Five on Friday

I am once again joining in The Five on Friday meme over with Amy at Love Made My Home.  Pop over and join in the fun.

I have had a terrible week, feeling a little sorry for myself and sat in the chair in front of a blazing stove.  A flu type bug has hit leaving both my husband and I feeling very low.  We are now on the mend but very little has been done.  I have however put away the summer hats and sorted through the winter ones ready for the cooler weather and the occasions I may want a hat for.

First up is a very glamorous interpretation of the Fantasia Sorcerers hat, used in the Fantasmic show at Hollywood Studios Walt Disney World.

It was designed and made by my Grandaughters Lily and Daisy for our forthcoming trip to Disney in October.

My second choice of hat, now on display on the drawers in the hall is a rather vibrant felt hat that I shall be wearing for the Remembrance Day Service.

My husband is honourable secretary of the Army Air Corps Veterans Association, so we will take part in the service this year at our Headquarters in Middle Wallop.  A very fitting hat for the occasion.

My third choice is a another felt hat that I wear almost daily due to its colour.

Its neutral colour blends with the majority of my outerwear so is an easy put on.

Number four is another old favourite that I tend to wear more for outings as it has a rather fancy band and makes it feel a little more dressy.

It certainly needs a good brush, that is the problem with felt attire it does attract the dust.

Finally, my last choice of hat is the humble bobble hat of which I have several.  This one is a favourite because of the fit.

Washed and better washed and looking slightly sorry for itself the hat that has seen many winters with me and probably has lots of stories to tell about snowball fights and sled rides.  It is a great dog walking hat too and really does needs to be replaced, maybe next year...

Have you got a favourite hat?

See you soon.

  3. I'm sorry to hear you've both been ill I'm glad you can see the road to recovery now. I adore hats, I favour cloche ones, Mike dislikes them but I don't care. I especially like the hat you wear for Remembrance day Service. My eldest son used to read out the list of local soldiers who died at our church & our then vicar used to play the Last Post on her trumpet. Thank you for your comment on my post, it made me all tingly & happy. Take care xx

    1. I keep trying with little success. I would like to go on a course but have not had much success finding someone to teach me locally and am not in a position to travel too far.

  16. Love your hats! I think I need a few more than I have. Generally I wear a wide brim hat in the summer to shade my face and a crocheted hat in the winter to keep my ears warm.

  18. Oh, so sorry to hear you are not feeling well. The flu bug is bad news. After having it three years ago, I started to get a flu shot each year. Your hats are so lovely. Are you going to Florida Disney or California? Would love to meet you if it's California. Hope you get well soon. Pat xx

  19. So sorry for your flu misery! I enjoyed viewing your array of hats with their designated assignments, and I realize viewing them that I have but one hat...and that is a broad-brimmed canvas hat I purchased to wear camping this summer! How could this be :) Wishing you a happy healthier weekend! xx

  21. Wow, you have lots of hats! I actually don't wear a hat during warm weather unless I'm sailing and I use a hat to keep my face from burning. But in cold weather I wear my crocheted and knitted hats for warmth. And then I have my one BIG "Downton Abbey" style hats for when I need to dress in vintage style. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  25. I never, ever wear a hat unless it is a baseball cap for shading off the sun at the beach.

YOUR hats are beautiful! I love the cream color hat!

  26. Hope you're feeling better! I LOVED all of your hats but that vibrant one with the red is so gorgeous! I wish folks wore hats like that here in the States. ::sigh:: Just beautiful.
So jealous of your upcoming Disney trip! I can't wait to go back someday.

  29. Sorry to hear you have been unwell, I have been attacked by cold bugs twice this week from two of my friends so I wouldn't be surprised if I didn't catch one too. I do wish that I was a hat person, I very impressed with your's I do look hideous in a hat although I will wear a beanie in the dark haha have a great weekend. :) xx

  30. I do hope you and your husband will feel well again soon. I love all your hats but couldn't wear them as I look dreadful in hats and can't bear things on my head I'm even loath to put a hood over my head in bad weather. I have taken to wearing a sun hat but only when I really have to as I get quite headachey if I don't:)

  31. Your hats are wonderful. Hope you are both feeling better.
    Hugs to you,

  32. Oh, I hope that you and your husband are feeling better now, mama. I love your hats. I wear baker boy and beany hats mainly and they are quite practical for keeping long hair out of your face when you live somewhere as windy as Buxton!! xx

  33. Sorry to hear aboout the flu. Hope you're well now. The hats looks lovely! My fav is the blue one with lovely satin bow around. Classy!!

  34. My favorite hat is a purple stocking cap with two white strips on it, knitted by a friend of mine. So comfy and still wear it. I have a couple baseball style caps I like as well, one is brown with John Deere written in pink and there's pink flowers and a bit of bling. Also my AF hat I bought awhile back. I like your tan hat you wear alot. It goes with just about any colour you wear! Glad you are better. I was not feeling well today so missed an outing which made me sad! Take care! Happy weekend!

  35. I love the cream hat that would suit so many different outfits. I don't tend to wear a hat unless it is really cold, but I am looking for a nice colourful beanie for my walks when the weather turns (my ears always suffer!). I do hope your flu does a disappearing act very soon. Take care xx

  36. Ooooo that red hat is gorgeous and the blue one is very pretty too! I must say I quite like my bobble hats, nice and bright and cheery :)

  37. That's quite a collection! I have a very big head and can never find any that fit! If I could choose, I'd be stealing the red and black one of yours. So elegant, yet fun and funky at the same time. You'll be the belle of the Remembrance Day service.

  38. I hope you are feeling better and have your energy back by now. You have a nice hat collection. In the US women don't wear dressy hats, just knit hats for warmth when necessary, and I kind of miss the days when we did. I always admire the Queen's hat and love to see what she is wearing. Maybe that's why we don't wear them -- we don't have a queen to set an example!
