Fabric Inspiration

Fathers Day was a joy, spending quality time with my dear Dad means a lot I am blessed that we were able to enjoy a afternoon tea together.  My sweet husband was overloaded with cards, pictures from the Grandchildren and gifts he was certainly spoilt.

Last week I had a massive clear out of the craft room and came across a whole box full of Christmas fabric.   I was inspired as soon as I saw it and immediately set to making some mug rugs that Sheila who blogs at Life's Too Short To Iron Tea Towels had made and linked to a wonderful tutorial on YouTube.

A simple but effective make using 6 5" squares.

Tied with some natural twine in a set of four, with a added tag left over from last year it now makes an attractive gift.

I stitched some fabric on plain tea towels to line a couple of small hampers.

Using the snowman fabric and some oddments of fleece, bibs have been made for the holiday season.

An apron has been made using a vintage pattern ready for one of Granny's little helpers.  Red velvet ribbon was using for the binding which gives it quite a luxurious feel.

Quite amazing how you can be inspired by seeing fabric.  Whilst it may seem a little early for some making Christmas gifts in June I actually do not like to put myself under pressure, so work all year round gift making for all occasions.

Go on admit it, you have started looking for inspiration for Christmas...

See you soon.

  2. Those mug rugs are brilliant and I like all your other makes too. I think it's such a good idea getting a head start on your Christmas makes, it's no fun at all when you're rushing around at the last minute trying to get everything done.

  22. Mug rugs sound nice. It would be a nice gift for all year round even! Yes, I was thinking about Christmas cards just the other day when I was taking photos of family at our fathers' day gathering at our son's home. Would definitely need a grandbaby update as baby will be nearly 6 mo in Dec. I've been thinking of gifts and do get some in advance. I actually pulled from my drawer a gift for an impromptu grad party for a neighbor girl the other week. She loved it! I like buying in advance. I'm doing that this year due to so many weddings coming up. Sigh! Happy week, my friend!

  29. You have accomplished a lot with that fabric! I love the idea of the mug rugs and may just be making some of those up myself as gifts. I do like all of the projects though. I try to start early on Christmas myself although as our grandchildren get old, they seem to prefer gift cards over actual gifts. I feel very sad about that.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  31. Wow. You are always doing so much stuff, I'm always amazed at what you accomplish! Such a great feeling to be putting away things for Christmas already, and such nice gifts!! I wonder if you made those mug rugs a little bigger if they could be used as potholders? I'll have to check out the video. Blessings to you, xo Deborah

  32. You are a smart cookie to get a jumpstart when inspiration strikes. Those gifts are all wonderful. I use the mug rug pattern for pot holders all the time and it is a great way to use up some of those larger scraps. Plus, one can stick her pinkies in there for a better hold.
