The Arrival of Summer...

We had such a beautiful red sky last night and so as the old saying goes "Red sky at night, Shepherds delight!" we decided to do a car boot sale this morning.

After all the sorting and sifting throughout the house, loft, sheds and workshops we certainly had a lot to get rid of.  There wasn't a lot of sellers but I suppose that made it easier to sell there wasn't a lot of competition.  We certainly had a nice morning, chatting and laughing and best of all making money out of things we no longer wanted.  We still have enough to do another one, so maybe next week if the weather holds.  I intend to catch up with everyone and then put my feet up with a cuppa and my Homemaker magazine that has just arrived, a subscription gift from our daughter.  We call it the gift that keeps on giving.  Then its back to the grindstone as I need to make soup for Dad and alter some pyjamas for him that he had for Fathers day.  No rest for the wicked!!!!

I have been on a mission with the sewing machine, making a few bits and pieces.  Bibs always go down well and I have altered a pattern I use to give it a little more length, ready for weaning.  So far I have three made but there are another 5 cut out ready to go.

I actually made myself something, which is a rarity.  I made myself  a shopper, perfect for a trip to town as carrier bags are no longer given as standard practise we now have to pay for bags here in the UK.

I loved the strawberries on the fabric, perfect for the season and it certainly made me smile.  I thought I would look for some fabric in my stash ready to make another one for the Autumn.

I have made a cushion for Lily/Daisy's playroom, they love all of the Disney Princess's since their trip to Disneyworld.

We have also made them a pin board so that we can laminate some photos of them with the Disney Princess's, the perfect accessory.

Finally I pickled some beetroot, we have had such an abundance of beetroot it would otherwise have been wasted.

The kettle is calling so I am off for a nice afternoon tea, hopefully there are scones in the tin.  Finally we are seeing a little bit of Summer which includes the sun.  How are you spending these sunny days?

See you soon.

  4. It was a beautiful morning here so I got lots of washing done, hung it on the line and then there's been showers this afternoon so it's all come in again, very annoying. What a lot of things you've got done, I often wonder if the midweek car boot sales are well attended, they're something I associate with a weekend. I'm sure the girls will be happy with their princess cushion and a lovely idea making the pin board too. I love beetroot, I have it roasted, delicious.

  10. Nice to have a profitable day after a clean-out. I see your spinning wheel in one of your photos and it looks just like mine. Is it an Ashford? Mine has many miles on it as I have had it for over 30 years and we know each other very well.

  12. Good for you having such a good sale. It's always nice to make some money for things you don't want anymore anyway. I love all of your sewing projects. My little granddaughter would love that cushion too and the pin board is wonderful. You are such a talented seamstress. I could use lots of those market bags for the same reason. About half of our stores don't have bags any longer.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  13. Contrary to the forecast, we got up to rain, although it brightened up later. It amazes me to see people in supermarkets paying to get carrier bags, instead of making/buying re-usable ones!

  19. It's a bit gray and windy here today, but not chilly. The princess pillow is just perfect for Disney-mad little girls. I love pickled beets and hope to make more this summer when they are ready in the garden.
Happy Wednesday (although it's likely almost Thursday in your world).

  21. My mom used to make bags from double quilted fabric and some from heavier fabric. My daughter has one that was my mom's as I have a few of my own. I get almost teary eyed when I see. Sunset photos are lovely. It's been warm the last couple days, more humid today here in Oregon. A bit of rain showers coming, warm Sat which is nice for an outdoor wedding I'm attending and taking my friends photos. Excited!! Yes a cuppa tea sounds nice and I'll have some soon. Need to see if there's any cookies in the jar. None there this a.m. unless daughter got some out!! Glad your boot sale went well. Take care!!!

  22. So glad you are getting some summer sunshine! Before an unexpected guest from NY state arrived I had time to take our porch chairs out to scrub and hose them down in the sunshine here, but we are supposed to get rain showers tomorrow. Cheers for all your sewing projects and car boot profit! xx

  27. Hi Lorraine,

Looks great! So nice to see your latest makes. Those bibs are brilliant! Also love your shopper! I made quite a few of these a couple of years back when I got more into sewing. I use one as a project bag for my crochet to take with me everywhere. Very useful!

    Have a nice weekend,

  32. That shopping bag you made is so cute. I think making different ones for the seasons would be a great idea1 Around here some stores have begun to charge .05 for a plastic bag and I try to always have one of my fabric bags along with me.
