The priority this week was to clear the beds that had become choked with weed, after the invasion on the cabbage. That has now been done along with sorting out the hanging baskets and pots that hold annuals.
My second task was to harvest the herb garden, preparing the pots for overwintering and storing the herbs.
There was a wonderful bounty of Rosemary, that is now hanging on the back door, drying. The wonderful aroma is hard to beat.
Number three brings me to a wonderful couple of hours baking, the simple pleasures in life.
Staying in the kitchen number four brings me to the kitchen cupboards they have all been emptied and cleaned. I now have a clear idea of what is in the store cupboard. Cereal containers have now replaced the boxes and a whole collection of plastic containers has been brought to stop all the spills in the cupboard. I got some Jane Asher containers from Poundland which are both cost effective and useful. I am ashamed to say there were several tins that were out of date that I have now thrown away, such a waste. Rotation certainly seems to be an issue or maybe its over buying in the first place. I avoid the deals that lure me in these days and stick to the shopping list it does save on the wastage.
Finally, number five is the change of seasons and whilst the past couple of days have brought a warmth that the summer really didn't give. Autumn is here and with it the changing colours of the foliage and the dormant hedgerows. Slowly the Autumn décor is being introduced, a hint of what it to come...
I am joining Amy over at Love Made My Home for the weekly exchange of Five on Friday, why not pop over and enjoy the fun. I will catch up with everyone later, when I have finished making beds up and do another baking session in preparation for Amie and her little family who are visiting for the weekend.
See you soon.
What great Five on Friday!, Love the baking and the Autumn wreaths!x
ReplyDeleteLovely and yummy post !
ReplyDeleteHave a relax weekend !
Anna
You've had a lovely week, one I would have enjoyed very much, too. x
ReplyDeleteWhat a busy week you have had. You get a lot accomplished! Your baking looks simply delicious!
ReplyDeleteYou are spurring me on to get back out in the garden and sort her out. although I still have lots of colour left, thankfully. I have an abundance of rosemary in the garden and use it fresh for cooking all year round. I have never however thought to dry it. Love the bag with holes in. Do you dry it that way as the rosemary spindles fall off as they dry? Intrigued
ReplyDeleteI dry the Rosemary in a very old fashioned way, there are lots of more up to date/modern ways of drying it out including using the microwave. The holes are in the bag so that the air can circulate around as they dry it drops off and is caught in the bottom of the bag it can then be transferred to a jar. Hope that helps.
DeleteI'd say a very productive week in all departments! Mouthwatering
ReplyDeleteJam tarts look scrumptious!
I enjoyed your five, what was the first thing you baked?
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I made was the quiche and popped in some potatoes to bake while the oven was on.
Deletemmmm, that quiche looks delicious if that is what is in the photo!! love that you listed homey stuff :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to dry your rosemary. Unfortunately, mine died due to lack of water so I need to replace it. Your baking looks fabulous; make me hungry too. I wish you a wonderful weekend.. Pat xx
ReplyDeleteI love your bag of dried rosemary hanging on the door! Great idea! I have a 3 ft. across "bush" of it in my front yard, and I always forget to pluck a few sprigs to bring inside...they say it's great for depression, smelling its wonderful scent. I WANT whatever dish that is in the pie crust (a quiche, perhaps)...it looks amazing! So do the tarts!
ReplyDeleteI could just squeeze in one of those jam tarts , they look delicious :-)
ReplyDeleteYou never cease to amaze me with how on top of things you are. I feel quite lazy and should get out and sort the garden but it's much more fun to just sit and sew. Forever putting things off until another day.
ReplyDeleteWow, you are very industrious! Good for you! Your baking looks wonderful.. what is the one with the tomatoes? ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy, busy, busy. I need to harvest my herbs too. Your baking looks delicious and is making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteThanks to you, I now know what to do with my rosemary :) It does have a lovely scent...have you ever tried to winter a rosemary plant inside? I was thinking of trying to do so. Hope you have a wonderful weekend with you family! xx
ReplyDeleteWe do bring a plant inside and leave it on the kitchen window sill, with a good success rate.
DeleteWhat a lovely way to record these moments! I really like the bag of rosemary hanging up next to the wreath, that seems like a perfect autumny moment to me! Thank you for joining Five On Friday! I hope that you have a great weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteOh no I didn't realise I had to do something with my herbs over winter. I will have to do some research - thank you! A great five and I love the idea of recording the achievements that would otherwise be forgotten xx
ReplyDeleteThose jam tarts look lovely, what a productive week, I have the garden on my list for this weekend xx
ReplyDeleteYou have been very busy, you go girl. The dishes you made look sumptuous.
ReplyDeleteI too am looking forward to fall.
So much productivity! The ability to document what otherwise would go undocumented in a blog is so wonderful. I am glad you will be able to look back and see what your days were filled with several years from now. Have a wonderful weekend! Aloha.
ReplyDeleteOh my you have been busy! Your baking looks delish! It's always great to be able to look back on your week and see how much you have accomplished. Loved this 5 on Friday post :)
ReplyDeleteI bet your house smelled delicious. Can I come over for leftovers? Hugs to you,
ReplyDeleteMeredith
A Gal after my own heart - baking and getting into the Fall spirit! Your photos made me drool - everything looks so yummy!!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend. xoxo
Your pastry and pies look so delicious! I'll have one of the jam tarts with my tea, please, ma'am! I made my own wiener wraps tonight for dinner and they were delicious. I only made the wrap part. Easy from my own quik mix, like Bisquick. Husband said he liked it better than bread and wieners. Not too hard. Made all 8 so now there's leftovers for the work week! I should have taken a photo of it but didn't. I was feeling creative. Fruit salad too. I threw a couple tins and a glass jar away tonight due to expire date! I know I'm bad about it too. Sigh!
ReplyDeleteWe had some heat these past couple days but a cooling trend and rain coming! Have a good weekend!
Everything looks so delicious!! I love this time of the year when the weather starts to change. I get this feeling of having to tie up loose ends for the impending nesting season. It looks like you have that well under control!! Happy Sunday to you!! xoxo

Were those jam tarts? Delish and one of my favourites! My annual pots are looking a little worse for wear now too. I guess I should empty and plant some autumn mums to add some colour back into the yard. You're post has inspired me to get out and get to work. ( after I read a few more blog posts.....)
ReplyDeleteAs you start preparing your pots and garden for winter, I am starting to get mine ready for summer planting in a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteLovely to record your busy moments what a lot you have achieved in a week - I must get out into the garden now we are home from holidays and you've reminded me that kitchen cupboards need exploring too:)
ReplyDeleteLove your autumn wreath, very fitting :) but this post has made me super hungry, too many scrummy things to look at!
