Twilight of the Summer

We had a break in the weather yesterday, it stopped raining in fact it was quite a nice day.  A relief,as the logs we ordered were delivered and left at the front of the house.  I had to use the wheel barrow and wheel them around to the back and stack them in the log stores.

It was hard work but at least we are now prepared for the cooler months ahead.  Another thing done off the Autumn list.

Here's hoping that they won't need chopping down any further, some of them did look a little big for the stove.  I left them to one side...my son in law will be visiting soon.

The hedgerow at the bottom of the garden is full of blackberries.  I have already taken several pounds  of fruit and put them in the freezer for Autumnal puddings.  There was still a lot of fruit that needed picking so off I went and collected a load more to make jam.

The glass jars were put into water and boiled to sterilize them and then the process of jam making began.

Four jars of blackberry jam ready for consumption when a taste of summer is needed.

I also gathered in some of the ripening tomatoes and the beans.  The freezer is fit to burst with the amount of  produce I have been squirreling away.

I just need this break in the weather to continue for awhile so that I can get on top of the beds and mow the lawn but a cup of tea and a slice of cake is needed right now.  Tomorrow is another day... Hopefully, there will be a little more sunshine to come in this the twilight of the Summer.

See you soon.

  3. It's always a good feeling to get the wood stacked and ready to use when the cool weather hits. We used to live in a home that was heated strictly with wood, so our stacks were huge! The blackberry jam looks delicious!

  5. Looks like you are busy preparing for the cooler days and there's plenty to be done. I think picking fruits must be very interesting and rewarding for taking good care of your garden.

  10. I am looking at your stacked wood and thinking you have got to be kidding. It has been in the 90's here today and even with central air, I am sweating with the laptop on my lap. We haven't even closed the pool yet. My mouth is watering over that blackberry jam. It has been a long time since I made any jam.

  13. Yum - love blackberry jam. We are just about at the end of our dry wood, luckily it is starting to warm up a little now, though we have just got new logs to split and dry over summer for next winter,

  14. As much as I love blackberry jam I much prefer jelly. There seems to be an abundance of blackberries just over the garden fence I must get some picked. I've always found October to have a fair few sunny days I leave my garden catching up till then xx

  18. We've had so little rain here in New York this summer. I read the other day that they are starting to ask for voluntary water restriction measures. I'm sure this will turn to mandatory water restrictions soon if we don't start getting some rain. Usually we get some rain at the end of a humid day but it hasn't even been doing that. I'm wondering if Mother Nature is going to be making up for it this winter with snow. : ) xoxo
