Another Day, Another Port

There has been a great improvement in the weather so thankfully we have been able to get some more painting done on the outside of the cottage.  This is a job that seems to be never ending but the end is nigh hopefully.  We are hoping that another good day will see us finished.  The washing has been hanging out today and has been doing hope de hoop around the line.  That is the beauty of this Island, the wind certainly dries your washing in double quick time.   Crafting has been taking up much of my time but I am now back into a routine of doing a project on the cottage as well.  We are working on the fireplace at the moment in readiness for the cooler evenings.  The stove has been serviced and swept so once the tiling is complete we will be good to go.  Just a little grouting left to do.  We did have a little bit of a saga with the tile cutter which broke almost immediately on using it but they were amazing at the shop we bought it from and exchanged it without question.  The only inconvenience was that we had to drive into Stornoway.  Another day, another Port/harbour.

There is such a variety of vessels, it is a joy to have a stroll around and dream.  Where would you go on a luxury yacht?  I am not sure I would want to go far but it would be nice to enjoy the experience and do a tour around these wonderful chain of Islands.  There is also a lot of fishing vessels, so it was a delight to see the fisherman overlooking the water.

The dry weather has brought out a lot of visitors, we have been inundated with rabbits...

...thankfully Mickey is not bothered about them and is happy chasing his toy.

He waits patiently for you to throw it for him, until he wears himself out and is ready for a nap.

We have bought a couple of pews from our local church in readiness for when the outbuilding is converted.  We are hoping that work will start on it soon.

They will make an amazing addition and preserve some of the local history of the village too, so we are thrilled.

On the crafting front, I have crocheted some squares to make a blanket.  They need to be put together, the ends sewn in and a border done.  So still a way to go.

The light is not very good so it is not showing the true colours.  What are you working on?

See you soon.

  2. I love the color choice on the granny squares. I hope to have a handiwork update post in the future. I'm still canning and freezing stuff this week yet. I hope to have time to do handiwork in the evenings.

  3. Wow, it's all so beautiful, where to begin?

Crochet is an unknown world to me so the blanket is a thing of wonder! Pews - amazing, Mickey is probably my favourite online pupper, and I too would quite fancy an island hopping yacht trip.

What am I working on? Oh I'm just making a quilt, it must have been someone else who said 'never again'.

  4. Love your squares. Wondering if you will show the steps you take to put them together when you do so? I once made a huge amount of squares, but got stuck with how to connect them since I'm self taught (that means I learned from an idiot right?) and ended up donating them after 2 years of procrastinating. Would so appreciate seeing how a knowledgeable person does it!

  7. Love your squares. I'm also working on a crochet blanket right now. It definitely needs to grow a bit more. Mickey looks happy to be chasing his hamburger! He is just so cute and sweet looking.
I always enjoy seeing pictures of your beautiful island home.

  8. Glad you are having some better weather. We could do with some dryer weather down here! Saying that, it did stay dry today, but didn't warm up enough for my washing to actually dry on the line, it has come in damp.

Lovely views of the yachts in the harbour.

Beautiful crochet, that is going to be a lovely blanket.

  9. I enjoyed the photos of the sea and the boats.. I adore boats and do hope you can get on a charter tour boat to pootle around the islands and see them from the water. Your dog is so cute! I can't wait to see your barn all cozied up and decorated. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  13. I love your blue and green squares that are going to be a scarf, and your current blanket. Your Christmas crafts are lovely. If we had rabbits in a neighbouring field my dogs would drive themselves crazy trying to get to them! Lovely photos of the fishing boats. The pews were a good find, I’m sure they will look great. I agree with Henny Penny about Mickey, he does always look so pretty, I would love to give him a big hug. At the moment I’m working on my fourth quilt, small lap top and cot quilts, they are very basic and pretty, I’m getting hooked and would like to do a larger one soon.

  14. I'm not sure I'd go anywhere on a yacht! I get sea sick on a ferry!
How quickly Summer moves into Autumn. Definitely time to think of cozy things.

  17. It's interesting to compare your port to ours, as you commented on my blog. I think yours has many more working vessels rather than pleasure ones. The clear skies and smooth water are so pretty. Enjoy them while they last, for I expect winter weather will be rather stormy.

  19. How lovely to have those pews, as you say, you're preserving a bit of history there. Glad the weather has perked up a bit for you but I bet you'll need a crochet blanket once winter arrives, those squares are so pretty and they'll make a beautiful blanket. Mickey is such a cutie, he sits so nicely waiting for his toy to be thrown.

  20. What a pretty little port! At least the scenery was nice even if the tile cutter delay was annoying. Mickey sure is cute, sitting there with his toy. Your crochet is really pretty and the church pews are really special. We have had lots of rabbits this year, too. xx Karen

  23. Your visit to Stornoway to exchange the broken tile cutter gave you another photo opportunity. The boats and tackle are fascinating. Thank you for sharing. The pews are beautiful and I look forward to seeing what you do with them as I know some folk use them alongside a long table and are just right for family gatherings. Glad you're able to do both crafting and makeover work around the house at the moment. Mickey looks happy running around in that lovely space around your home.

  24. fodo would kill those rabbits for you, he is their number one enemy. (not that I like that about him, it's a brutal existence for rabbits here and they have since relocated). Lovely photos, I like the statue in the raincoat!
