Looking Forward

I do thank you for your wonderful supportive comments on my last post, they were a joy to read and lifted my spirits.

I don't usually share my gifts but I decided that this one is so me that I would share the pleasure.

Drum roll please...

I was blessed with this beautiful old Singer sewing machine, be still my heart.  What a joy when I saw this on Christmas morning from our eldest daughter and her little family.  The fun I shall have...  I intend to bring my old treadle table down  from the craft room upstairs so that I can display it in the hall.  It would be nice to use it now and again as well.

I have been adding to the list of what I want to get done this year.  I have a dolls house that was given to me by my youngest daughter a couple of years ago.  It is my intention to get it done this year.  Some research has already started.  Gerard and I are going to do as a joint venture.  Sadly at the moment he is having a flare up of  RA but one he is feeling better he will gather together the supplies needed from the outbuilding so that we can make a start.

A mammoth task but one that we are both looking forward to doing.  We are finally motivated, so it is a good time to get started.

We were blessed with a couple of jigsaws at Christmas, so we have a ongoing puzzle that we are working on.  We have a jigsaw board that we leave on the table and as we pass do a few pieces here and there.  It does take a couple of weeks doing it this way but it is an added pleasure to our day.

The crochet baby blanket continues and I am doing well, making great progress.

I am finally looking forward and have started to make plans for projects and Island adventures.  All I need now is a break in the weather so that I can get started on a tour of the village for my Grandson.  I am a fair weather reporter... The vaccine programme here on the Island is going well all the care homes and NHS workers have now been vaccinated which is wonderful.  The next phase starts on Monday, the over 80s.  This will make such a difference to so many peoples lives.

Hope all is well with you.  Has the vaccine reached your area yet?

See you soon.

  2. What a wonderful gift - just beautiful!
And what an incredible project - I love doll houses! I hope that you will give us some peeks along the way.
The problem with the vaccine in Canada is that there isn't enough - my province will run out of doses this weekend. The Federal Govt. takes care of getting it and then distributes it to the provinces and territories - but we are reliant on overseas manufacturers as we no longer have our own drug production facilities. I don't expect to get mine any time before May unless imports increase a lot! I will be there as soon as I get my notification!
Good luck with the tour for your grandson this week.

  4. Hi Lorraine! Now this post sounds so much more like YOU! You must be feeling more hopeful and happy. Although I understand perfectly the feelings in your last post.
Your sewing machine is beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. What a perfect gift for you. I'm so happy for you. I'm so looking forward to having a crafting area again. I love living in the RV, but there are things that I miss. Having my craft supplies at the ready is one of them.
The doll house project is so exciting too. Just think of the hours of fun ahead of you in decorating it and working on it with Gerard. I certainly hope his RA is doing better very soon.
Our weather has been dreary, rainy and cloudy for a few weeks now. That's okay though. I would rather have rain than snow. It's more like being in a Seattle winter.
Take care my dear friend. I'm thinking of you often. Some of our healthcare workers have been getting the vaccine but it's very slow.
Well, I better start the morning my dear friend.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  5. Two beautiful gifts, your girls know you well.

Ah, if only I still lived on the island I would battle the elements on your behalf. Instead, I hope that you have a beautiful, calm, sunshiney day to make your tour.

  6. What a beautiful sewing machine! Your daughter knows you well. It's good that things are looking up for you.
Margie mentioned the issues with vaccines in Canada. They hope to have everyone (that wants it) vaccinated by September. For now, in our province, it's health care workers and residents of long term care that are getting it. Next will be people over 70.
Enjoy your projects- the baby blanket is looking lovely, and what fun to do the doll house together. I hope Gerard soon feels better.

  7. Your dolls house project looks fun. I love your sewing machine. My mum used to have an old singer treadle machine and I enjoyed using it. Two local friends are having their vaccines this weekend. One is 80 and the other is in 70's but has a lot of health issues. Be a while before I get mine.

  9. I had several of these at one time - not just Singers, but a couple of different, more collectable models, but Keith persuaded me to part with them and I just have my electric sewing machine now. It will look lovely on display and have the bonus of still being in working order too!

What a lovely project you both have with the doll's house. I look forward to seeing the progress with it. There used to be the most amazing little shop in Bath, which sold dolls houses and everything to put in them - imagine tiny moulded jellies and joints of meat, fruit, the most wonderful little figures, paintings etc.

It sounds like the island is very organized with the vaccines. My husband is 80 so should get his soon but with being in the middle of moving, we're a bit worried he may get missed out due to moving from one surgery to a new one, with his notes "in limbo" for a couple of weeks.

  10. Oh my, what an amazing gift. Is it a hand sewing machine? Love the doll's house, nevr had one even as a child. Always wanted one even as an old lady lol. But I have enough things to do without adding more to it. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

  11. My grandma had a Singer sewing machine ! and I have finally displayed my handmade dollhouse (without house) but all the little handmade furniture ! It dates from 1948 ! A carpenter has made it for me against 5 pullovers knitted by my mother for his children, because there was no German money yet. I'll give it to a museum as I only have boys in the family !

  12. That looks so much like my mother's old Singer. Wonderful to see the old machines still treasured and protected. So glad I found your blog and looking forward to seeing the progression of the dollhouse.

  14. The sewing machine is the perfect gift for you! I didn't know it was possible to find out when a certain machine was made. I have my mom's old Singer treadle and will see if I can find a number on it.
I hope you will post updates as you work on your dollhouse. My eldest daughter made mine from a kit but she changed a lot as she worked on it. She's the one with the talent in this family.
Last but not least...I hope Gerard is feeling better day by day.

  23. What a wonderful gift, and you have so many fabulous projects on the go, plenty to keep you busy in between reporting back to your grandson. Vaccines are being given here, I don't expect to be offered it until much later in the year, it's a mammoth task.

  25. What a lovely gift! I have a Singer Featherweight. I love it. They are so attractive and well made. I love your baby blanket. The doll house looks exciting. I had one as a child, but I think my mom was the one who was always in it, moving things around to where she liked them.
