Five on Friday

It has been a week of trial and tribulation, a lot achieved not least we have signed the contracts for selling the house but no date as yet for the exchange of contracts and moving.  Alas there has also been a lot of jobs delayed due to the weather.  Sadly we have woken to a damp and misty morning so I don't see any progress been achieved today.  I am talking outside buildings and the mammoth task of sorting them out.  We are mindful of the damp and the damage it can do to Gerard's health particularly when there is so much to sort through but eventually I think we are just going to have to grim and bear it.

This is the view from a front window grey and misty and yet it looks quite pretty, the walks along the dyke will certainly be missed.

Two

We have amassed an enormous collection of books over the years and have had a big sort out this week, with a view to donating them to the local charity shop.  Sadly when we arrived with all our donations they wouldn't accept the books.  Apparently they have been inundated with books since Christmas and were not taking anymore.  It was the same story at a couple of others we tried.  Sadly they will now have to go to the tip for landfill which is a little disappointing.

Three

I can proudly report that the craft room is all packed up ready to go, I have a crochet project that I am working on and Honeys quilt which I making a little progress on.  Slow but steady, hand stitching a couple of squares a day.

I am hoping to have this finished by next Friday as I am meeting Amie and Honey at Springfield's near Spalding for a little shopping excursion and lunch.  I need to replace some underwear before moving.

Four

I came across a whole host of certificates and school reports, a lifetime of education, sporting and musical achievements.  What a joy to look back and read them, we were certainly proud parents both then and now.  We intend to give the girls a box each so they have them to share with their own children.

Even programmes from each of the productions they were in, lots of wonderful memories to treasure.

Five

Finally I have been having long relaxing baths this week, soaking the aches and pains of the days toil away.  Luxuriating in bubbles and candlelight, such a wonderful way to end the day.

I am once again joining Amy over at Love Made My Home for the Friday link up.  How are you filling your days?

See you soon.

  1. It has been such grey and dismal weather hasn't it? I hope when better weather arives you will manage to get all the outdoor sorting done. Used to live in Spalding so know springfields well, both as a tulip and spring flower garden and as it is now as a retail outlet:)

  2. It sounds like a little sunshine would do a lot of good there. That is so sad about the books. We too are looking to do something with ours before too long. And how the memories touch your heart when you go through things from the past.

  3. The weather makes it almost impossible to get anything done outside. I hope the sun shines soon. I have a place that will pay for books -- not much, but a little is better than nothing. Many of the books go to the library for their sale -- I'll not think about what happens to the books that aren't bought! Lots of memories to go through as you prepare for your move. Happy Friday!

  5. It is rainy and gloomy here also. Maybe try giving the books to Goodwill. I love your quilt. I 've made a few over the years and have always hand-quilted :)

    Thanks for stopping by!

  6. Seems a tragedy that the books have to go to landfill. Maybe a local old people's home might be interested?

  7. Moving is difficult and stressful without throwing bad weather into the mix. That's a shame about the books.

    Have a cozy weekend !

  9. Hope things work out with the house soon. So sad about all those books. It's sad there isn't somewhere that can use them. We're lucky here that our library has a bookshop in it and they accept donations. They sell the newer, better books in the shop and every once in a while they have a huge sale where they sell books by the bag full. Money raised helps programs at the library. The bookshop is a great place to get a bargain too!

  10. Ah, mys sister went to Skegness Grammar. Well done on the swiftness of your house sale paperwork, don;t want to think about how long it took for us to get sorted. Have you found any properties on Lewis that you like yet? Very excited for your move.

  11. Surprisingly the sun did come out to burn away the fog and it's been quite warm here.
What a shame about the books. Do you know anyone who does car boot sales that would take them off your hands?
Lots of lovely memories there for your children to share with their children-x-

  12. Things seem to move well for you on packing process. Maybe retirement homes would accept your books. Sad to have them go to dump. Glad you're giving your children their school items. I'm sure the grandchildren will enjoy seeing them later. Happy weekend!!

  13. Our weather looks very similar today to yours. I gasped out loud when you said the books would have to go to the dump. I adore books and that just makes me so very sad. Would you be able to donate them to the library or a senior home? Surely someone would want those books. I, too, have boxes of our children's school awards. I just finished going through most of them and giving them to each individual child. We're looking to downsize in the next few years too and will be facing many of the decisions you're making right now. Wishing you good health as you continue this journey.
    Blessings, Betsy

  14. Great fog photos. Very sad for the books. To clean out a home from all things is a hard work and sometimes a surprise too, to find forgotten pieces...
A relaxing bad is often helpful, I will take one today too.
    Have a cozy quiet weekend

  16. We have had bright but frosty days this week so I wish I could send you a little sunshine to help with the outdoor jobs. Warm, bubbly baths at the end of the day sound like the perfect cure after all your hard work.

  17. Fog and mist make for lovely photos but that's about all they're good for. I hope you get some sunshine very soon. We've just survived days of heavy rain but today the sun is shining and I'm so thankful.
Good luck in your continuing job of packing.

  18. How sad about the books. Do many people pass your gate? Could you offer them for free? I love Springfields, I'm planning a visit in February.

  19. You certainly deserve those relaxing baths as it is a strenuous effort to sift through possessions.
    Enjoy a relaxing weekend!

  20. Gosh.. sorry about the books.. can't you give them to a church or somewhere that houses homeless people or something? I hate the idea of them going in the garbage. I can't imagine all you're going to have to do to accomplish this move. What a major undertaking! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  21. You are a rockstar!
    Packing and sorting...
But the moments you enjoyed sorting through the memories must have been heartwarming.
I am sorry about the books.
I worry that someday our great grandchildren may not even know the feeling of holding a book in their hands...
    Anyway, enjoy your weekend.
And continue to care or yourself. : )

  22. You sure have suffered of grey and damp weather - so some hot baths are needed! It is very difficult to get rid of books here too, no one seems to want them...

  23. The fog is very mysterious, but the mystery gets old after awhile. I hope the sunshine returns before you get to sorting out the sheds. That's too bad about the books. Enjoy your hot baths at the end of your hardworking days.

  24. Sorry to read books weren't accepted at the shops. I was going to tackle mine too, but now I'm moving on to something else as I would just keep them rather than throw them out. Looking forward to seeing your finished quilt.

  28. I just read through your last five posts! So many things we could chat about! My friend and I have been just talking about getting rid of stuff. We used to go to garage sales and second hand shops all the time, now we have too much and want to get rid of it. It's a lot easier to accumulate than it is to get rid of! She is trying to decide what to do with her three son's school memories too. Someone suggested the picture idea, but it isn't quite the same. I've gone beyond getting rid of the stuff that was gifts, unless it's an heirloom type gift. But the craft room is another story! And I know exactly what you mean about books. We have a Master Gardener Association and most of them still enjoy books. I might see if they want some of my gardening books. And nursing homes and assisted living facilities like books and puzzles. Ok I need to stop now! This 'comment' is turning into a book! Good luck with all of the decision making and keep us posted on your progress.

  29. We owned a new/used bookshop in upstate NY for five years, and when we sold it and moved, I felt like we moved half of the books from the East to the West Coast! Nearly 20 years later I am still trying to part with more books and not acquire too many more :) I am still cheering on your packing efforts and so glad you are taking time to soak the aches away and guard your health! xx
