I stayed in bed and slept in between bouts of coughing and trips to the toilet.
I tried to read a book but to no avail, the book was too heavy to hold and I was uncomfortable.
I tried to watch a film but the lights made my eyes hurt.
Food was no real comfort, my throat was too sore to swallow.
All in all I felt pretty miserable. Monday dawned, my 60th Birthday. I would be a liar if I didn't admit to been a little disappointed and thinking about what might have been. We had so many plans...
But as the day progressed, I was rewarded a little at a time. I have never seen so many cards in all their formats and indeed glory. From the humble picture drawn by one of the Grandchildren to the most elaborate e-card and everything in between.
I have been inundated with telephone calls and the wonders of technology linking me to family.
Friends and neighbours have called in, each bringing joy.
Indeed, your own comments and messages were uplifting.
In the grand scheme of things I have nothing to complain about. I am feeling much better, had a wonderful Birthday and a husband to share it all with. What more do I possibly need?
See you soon.
Belated Happy Birthday wishes, so glad that your day turned out not too bad after all, in fact it sounds like it ended up rather special. It is always good to look at the positive, not always easy when you have a nasty virus or feel rough.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you were feeling rough on your special day. What a time to be ill :( I hope you are now feeling so much better and can enjoy a special treat or two. 60 is a wonderful age to be...enjoy it! Happy Birthday MM xx
ReplyDeleteOh dear sounds like a horrid virus no wonder you felt so ill. All those lovely cards and good wishes would have made you feel much brighter. I hope you feel a lot better soon, belated Happy Birthday wishes:)
ReplyDeleteIsn't modern technology wonderful that you were able to hear from your family and your neighbours so kind.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry you were poorly for your special birthday, but hopefully in time you will be able to mark the occasion in a more pleasant fashion.
A belated Happy Birthday to you. X
Happy belated birthday. I'm sorry to hear that you were feeling under the weather and with everything else that has happened just lately it wasn't the birthday you had planned, but it does sound as though it was an enjoyable day nonetheless. I'm sure there'll be even more celebrations when you get together with your lovely family again.
ReplyDeleteAwwww...Belated Happy Birthday wishes.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry that you have been poorly. Sounds like it was really nasty and I hope you are recovering now.

ReplyDeleteLorraine, I am so sorry to hear that you've been sick. Not a fun way to spend your birthday, especially a big, important one like 60, but I'm glad that you know that you are loved and cared for by so many.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are now on the mend and can enjoy a wonderful day out to celebrate when you are completely better.
Blessings,
Betsy

ReplyDelete*H*A*P*P*Y* * *B*I*R*T*H*D*A*Y*!*!*!* my good friend! I'm so sorry you were ill but am glad you're on the mend and you have a wonderful attitude about it all. You are loved. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy Birthday! Since it's a special one, I think celebrating all year is the ticket. I hope you soon feel completely restored. Being sick on one's birthday is never fun, but it sounds like you chose a good attitude.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lorrie...a whole year of treats...or at the very least, a month. Hope you are feeling much better now though. xxx
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday ! even if it hadn't been the happiest one. You must have been very sick. But there will be other birthdays (unfortunately) With 60 you are still a young girl compared to me I am 15 years older, lol !
ReplyDeletehappy birthday and feel better soon!!!
ReplyDeleteBelated Happy Birthday wishes to you Lorraine and sorry to hear about the sickness, but know exactly how you must have felt. My husband (Pat also known as Grenville) has been "suffering" with similar symptoms the past couple of weeks on and off. he was briefly better after a previous medical office visit and then relapsed. And, he also shared the coughing and nose sniffling with me last week. So later today we are both going back to the medical office and maybe some meds will help speed his recovery (and mine). This week, a friend in England emailed me that she and her husband had the flu for nearly 6 weeks...yikes! Glad you are on the mend and that you received so many nice messages from family, neighbors and bloggers.
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday wishes and get well soon!!
ReplyDeleteIt's crappy that you spent a miserable day on your birthday. Hope you're feeling much better now and are able to have a delayed celebration. Happy Birthday.
ReplyDeleteAwww...not fun at all to be so sick. The only good thing about it is that you won’t forget this memorable birthday. Glad that you were able to look on the bright side.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Birthday to you, dear friend!
You deserve every single special message you received.
You bring such joy to all who know you!
Sorry you were sick on your special day.
But celebrate as long as you want!
Happy 60th Birthday to you! Get well soon and enjoy your birthday celebration with love ones. I struggled with cough for almost 3 weeks and still have some cough on and off!
ReplyDeleteWonderful words my dear
ReplyDeleteKisses
Sorry you didn't feel well over the weekend nor on your birthday. But you found things to be thankful for and you were given joy by others on your birthday. Glad you are feeling better! Have a better weekend this time. I'm not enjoying allergies right now. It is a bit better though. Hugs and blessings!
ReplyDeleteOh, poor you! And on your birthday! Sending you a virtual cup of hot lemon-ginger tea, a slice of chocolate cake and a big hug.

I'm so sorry you were sick on your birthday. At least my flu was gone in time for mine.
ReplyDeleteHere's hoping all the sickness at your house is behind you now and only health and happiness for the balance of the year.
Onward and upward. Things to do, places to go, things to see (and share). They can't keep a good woman down and you're a good woman.
Sending much love and big hugs.
Will this stuff ever stop going around? I am sorry to hear you were sick but you sound like you had a good birthday all in all. You made it good. I love seeing all of the beauty around you too.
