a safe day out. Stay well my friend.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you had a good day out.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed seeing your photographs, the harbour and boats are so colourful.
Wishing you a good weekend.
All the best Jan
Loved these photos! We don't see any signs of spring until at least the end of March, but usually it's the middle of April. I'm content to hunker down for another month or two!
ReplyDeleteIt’s a pleasant picture I have in my mind’s eye of the two of you snug and happy before the flickering fire in your cozy cottage.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got out and about, but now are snuggled into your nice warm cottage.
ReplyDeleteI love the boat pictures.
God bless.
A little trip out of the house is good, and then it's always nice to return home to a cozy, warm place. Tea and a crumpet sound delicious. Ferry traffic is much slower here, too, since the pandemic began.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes miss having lived on an island, too. Miss the ferries and the sound of all the buoys and tugs and ships, and of course the ocean! Your area is so pretty despite the wintry weather mix!
ReplyDeleteYou certainly get some wild weather. All kinds in one day!!
ReplyDeleteYour roses are so lovely.
Dear Lorraine, I just received your precious card and wonderful needle book! You are so kind and generous, it's simply wonderful! *T*H*A*N*K* * *Y*O*U*!*!*!* I'm glad you had a nice trip to town, I also need to get out and about a bit. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteA nice day out! Bad weather does add drama to photos. Here it is sunny but it is a false sun - it is very windy and very cold. I tried taking a photo of some crafts and they simply flew away.

Good job you are so well stocked up with the ferries cancelled. It does look so cold but hopefully it won't be too long before the weather improves. Aren't your roses gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI know what it is to live in an island with bad weather and boats unable to come...I'm pretty sure that you will manage to be comfy and with good meal to eat ;)
ReplyDeleteHave a creative weekend !

It looks cold. Hope there is be ample supply of foodstuffs for everyone on the island and that the weather will clear for the ferry to resume their service.
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice drive with photos you shared even with weather that's cold and wet. Sad to read the ferrys aren't always travelling and hope they will again soon. We've had cold nights near freezing lately. A bit of sun during days which is nice. I enjoy having heat thru our heat pump. And cozy blankets for living room. Have a good weekend my friend across the waves ....you and Gerard. God bless. X..Becky
ReplyDeleteOh, those roses are stunning! I'm glad that you have plenty of provisions for the cold weather. It makes all the difference. I just made a pot of tea, myself. Time to throw together a salad...
ReplyDeleteFortunately you are so perfectly organized with a stock of food so you don't have to worry when the ferry doesn't come ! Life on an Island is really special !
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are always so amazing!! I am a Winter person because I love staying in the house with the warm glow of all the lights on...We won't see any signs of Spring until at least April....Thanks so much for stopping by!! Stay safe, healthy and happy!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Debbie
Even thought the weather was at its worst it must have been good to get out and about for a short while especially as you can return to your cosy cottage and the warm fire:)
ReplyDeleteI love your photos of the countryside on your drive!
ReplyDeleteWe too are having 'winter weather'. I much prefer summer and fall :)
What a beautiful trip out to town! Even though the skies were overcast, still you managed to find beauty all around you. I'm so sorry that the situation is so difficult during your lockdown, with the lack of travel, and the effect on livelihoods. I'm thankful you and your husband remain healthy, and cozy! Many blessings to you dear friend :)

ReplyDeletewow, gloomy days but still beautiful photos. We have more cloudy days than sunny but when the sun is out we go for a walk in ridiculously cold weather.
ReplyDeleteYour ferry ride reminds me of the times we would take our children when they were all young on a trip to the beach in Galveston TX. They loved riding the ferry. I , like you, will be so glad to see the end of the virus and hopeful that businesses can start get back to business. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI really do love taking a trip with you when you go out and about.
ReplyDeleteIt certainly did look a bit gloomy there in the beginning! Glad you could get out for a bit. I hope there aren't any shortages in the supermarket.
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful and your photos capture the cold and winter. I can actually feel the crisp, damp air. You live in a beautiful part of the world, I may never get to. So I savor your pictures for the glimpses into a unknown area.
ReplyDeleteA cloudy day...well it can't always be sun and blue skies! Beauty can be found in everything though, don't you think even on an overcast day. Personally I do like to stand by the sea on a rough stormy day there is something awesome in the forces of nature :-) I have enjoyed your detailed photos of the harbour too which brings back memories of visits to my Gran in Brixham,Devon. Thank goodness for the rainbow even though rather faint. I can indeed imagine how you appreciated returning to your cosy warm cottage on such a day. keep well Amanda x
ReplyDelete“hunker down in front of the stove and watch the flames flickering as we warm ourselves. Time to rest the body and soothe the soul with a few craft projects, a good book or film and good company” These sentences make me want to be there with you Lorraine, I miss an open fire.
